i think the first one is still my favorite, but the new one is really feckin' great. lot more diversity. ballads, guest spots (Dave Pirner & Elizabeth Elmore, etc.) i listened to it all weekend. figured it'd get a high 8 low 9 on Pfork today or tomorrow, 9.4 is a bit higher than i figured even. i'd say it's def top 5-10 for me on the year so far tho. the Twin Cities references kill me. i've got a fun project related to that that i'm gonna try and work on here soon

holy shit this is absolutely AWFUL i mean the first one, while i'm not a fan and it was a bit lame/cheesy, was at least really catchy and somewhat fun... this one.... wow there's a pretty young local Minneapolis band, White Light Riot, who sound a bit like The Killers sometimes, who's EP totally blows this away: http://www.whitelightriot.com/index2.html

i'm missing all 3 of those too, but i'm seeing the same bill in Fargo on Sunday
-
haha, well i figured she was gone from the board i could shorten your nickname... oops as for GNR, didn't now about that one, or care...
-
i like Rule of Three a lot too, but he should have cut out a few of the chorus repeats
-
wel i didn't even include Tweedy in my list as good as he is, post '80, no way he's top 10 or me. if it wasonly post '90, sure, he'd be top 3-5 easily.

hmm... that bill is just MMJ w/ Wax Fangs opening and it's at the Riverside according to MMJ? -
Reni, they do... their newest one, Curses, (which Dave Grohl produced) is not very good imo check out On Top (produced by Steve Albini!!!) and The Lipstick Game
-
that's fine, i love plenty of FUN music (although Guster fill my fun quotient rather well), i just think there's a lot better options to spend my money on, that's all . if i want big dumb rock i'll go see Rye Coalition (who totally blow Wolfmother away live) they're not the worst band ever, but the people claiming they're this amazing band, etc., just make me nauseous
-
haha, yup... like "hey, someone's playing Sabbath Bloody Sabbath/Led Zep III.... no wait, WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK IS THIS SHIT?"
-
Patton? yup. hilarious their show here was like 80% frat dudes high fiving each other
-
the St. Paul show is the same night as Dylan & The Foo Fighters acoustic too also, there's no dates listed on high road now...
-
they do "rock", but that doesn't make their music (and especially their lyrics, have you actually looked at the lyrics for Woman? ) any less generic imo they put on a good live show, i just wish their music wasn't so one sided. i got tired of the record in like a week or so. how a band like that gets popular all the sudden, when bands like Nebula have been doing the stoner rock zep/sabbath thing (albeit even better) for a long time. maybe it's the hair...
-
Wolfmother are pretty generic imo
-
Andrew is from Chicago, MMJ are not...
-
yeah, the only reason i'm going to the one in October is it's at the small venue he used to play until he started getting bigger the last year and a half
-
jesus yeah, how the fuck did i forget Jeff Buckley & Nick Cave?????
-
feels like it, but actually just 4, with one still coming up
-
maybe so, but i think Greg has been much more prolific & consistant over the years. plus his lyrics are just great.
-
i think i've seen Andrew approx 28 times this year, and will again in a few weeks, so i'd easily pass on those
-
nope, i'd imagine it will be soon
