  1. sorry, i think he's trying to be a rock star in a band that doesn't need any of your typical rock star posturing (i hate it in most any band though, but especially Wilco)
  2. while i'm not gonna get into the Jay vs. Nels vs. whatever debate, it seems that a good portion of the people who diss on Jay never even saw the band live in person with him and base most of their comments off of how he was percieved in IATTBYH i will not argue that Nels is a better technical player than Jay Bennett, that's no question (Nels is a better guitarist than like 90% of guitarists out there), but Wilco's shows from '96-99 were quite awesome, just as good if not better than they are now. i prefer the new lineup (maybe sans Pat (no offense, i just don't think he contributes all that
  3. i'm all about Wash the Day, A Method, Province, Playhouses, & I Was A Lover, but as far as rock tunes go, Wolf is certainly killer. as for the first one, it had a few great songs/moments, but i kinda felt like the initial poster here, i didn't think it was worth all the buzz/hype really, this one however is.
  4. yeah, def top 5-10 for me on the year w/o a doubt. light years ahead of the first full length. first EP is up there too tho.
  5. MSDW is def a good deal better than Wolves as well (as great as Wolves is). thought that upon first listen of it, still do.
  6. dude, not bragging here, but i heard Modern Times before probably all but maybe 1 or 2 members on this forum (if not every one), and surely long before i read any reviews/press about it, and my first thought was "wow, his singing sounds quite good on this". even my mother, who is NOT a fan of Bob's voice at all, told me she really enjoyed this record, because his voice is a lot easier to understand and he's crooning a lot more. get over your fucking self, just because you don't like it, or think it's way way lower quality than the previous two, or way low in his catalog, doesn't mean everyon
  7. oof, the latest Strokes & Lips belong nowhere near a best of '06 list (i'd say the new B&S as well, but i digress) and SAVES THE DAY? get the fuck outta here
  8. Trouble is a killer track tho. love those creepy lyrics this arrived in my mailbox yesterday, and i didn't even order it, how about that!
  9. it just doesn't have the great melodies that the first 2 were full of. it has a few, but on the whole, notsomuch. i appreciate them for branching out a bit, but in this case i'd have preferred the "if it's not broke don't fix it" approach.
  10. yep, old news. it's pretty good. not on the same level as Inverted or Chutes tho.
  11. i dig it, but it's not on the same level as the first 2 EP's for me
  12. Explosions In The Sky were played during that intro montage
  13. oh wow, i listened to him a bunch today without even remembering what day it was, crazy
  14. i'm sure the kid was thinking the same thing the entire time too
  15. yeah, the lyrics to Working Man Blues and Nettie Moore are definitely uninspired...
  16. Jeff could have done like Maynard from Tool
  17. maybe so, but it's not honestly not as big as either of those
  18. seems like? it is. sad thing is, i liked Unified Theory way more than Blind Melon

  20. certainly not as awful as Pfork made it out to be (then again hey gave his last a 3.0 too). i'd give it a solid 6.5-7. not any tracks i outright dislike, but only a few i love too (title cut being one). not dissapointed with it really. he'll never touch Bewilderbeast, but i wouldn't expect it either.
  21. Randy Newman's 1972 album 'Sail Away'
