  1. So there'll be you and at least one other guy there who's been 'long term'... Enjoy! (is it snowing yet?)
  2. I only remember Jonathan Richman for his hits in late 70's British poptasm, so went to see him more out of curiosity. The show was delayed by the rain and 15 minutes after the supposed new start time there was no sign of JR or indeed anyone at the FOH sound booth. He then wandered out with guitar case in hand and followed by trusty conga player Tommy, pulls out his guitar and goes into a long demented conversation with himself about how the rain had messed with his sound check - he was running the whole shebang from the stage himself! What followed next was a masterclass in engaging an aud
  3. I'm beginning to think they only played 'Hell Is Chrome' for me personally on the first night in Bruxelles. This is not an issue I have a problem with.
  4. Who knew that 'Aeronef' is French for 'toilets that look like the shows happened already'... I bloody well enjoyed this show though.
  5. Booh to dropping hell for Ashes. Given the heat on the floor of Paradiso, hell got its revenge though!
  6. Felt like a really fast set despite the length of it. Fnarr fnarr.
  7. That set surely itched a few scratches on my bed post. Thankfully the locals only kept us up till 2AM post show, so I can mentally prepare for 2 nights at Paradiso.
  8. 50 + shows and they finally played my favourite song. The first song. I went home after that.
  9. OH4FOXACHE!! 'Face', 'Bees' and 'Seeds' in the one set list? I'd need at least 5 beers to recover from those. Donations gratefully received.
  10. OHFORFOXACHE! They better play Hell Is Chrome next week or I will be most upset. I'll give them 5 chances...
  11. Bbop and I are going to submit our version of 'You And I' - we're just fighting about who gets to be Feist first... #Feistfirstfight
  12. "instead of his usual voice, what came out was a slowed-down Johnny Cash-style drawl for the first few lines. This delighted the audience, and then Jeff switched to doing the song in an icy Germanic Nico style for a few bars" I suspect this could be the theme for the first night of Solid Sound - Wilco do a whole set of covers of their own songs as sung by other people. It makes complete sense...
  13. Sounds like a great venue and part of town but I bet you got that special Canadiana welcome, eh?
  14. It's obviously been a challenge to see how many! exclamation! marks! you can fit into a half! tossed! off! piece of 'writing'!!!
  15. So if I apply my AIR (alcoholically induced request) algorithm to hear 'Hell Is Chrome' for the first time after drawing a blank in c.50+ Wilco shows, do you think I'm in with a chance this summer? Asking for a friend...
  16. I endorse this citation as long as someone else is paying for drinks. #beerplan
  17. To be fair, I've spent quite a bit of time with him and this is a pretty typical day...
  18. Political discourse my arse, at least in Scotland he got a real full on fight! #wimps
  19. I've been in Victoria on a Friday night and can confirm it's a party town. (And has some decent beer).
  20. YOU CAN'T LEAVE US HANGING LIKE THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. Did you get to see what kind of birthday card he got for Jeff - perhaps with laminated cats on it...?
  22. Sounds like a guid Scots night oot - if it's not Scottish it's crap!!
  23. "On a personal note, I watched this show with the slightest tinge of bittersweet feelings knowing that I will have to miss the entire upcoming run of shows in Canada..." You're not going to your 2nd favourite country (after Scotland) - with all your Canadania fetishes??? Bloody 'ell!
