  1. As I suspected... Presale now on for the 28th via Wilco World. I've got mine!
  2. Jim Carroll at 'On the Record' - (Irish Times Music blog) confirms that the 28th of August at Vicar Street is a goer - tickets on sale from Tuesday. Presumably there may be a pre sale on Wilco world?
  3. Hmmmm - we have a little thing on here called the Edinburgh Festival throughout August - I just wonder if they'll fit in a gig around these shows and the Green Man Festival. If not, I have a handy little concert hall which might come free after the 31st... C'mon guys - Scotland in August - you can't beat it!
  4. Can't see it now - not after the Spanish dates anyway - or surely any dates would be on sale. Let's hope for later in the year...
  5. Got them at last!! Thanks for the tip Auria and to Brianne for your help also. Yes it seems Visa rules over Mastercard in the far reaches of Galicia. Now I just need to figure out how to get from Braga to Santiago - on a Sunday...! Anyone have a recommendation for accommodation in Santiago?
  6. I have been trying to buy tickets online via this agency all afternoon - but it won't accept my Mastercard - any idea if there's any other way to get tickets? Still no sign of this officially going on sale via Wilcoworld - come on guys....!!
  7. Whoa - heavy shit and not enough drugs! - I'm sure that was posted on Wilcoworld earlier today - Murcia for the 27th. I didn't imagine it - honest!! I can't think of anywhere else I would have seen that and I ain't clever enough to invent it... But it's not there now.
  8. Just booked for Braga in Potugal - I think. Once we managed to sort time off, etc, we missed the pre sale and then Braga still comes up as 'TBA' - until you hit the tiny 'wilcoworld' highlight and then I seem to have been able to book - I have an email confirmation from sandbag so let's hope so as I've just spent a fortune in flights!! I did email the Theatre direct as they have no on line booking and they did get back to me 2 days later in Portugese - thank god for Google translator! Yes please can we have details of Santiago as I'm planning my trip to get back from there having spent a
  9. With all due respect to our friends in Spain, but my espanol esta no muy bien - so I translated the announcment from the Malaga venue via google translator: "The first half of the Foundation will offer the public Kursaal Donostia twenty long events, as its leaders unveiled yesterday, are characterized by "label of quality." The sale of new subscriptions will be held between 12 and 14 January and localities can be purchased loose from January 22. Miguel Martin, developer of the Foundation Kursaal section devoted to popular music, noted the "variety" of the acts that the public benefit in the
  10. Man I am so pissed - booked a trip to Germany before they announced Wilco in Ireland, then Tweedy's solo dates in Spain and then Autumn Defense announce a show in my home town!! I doubt I'm just not going to see any Wilco activity this year. However best wishes to all VC 'ers and enjoy these upcoming shows..............!
  11. Last I heard, (after Dublin last November) there were no plans for a return to UK or Europe until late 2008. I asked a promoter contact of mine this week if he'd heard anything for that period and he had not, but that of course could just be Scotland. I've been sitting it out to see if there was a chance of euro dates in September and then seeing that Mr Kotche was booked to play with Kronos on the 3rd decided on taking a trip to Germany. Two hours after having booked that, i saw the message re Tweedy's gig in Mallorca - merde and double merde!! Keeping it crossed for the end of the yea
  12. For those of us not in the know - ie most of Europe - what is so special about Tanglewood? It's a name I've heard of down the years (including the Silver Jews album of 2006 - 'Tanglewood Numbers') but the significance is lost on me...
  13. There's no argument - it was Dublin 14th November. I was at the back near the soundboard and couldn't believe how good it was - Nels was just on fire. The next night in Dublin, he was more restrained even though i was up front near stage.
  14. What happened in Torino? I prefer to see bands on the continent as in general the audiences seem to be there for the music, not just to get drunk and shout out at every juncture. I was at the Neil Young gig in Edinburgh last month and the calling out at every quiet moment was verging on the criminal. You could see even Mr Soul was getting pissed with it. Best places I've seen bands are: The Cirque in Brussels (Calexico/Iron & Wine), Wilco in Paris, Ghent and Amsterdam where the place was so high it was impossible not to inhale...
  15. I see Wilco are confirmed for Ireland's Electric Picnic festival on the last weekend in August - has anyone heard rumour of any other European dates around this? Surely they won't come over just for one festival slot? I need to book my Wilco holiday!!
  16. Wilco have done pretty well in end of year lists, considering the lukewarm response to SBS when it first came out in May. Here in UK land they made No 5 in Uncut magazine and No 10 in today's Guardian reader's poll - ie not voted by the London-centric music media, but by music fans. (And I hasten to add not me, as I didn't see they wanted people to vote!) So maybe now can we finally dispel this myth that they ain't popular in the UK? Anyway best wishes to all Wilco fans worldwide at this time of year - wherever you are. Keep safe and keep enjoying the music!!
  17. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hh - I can't make that! What a brilliant idea. I soooo wish I could make that. Maybe we'll get a live DVD from it....?
  18. I think it's fair to say that a US tour is a lot easier for them to do - it's only 10 days after all. If you look at Wilcobase they've actaully done a lot of gigs in Europe this year - compare that to many other bands at their level. Although it's only 3 weeks since their last gigs in Dublin, I want to see them again soon too, so let's hope there will be more eurogigs in the offing!! It's a drug, isn't it?
  19. As someone who works in the business the issues are multi fold, but the setting of ticket price is always by the promoters. They have to take into account artists fee (negotiated with the agent), venue hire and sundry expenses, tech riders, personal riders, taxes, etc, etc and then allow themselves a margin for profit on top. The industry in general is complaining that the artists' agents are demanding higher and higher fees which is squeezing promoters' margins. However having seen Wilco six times this year in five different countries the Dublin tickets were definitely the dearest. I wa
  20. Technically it is wetter here today in Edinburgh than it was in Dublin a week ago but these shots are bringing back the heat man! (Especially when I compare them to my poor efforts!) Makes me want to book for Autralia and New Zealand right away... Good work sir.
  21. Best moments: Seeing them so many times this year - Paris, Ghent, Amsterdam, Glasgow and twice in Dublin - and seeing how they can do it so differently and keep it exciting for them and us Worst moment: finding out that the UK tour was pulled...
  22. Just got back after these shows - absoolutelyfeckinamazing. We were up at the soundboard on the first night which was cool but were stuck in the constant traffic to and from bar and toilets, so we elected for down the front for the second night - just fantastic. Struck by just how much the band were enjoying themselves and the sense of energy they create amongst themselves that really flowed of the stage and into the crowd. Too many highlights to point out here - many of which have been written about already - but just being able to be there for those two nights was highlight enough. I s
  23. The missus and I are coming over early Wednesday morning from Scotland for both shows, then we are being joined by three friends from Edinburgh and Aberdeen for the Thursday show. Staying nearby so we hope for a close encounter during the day! This will be the 5th and 6th times we've seen them this year - they are simply stunning in concert and the huge back catalogue makes it a real adventure to see what they are going to play. We saw them over three nights in Paris, Ghent and Amsterdam back in May and although the core sets were similar there were surprises every night. I don't care wha
