prior to West, World Without Tears was my least fave Lu studio album...
-
i've heard some rumors as to who might be in the new band (or at least at the 400 Bar), nothing too crazy or exciting (yet).
-
considering i was the person who started that rumor before Pitchfork even picked up on it: http://nc.startribune.com/blogs/poplife/?p=497 but yeah, I know for certain Matt will be nowhere near Minnesota on NYE and the source is 100% reliable. trust me I wish it was true (i bought the ticket partially on the hunch, because I much prefer Matt over Conor).
-
it's... interesting a few of the covers are pretty stunning, but on the whole i wasn't that big on it.
-
not happening whatsoever unfortunately ah well, i'll still go on the 30th
-
Victoria Williams. the ex-Mrs. Mark Olson
-
just in time for the follow up in April

You should see a Psychiatrist about that, you're clearly delusional

Hmm Can't say I hear a shred of BRMC in 'Abel' The 'my mind's not right, my mind's not right' screaming is 100% Frank Black, hell Matt even owned up to it in an interview.

whenever the song Righteously (which i'll admit is pretty repetitive to the point of borderline annoying) came on the radio when that album was being pushed, my wife would yell at me to turn the station immediately. she couldn't believe I actually listened to and liked Lucinda
-
Mr. November? Murder Me Rachel? Lit Up? those are every bit as rockin' as Abel (not as Pixies-ish however) i know a lot of people who enjoy those types of songs by the National but don't care much for the rest, i guess i can somewhat understand, but Abel, as much as I love it, isn't an example of Matt's great lyrics really, just a great rockin' song. their moodier/darker midtempo stuff is what gets me going most (Fake Empire, All The Wine, Lucky You, Green Gloves, Secret Meeting, etc.). that and i adore Matt's Leonard Cohen-esque vox.
-
no, you seemed like you specifically brought up the National for the sake or arguing is all. i wasn't dissing on Lucinda previously at all, just that i was really really disappointed in West. i was being pretty facetious in my "asshole" comment if you couldn't tell. lastly, if you can look me in the eye and call the National's song "Abel" boring, i don't know what to say anywho, boring or not, Matt is a stellar lyricist imo and I think that's a huge draw for many many people.
-
that's kinda my feeling unfortunately. don't get me wrong, i LOVE Lu, hell, i have a pretty crazy personal connection to her actually, but while Essence was solid, the last 2 studio albums feel like coasting to me and both are wrought with some really bad lyrics. case in point: sorry, but that's like sixth grade lit class stuff right there... : or ready to go home
-
that's fine, but you specifically called out the National when i was just discussing Lucinda and hadn't said anything specifically about them. i'll start a poll just to show you many people on here will prefer it then because i can guarantee it'll be a landslide. not saying that makes one better than the other, but you're acting like i'm insane for preferring The National to Lucindia, especially their 2007 albums. if you've paid attention to this forum at all this year you'd realize that's far from the case. also, how can you be "disappointed" by the latest National album when you obviousl

ok, now you're just being an asshole for the sake of, congrats!

what one would you say is worse? all i know is, the lyrics to "What If" are some of the worst i've heard in years. World Without Tears was my least fave of hers until this one, but this one makes WWT sound pretty amazing. i'd rank her albums as: Car Wheels (head and shoulders above the rest of her catalog, no question) Sweet Old World Self-Titled Happy Woman Blues Ramblin' Essence World Without Tears West
-
Get Lonely had some pretty stuff, but after a run of 4 stellar records, not exactly up to snuff for me. i prefer John's uptempo stuff as well, so...
-
not to mention that Lucinda album might be her worst to date
-
so true...
-
can't say the same. i probably only liked 6 or 7 songs out of the 19 enough to listen further. if you haven't heard Freeway's "Free At Last" or Pharoahe Monch's "Desire", check those out, definitely 2 of the years best hip hop/rap records.
-
yay! the scary thing is, as much as it blew me away from August through October, i have a feeling when i get the vinyl version (the re-release is out Feb 19, vinyl dame day) and re-visit it more fully in the dead of winter, that it will sound even more amazing

They HAVE to record the Winter Residency

yeah, i know for the webcasts that's all the more they do (with it's own mix), just not sure if the stuff they record for themselves is only 2 channels as well or what. might be most all of the time, then for special occasions where they feel like they might end up using it for an official release, record more.
