  1. I would really be interested in hearing any views of why partisan drawing of district lines is a good thing.
  2. Saw this on Maddow last night. http://maddowblog.msnbc.com/_news/2012/12/13/15876038-republicans-reap-the-fruits-of-redistricting?lite The charts show how states could overwhelmingly vote for Obama and yet have a GOP controlled legislature and a greater number of GOP congress members. I think the redistricting process that occurs every 10 years is one of the worse processes in all of politics, it is truly a shame that the party in power uses this to consolidate power and sometime subvert the will of their own state. The aforementioned Right to Work law (and its subsquent fallout and
  3. And holding America hostage by using the Debt Limit is equally ridiculous. It is more sad then anything else. The fact they are willing to hurt Americans so the rich can save a bit of money.
  4. Shocked that I think the GOP plan is ridiculous, or shocked on how ridiculous the latest GOP plan is? Assuming it is the former, let me explain. Boehner's plan offered 150 billion in less revenue (and by inverse offers 150 billion more in cuts) then he offered in 2011. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2012/12/03/boehners-latest-tax-offer-is-150-billion-less-than-he-offered-in-2011/ So in the beginning of November a majority of voting Americans choose Obama, who stated through out his campaign the way he would deal with the fiscal cliff is to raise taxes on the wealthy (
  5. Anyone want to talk Fiscal Cliff? Think a deal will actually get done? Surprised by the negotiating tactics used by both sides? It seems to me the GOP is being far more ridiculous in their "negotiating"
  6. I agree, the CBS morning show had this whole thing on Hilary and how she should run and if she ran she would beat any Republican like a rented mule. Gingrich even said as much. There are about 3 years before the primary season kicks off. A lot could change. If PBO's policies fail, or if the GOP continues their policies of obstruction that we had the last 4 years will change things quite a bit. Also the changing attitudes of American's (gay marriage, drug legalization, etc.) will play a large role in 2016. My thought is if the GOP can move away from the social issues and be a big tent
  7. Haven't seen Sparky around lately. I am pretty sure he gave up.
  8. This whole thing got me thinking, since the HOF is the only way to punish those players "pre-testing" era, would anyone be opposed to letting someone in the HOF from the current period, who has tested positive and served their suspensions? For example, Melky? Or Braun (if his suspension held)? It is a hypothetical, I know, but it is an interesting thing to ponder.
  9. I really don't see the unfairness. Melky used PED's got caught and served his suspension. If he when he is eligible for the HOF and he gets in (all together unlikely), then it would be unfair. If anything it is more unfair to Melky, because of the system that is now in place that made him serve his suspension, whereas Bonds, McGuire, et al had no such system and have not served any suspension. In all likelihood, if the current drug testing program was set up 20 years ago, one of those guys would have been caught and suspensions would have been served.
  10. careful, someone might infer that you are smug, or that you are refusing to listen to a differing opinion.
  11. I am the most dangerous man in this forum, with the largest hypothalamus in North America, serving humanity simply by simply typing a view words, destined for my own wing in the VC forum Hall of Fame, executing everything I do flawlessly with zero mistakes, writing my opinions with half my brain tied behind my back just to make it fair because I have talent on loan from . . . God. KevinG. A man. A legend. A way of life. (Paraphrased from Rush Limbaugh) Give me an fing break Tweedling. Tell me what about secession is not idiotic. Edit: I agree with BleedOrange it is a non story, but o
  12. We dealing in hypotheticals now? Absolutely no way of knowing what would happen if Romney won (but he didn't). Sure if Obama lost the supporters would be upset and there would be a small subset who would claim to move to Canada or whatever. But the secession movement? I highly doubt it would be to where it is now. It would be great if the president called their bluff (which he never would), and let the states leave the union. Cut off all federal money, aid, etc. Let develop their own currency, trade laws, etc. How long do you think these states would last? This ain't the 1860's, th
  13. The underlying racist sentiment in Romney's comments is what is truly disturbing. The same goes for Ryan's "urban" voting comments. Really it is not much different than Rush's Santa Claus comments. It is the narrative of why the GOP suffered such a huge defeat. Not that the policies of RR were out of touch, no it was cause America is a society of takers now and want stuff given to them. Until that thinking changes, the GOP will continue to fail.
  14. Andrew Bird - Break It Yourself/Hands of Glory AC Newman - Shut down the streets sun kil moon - Among the leaves
  15. Both are good, but not great shows IMO. Boardwalk Empire gets too slow at times I do not care for several of the sub plots right now, (Van Alden, the Women's Clinic, etc.) and I miss Jimmy. Homeland is starting to get to twisty for its own good. After this season I am not sure how they go forward. The show that is super awesome right now is Hunted. A BBC import that is on Cinemax.
  16. Anyone notice that it was Kid Rock that totally gave in the liberal point of view? He bought a Prius, watched a gay marriage, protested for some environmental cause? Whereas Sean Penn drank a beer and made a NASCAR sand castle. I would have liked to see Penn and Rock at a gun range. Or doing more "conservative" things. The sentiment was there but the execution was left to be desired.
  17. Here is an interesting "alternative history" electoral maps. They each take the results of the current election and apply different suffrage movements to them (i.e. one shows what it would be if only white men voted, if only men voted, etc.) http://www.buzzfeed.com/buzzfeedpolitics/what-the-2012-election-would-have-looked-like-with
  18. Msnbc had Steve Schmidt, a republican and former campaign strategist for McCain. He was on most of the night. Who did fox have from the left? And name one person from all the other networks who has given millions of dollars to either PBO or Romney. His analysis is suspect. This showed on election night. A network who has him on presenting anything is suspect. Did they ever mention he ran Crossroads GPS?
  19. The fact that a major contributor to MItt Romney (Karl Rove via his super Pac Crossroads GPS) is analyst on Fox News should really point out how bad Fox News is. Kinda puts Rove's insistance on the Ohio call in to a bit more prespective. Anyone remember when Keith Olbermann got supsended from MSNBC for contributing to three Democratic Congressmen? So Fox News isn't as bad as people say, it is worse.
  20. Fine speech by Mitt. Let's hope the GOP listens to his words and tries to work across the isle to move America to a better place. The partisanship in modern politics is ridiculous. The GOP can dislike PBO’s policies, but he is the president duly elected by the people of the United States of America, it is the responsibility of each elected official to work together and offer solutions, not just obstruct. Also Tag Romeny 2024?
  21. NBC should seriously look at their relationship with that man.
  22. Really depends on what the GOP plans to do. Are they going to continue the policies of obstruction, or are they to work with the president?
  23. Fox News declares it to Obama as well. so it must be true.
  24. MSNBC delcares Ohio to President Barack Obama. It is all over. 4 more years!
