  2. she does that song about a horse and a cherry tree? quite possibly the worst song i've ever heard is her other stuff less crappy?
  3. good god ... did she really record it? i heard a cover of wuthering heights recently from some hot shot blonde australian chick and it just was pitiful one song nobody should cover anyway, back to the topic at hand ... occurred to me today that ... The Grateful Dead first sets were wayyyy more interesting than second sets!! songs > jams
  4. should i see 'em friday? haven't heard 'em heard a bunch of hype, which usually is a turnoff i despise the name, but if ya'all tell me to go, i'll go

  6. heard impossible germany today at a convenience store doesn't even surprise me anymore then i heard the waterboys at a starbucks about an hour later and that was pretty damn cool
  7. yeah, not a big fan at all didn't think this was the place to post that, but since you did first ... i agree!
  8. it blows worst i've ever seen apparently jay just doesn't give a shit if people know when / where he's playing, who's in his band, what projects he's working on, etc. and his management supports him in that indifference. rare to see a band that has national aspirations with such shoddy management, direction and PR apparently, jay just doesn't give a flying fuck about his fans but holy christ, his music is great and his recent live shows have been incredible
  9. i saw that guy Bare Jr. open for son volt in philly a couple weeks ago and he did nothing for me to put it mildly. don't get his deal at all son volt was just tremendous
  10. this is something i come up against all the time people hear that i dig the dead and roll their eyes and give me the same tired stupid lines about how they hate jam bands i've given up trying to explain to idiots that songs like box of rain, ripple, jack straw, black muddy river, friend of the devil, cumberland blues, brown-eyed women, etc., have as much to do with some vague idea of a "jam band" than the music of woodie guthrie does and if people want to cut themselves off from some of the most powerful, evocative and beautiful american music ever made just because the band also had an
  11. i guess i'm a couple years too late to claim The Long Cut? whatever happened to this project? was it ever completed?
  12. i mis-read this at first thought it said, "I heard an announcement they were playing AM at the Virgin Fest."
  13. i agree about the gutterball stuff, really tremendous and i felt the same as you with wynn after that horrible tragedy in richmond. i was totally devastated i met steve a few months ago and we had a nice talk about everything that happened & it was therapeutic for me -- he has just started playing some gutterball songs (i think he did When you Make up Your Mind the night i saw him - phenomenal song), and even though i still can't listen to gutterball, seeing steve perform -- and he's just phenomenal live -- got me listening to steve's solo stuff again tell me ... when it's over
  14. i was in london once for work and they put us up in a very expensive hotel -- i think it was the Grovesnor Square Marriott? so i had found a kate bush music folio book at a music shop that morning, and I went down to the piano bar, sat down, and started playing these magical songs all of a sudden, all these people gathered around the piano, singing wuthering heights, moving, the man with the child in his eyes blew me away it never occurred to me that people might actually know these songs was an unforgettable night
  15. yeah, right up there with "Master of Going Faster" from George's NASCAR period!!
  16. yeah, i had the Kick Inside poster up above my bed for three years in college incredible talent i just saw a video of some hotshot singer from australia or somewhere doing wuthering heights and it was dreadful. a song nobody else should ever sing
  17. now, that would be a great thread, too - what song did you used to put on to clear out the house at the end of a party. ours was We Just Disagree by Dave Mason. usually did the trick in about 20 seconds love kate. i believe that's her brother on her left. not sure who the other woman is
  18. not sure how blasphemous these two statements are ... photograph & what is life would be my 1-2, not sure in which order. both harrison compositions? i believe photograph cowrite with ringo? favorite beatles solo track would be a good thread ... i can listen to their solo stuff more these days than the band stuff, which i love but have burned out on or ... to stay on topic ... the beatles are unlistenable
  19. that is the definitive recorded version, no doubt just piano, gabriel + a bit of frippertronics in the background actually, just heard that version the other day at the troc while waiting for son volt's set to start
