Wah! Jay Farrar on Uncle Tupelo last week......
myboyblue replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
Uncle Tupelo really was never an outstanding live band. I'm a big fan but an average live Wilco show is 3x better than a great Uncle Tupelo show. I think the idea of it them together is much better in people's mind than the actual reunion would be. -
Sorry I meant that they "may" not get back together. That said, I'm pretty convinced that Jay is a jerkhead that hates his fans and he doesn't want us to be happy.

Here's my Mom's reaction to Palin's description of a death panel: "You know I don't want to live in that America either. That Obama is pushing a socialist agenda!!" -
I haven't read what Tweedy said. I really don't give a good crap about it to be honest. I'm relatively certain it was in context to the fact that they weren't getting along at all. That's water long under the bridge at this point. I'm fairly certain that they, and everyone else in the world, would do things slightly different if given the chance. Oh, and they aren't going to get back together either.

um, ok? -
I've seen Uncle Tupelo a few times. Jay let Jeff talk, and sing, into the microphone on all occasions. They seemed to get along quite well at the time. He must have really let him have it after the show, huh? I've had the pleasure of meeting Jay a few times and he has always been very cordial.

This is what I'm trying to say. If you are blinded by "your" political party, you are making a bad mistake. I could vote for a Republican or a Democrat. By nature, I'm not partial to either. Though I have always voted for a Democrat as the presidential candidate, that is solely because I believed them to be the best candidate. McCain was the best candidate I have seen the Republicans roll out in 12+years. I liked Obama better but it wasn't solely due to his party affiliation. However, when they trolled out Palin in a very "carl rovian" strategical way, that sealed their fate. Very k -

the only way I'd be afraid of her is if I was a Republican. -

You think the two are on par? If so, that aids in my confusion. Obama and Hillary Clintom were both superior candidates to what the Republicans were running up. Further, McCain (pre-Palin) was one of the better candidates that the Republicans had run up in 12 years. He was just 12 years late. -

no denigration here... I simply don't understand how someone could possibly support Palin as a candidate (or a public personality). Although my feeling is that it is blind loyalty to a party. -

You honestly believe that Al Gore is the ultimate fear mongerer? Not Carl Rove or Dick Cheney? I'm always shocked/fascinated at how people who toe a party line see things. I disagree that people who slam Palin are stroking their egos. I'm not sure where you get this. She is a buffoon and a sham rolled up by the republican party to serve a very specific purpose. She was not at all qualified to run with a 70+ year old Republican candidate as vice president. That, coupled with some of the asinine things that come out of her mouth regarding religion, international relations, budget, etc., -

Not to pile on here but I think it would be weak if they were to get back together. They are MUCH better individually than they were together. As much as I like Uncle Tupelo, I like Wilco/Son Volt/Jay, and their many incarnations, much better. That + Wilco is 10x the live act that Uncle Tupelo ever was. -
Have you been able to see them live? Great live act. I like ~ 90% of their stuff. Their newest didn't resonate with me as much but I didn't spend nearly the time with it that I have w/their previous releases.
-
You know, I did see them in Nashville once. They were great but there were a lot of 'big elbows' in the crowd.
-
I gave it a quick listen as I love Auerbach and the Black Keys. The prospect of it sounded pretty interesting. Maybe similar to some of the 'mash up' work that has been on their recent album. Turns out, I don't like rap music.
