1. i don't mind her voice... sure it's a bit "pitchy" at times dawg, but i dig the 50's vibe certainly better than Scarlett Johansen's...
2. hear the first track off of the upcoming GAYNGS album 'Relayted' due out 5/11 (digital download for pre-orders on 4:20): The Gaudy Side of Town: This song features members of Megafaun on guitar/bass/drums, Justin Veron (Bon Iver) on vocals, Zach Coulter (Solid Gold) on vocals, and Mike Lewis on sax. total Sade vibe going on imo.
3. Cortez, i'll fully admit that i slept on the Dawes album for a few months even though i'd seen them @ SXSW last year and once over the summer, partially due to just sheer lazyness on my part, but the album wasn't promoted all that well initially either it seemed. that said, i MUCH much prefer North Hills to Sky Blue Sky, sorry have you seen Dawes live yet? they're fantastic live and more than worthy of any and all buzz they're getting on Via, late or not. it's not like the album got a TON of traditional press... it got a decent review in Rolling Stone if i recall, but Pitchfork never rev
4. i'll have to listen more closely, but i only recall 3-4 times on '59 Sound and not too many on Sink or Swim as for GAYNGS, that's what i was told, but i wouldn't stay up late if you don't usually... at the very least the podcast 'song of the day' will be available tomorrow morning very early (like 5am) new Blitzen Trapper song called 'Heaven and Earth' off their new album 'Destroyer of the Void' due out June 8th: it's pretty decent i guess... not blowing me away really, but pretty nice production on it at least. new National single debuts tomorrow night on BBC Radio 6 as well... TO
5. Dawes fans, if you're truly interested and love Taylor's voice, check out he and Wylie's old band 'Simon Dawes', a couple songs on North Hills started out as Simon Dawes songs: http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/simon-dawes-concert/20030134-110748.html they were a bit harder edged than Dawes
6. he's only done it on a couple songs in the past tho? just saying based on one song, who knows that he's "past it" on this album?
7. yeah i dig it too. apparently it's all photos the band took on tour lyrics: Look what you started I seem to be coming out of my skin And look what you’ve forgotten here The bandages just don't keep me in And when it was over I woke up alone And when it was over I woke up alone And they cut me to ribbons and taught me to drown I got your named tattooed inside of my arm And I called for my father but my father had died Oh, while you told me fortunes in American Slang And look at the damage The fortunes came for the richer men Whilst we’re left with gallows Just waiting for us lier
8. HERE IT IS! first single/title track 'American Slang' it's pretty awesome
9. new Gaslight Anthem 'American Slang' is out June 15th: American Slang Stay Lucky Bring It On The Diamond Church Street Choir The Queen of Lower Chelsea Orphans Boxer Old Haunts The Spirit of Jazz We Did It When We Were Young there's talk on the internets that the single (the title track) might be played on some radio stations today, but apparently the release date of it is in early April
10. i'm guessing it's more anthemic/poppy as it's the first single... i like it more than a lot of stuff on Stay Positive :/ as for the vocals... on the chorus i actually think it's some of Craig's more mature and in-key singing
11. haha, yeah i just had to review that this weekend and i wasn't overly nice towards it (gave it 67/100), but i didn't like all the guest spots at all either minus Mos Def & Bobby Womack. NP:
12. yeah, it's been speculated on UKK for a few days now i'm definitely planning to see them in Montreal & Toronto this year
13. they're total dillholes live they still insist on playing Kids on an iPod and dancing around during it rather than actually playing it
14. Pfork's review is pretty fair... it is an improvement on the debut in a lot of ways, but i think i still prefer some of the songs on the first over anything on this new one.
15. first taste of the new Hold Steady record! listen to Hurricane J: http://pitchfork.com/news/38234-premiere-hold-steady-hurricane-j/ it's pretty kickass
16. i don't like it one bit. i get the vibe they were going for, but there's not a single memorable melody on there for me. then again i only liked 3-4 songs on the first album and they're awful live.
17. the album only gets better with time in my experience too just wait until you get to see them perform 'When My Time Comes' live... unbelievable http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=72zKkrq4NnE finally picked it up on vinyl... it's not cheap ($20), but it's a 180 gram double LP, once i realized that i found it totally worth it.
18. first song from the new Black Keys is the Dangermouse-produced 'Tighten Up' and not surprisingly it's pretty badass: http://www.myspace.com/theblackkeys
19. that's not the first ever release of Streetcore on vinyl... i should know because i spent $32 on mine :/ https://www.auralexploits.com/product_5640.htm
20. as much as i love the record, they're WAY better live can't wait to hear stuff from MG&V (ie: lead singers from Dawes, Delta Spirit, & Deer Tick have formed a band and are playing @ SXSW)
21. they played that when i saw them back in January as well, it's an amazing cover. Jason just put up a studio version of it on their MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/jasonisbellmusic
22. going back to the last record 'The Airing of Grievances' again today, i still prefer it by a slight margin, but both are damn good records.
23. thanks for making it it's own thread... i didn't want to until it was 100% confirmed. *sigh* while i did see a great Ike Reilly show tonight, my mind was clearly kind of elsewhere. i'm just super glad I was able to see him twice, i'll cherish those memories forever.
