That's awesome, Kate!! I'm blown away by your progress and dedication. Doesn't it usually take 2-3 months just to get in shape (not being one who ever commits to going to the gym, I don't know for myself,) and here you've gone from a less than 25 yard swim to 800 yard swim in 6 weeks! You AMAZE me!!

Van Halen "Eruption" ...everything about it. The acoustic guitar on the VU's "After Hours" is the perfect gentle touch to go with Mo Tucker's vocals. Plus such a great contrast to the fuzzed-out raw sound of most other Velvets stuff (which is also way kickass but I don't know enough technical stuff to comment on.) The distortion on Syd's guitar in "Interstellar Overdrive" and pretty much every other way he uses the guitar on Piper.... daaaaaaaamn!

from the ABC official Lost podcast, a clarification of what things that appear on the island have been the smoke monster and what have been other things (summary from DarkUFO): Notice that Jack's father and Vincent are missing from the list. Vincent's probably the monster's chosen shape to move undetected among the islanders, and if you've seen the very last webisode released before this season began (entitled "So It Begins" and fitting before the opening shot of the series pilot,) it seems that Jack's father is sometimes the monster and sometimes a manifestation of the island's spirit/wil

Wow that sounds really interesting! Perk of working in a library: I am about to walk up to the stacks and fetch this book for myself. Thanks for sharing!

I can't commit to anything right now because my current lease is up July 31, so there's a very good chance I'll be packing or frantically searching for an apartment on the weekend of the triathalon. However, I'm trying to get out of my lease early and hopefully move in June (it depends on my friend I'm moving in with and when she gets a job -- first interview was last week, here's hoping!!) so if that happens and my July is not about prepping for a move, I'm in! Yay, Kate!!

I have the Locke one. I'm planning to buy Desmond and Sayid off of series 3, but apparently due to poor sales they are considering scrapping the series altogether, which would be a shame because McFarlane does great work and these are fabulous figures. Very detailed paint jobs, as you can see from the images on your link.

That's awesome, Kate!! Keep it up! I knew I forgot to do something... crap. Kiefer is a great starting point for swim gear, even if you only do online window shopping and then go to a local store to check out things in person. goggles on Kiefer swim caps on Kiefer The goggles are hard to advise on because it depends on your preferences of shape and padding. There is everything from Swedish goggles (no padding, very small coverage -- I would avoid these,) to plastic with rubber padding, to plastic with foam padding, and probably more that I can't think of. Tinted, untinted, mirrored, colo

You shouldn't assume anyone's dead on this show without proof, and we didn't see a wound like on Karl (although other characters' wounds haven't meant death, either.... Locke, Mikhail...) Weren't they only teasing about a death this week? Also, Danielle was rumored to get a flashback this season but due to the strike the season got condensed from 16 episodes to 13, so if she was going to get one hers was probably scrapped in favor of focusing on the main characters.

Tell her to get Mark Prior, Nomar, Kerry Wood, and anyone else the Cubs thought would be the guys to lead us to glory.

How many of you go out on WEEKNIGHTS to see bands?

Waaaaaaaay different Berwyn. I'm with Jules on this one. -
Here's what I said about Lost midway through last season: it's like waiting for a bus that doesn't come. You could just start walking, but you've already invested so much time waiting. You might as well just keep waiting, because as soon as you leave the bus will show up. This analogy might work better if you've dealt with the CTA. I do feel the same as you about Sun, and a number of other characters. Locke is so out there, and I can't see where this is going. He's become a caricature of himself, which sucks because he used to be one of my favorites. Sawyer was right to call him Colonel Ku

The Guinness is flowing, the corned beef is cooking, and I am ready to draft!! We really need a baseball emoticon.

from DarkUFO, what's left after this week's episode and the short break:

It's creepy that when I saw the word "pop" in your quote my first reaction was "Oh no, PopTodd's finally invaded the Lost thread." One question about how the tombstone was set up: was that a husband/wife tombstone where Sun will eventually be buried and the date on the far left side of the tombstone (something 1980) is Sun's birthday?

I figured because this is shortly after they've returned home, the world-wide hype and fame of the Oceanic 6 is probably really high at that point, and Hurley was glad that it would just be a small private escape from all of that. Like "awesome, we don't have to be the Oceanic Six right now, we can just be two people." Since that's how he reacted to the fame of being a lotto winner, ya know.

Man that episode was a snooze. They're getting really bad about spoiling their own shocker moments. Not just in this episode, but in most of this season. The cell phone tip-off about the flash's place in time, again? And in last week's preview you could see the man was Michael, so even if you somehow failed to pick up on all the other clues, that was a pretty big giveaway. The only thing that made me go "wha???" was why Jin's tombstone says he died on 9/22/2004 (the day of the plane crash,) although somewhere down the line I guess we'll see it has something to do with the crash cover-up and

Yes, cap and goggles would definitely help! I actually thought of asking about these earlier. The cap will help with the hair problem you mentioned, but the goggles are what will make a huge difference. Tomorrow I will look up links to some good cap and goggle info. There are lots of different swim cap materials, and of course goggle styles. You'll have to try out what's comfortable. Luckily goggle packaging is easy to open and test the goggles right in the store (shh.... ) If you feel silly wearing a cap, maybe one of those zigzag plastic headbands that clips to itself would help keep hair ou

Kate, that is fantastic!! I'm so proud of you!! Not gonna lie, I teared up a little reading that. You are inspiring me to get a gym membership and get my ass back in the pool! Keep me updated on your progress and tell me about things that are still difficult. I will do my best to suggest techniques and exercises that will help the problem areas.

At least you self-edited.

Back when I was a prisoner of suburban life, I lived 15 minutes from that Ikea. I've had more than my fill of random Ikea trips over the years, as it's one of the only places for minors to hang out (other than bowling alleys, movies, and the Starbucks by Woodfield) that is open after 9pm. I've also heard (but don't remember from where) that square-footage-wise, it's the second largest Ikea in the world after the one in Stockholm. And this makes me think (again) that you are my roommate's secret VC alias, because she is the queen of facebook stalking and constantly gleans info from it.

Not for long, bub. I want you in Chicago ASAP!! So MB better get this trip on soon, and I will meet you at that Walgreens in West Memphis for some Old Style delight.
