  1. heck, we've been in a bit of a KJJ drought here the last year and a half even
  2. no offense to Jody Stephens, but the short Golden Smog set Sim played on 2 weeks ago totally blew away their full set earlier this summer
  3. was Sim Cain on drums?
  4. new track, 9 Crimes http://download.yousendit.com/4626D90D416EDB2E features Lisa opening up the track on vocals not bad.... no amazing but def not bad
  5. Redempton's Son kicks the everloving crap out of this new one (as does the last one) the songwriting just isn't that strong for one... there's maybe 3 or 4 really GREAT songs, and a lot of drone-y/boring songs. and the vocal effects & layering ruins a lot of other tracks, some which would be ok without all that stuff. it's just a really depressing sounding album for the most part i think.
  6. her vocals are pretty, it's just i would enjoy the record more with her vocals not playing such a prominent role. kinda like Jenny's vocals on the last MEC record, one of the reasons i wasn't too big on it and like the new one more.
  7. that Hunter record rules, one of my faves this year i think he reminds me of Martin Sexton a lot (along w/ the obvious Sam Cooke/Van Morrison), so if you dig his sound, definitely check out Martin (his music isn't as retro sounding however) hoping to see him in November. he was here this summer at the Taste of MN, but it was opening up for Los Lonely Boys :-/
  8. i'm w/ Peel, it is great but the female vocal annoys me after a bit too.
  9. they're from here, but their fanbase here is fairly small (and yeah, mostly all teens/early college) have seen them a few times over the years, not bad as far as pop punk goes really
  10. it's rock i want, i'll definitely take II, III, or I, but for all around i love the depth and diversity of Houses.
  11. am i the only one who thinks that Over The Hills and Far Away is one of, if not the best Zeppelin song ever?
  12. yeah, considering i've been let down by 2 pretty great singer/songwriters already this year (Joseph Arthur & Ray LaMontagne), possibly more if i stop and think about it, i'm not getting my hopes up either.
  13. i'm sure he's pretty fucking astounded by his popularity as well

i really hope his music doesn't "change drastically" in all honesty
  15. Jack is a pro-surfer who turned to play music at the insistance of friends after he had a bad accident that forced him to retire from surfing professionally. Jack would be the first one to tell you that he's not really that great of a musician. in '01 when i saw Jack open for Ben Harper a bunch of times before his first record broke, if you would have told me Jack would have one of the best selling records in the world in 2006, i would have laughed in your face. can't really get down on Jack, his music is definitely boring at times too, but he's got a pretty good sense of melody and is one
  16. there's been much much better 3rd party apps to fetch artwork (from various sources too, not just iTunes Music Store) forever my favorite for the mac is ArtCollector and i use pearLyrics to fetch the lyrics for me (they can display on 5th gen ipods too)
  17. yeah, you really just have to learn to tune that shit out. i've seen so many solo artists where the crowd was chatty as fuck (recent one being Jose Gonzalez opening for Zero 7), but i wasn't going to let that spoil an otherwise amazing set, and luckily they didn't. yes it's annoying, yes it'd be better without it, but it's a part of going to concerts. annoying people are a part of life, i just learn to deal with it and not let it get to me if i can help it (although annoying drivers can be tough to ignore sometimes )
  18. News - New Album Confirmed - 15/09/2006 EskimoFriends can now confirm that Damien's second album will be called "9" and will be released this year. The release date of November 6th is not yet confirmed and will differ amongst different countries.
  19. to each his/her own i suppose i was a pretty big Lifter Puller fan first and foremost (still am for the most part), so i was a lot more interested in their sound on Almost Killed Me. the organs on Seperation Sunday got really annoying for me. songwriting wise i'd maybe agree w/ SS over AKM, but Seperation didn't have a single song as good as Knuckles either...
  20. yeah i actually saw him in 2001 on the recommendation of a friend, this was just before Room For Squares came out so he was not known at all. the place holds like 600 and was barely 1/2 full i'd guess. his guitar playing definitely impressed me, but his songwriting was just way too generic for me to really explore his music further. just under a year later he came back and played a 4900 seat venue, w/ Guster and Martin Sexton opening, both of whom are 2 of my favorite live acts, so i went and saw both the opening acts, left before John's set to go see The Shins at a tiny club. my wife and he
