some of this so far is just outstanding... 2 hours worth though... that's a tough task. gonna treat 'em as 3 separate albums for this weekend at least.
-
i think they may be switching off? not positive on that, but i'd go expecting them to play 2nd

it was friggin' GREAT. they also are backing Jason Boesel on this tour. i dug a few of his songs a bit (Hand of God is esp. good), but he's definitely just starting out as a solo songwriter. Dawes were even better than the last time i saw them. such great energy and passion. The new songs all sounded really good too. You're gonna be FLOORED when they play 'When My Time Comes' live . Cory Chisel's set was really solid too, but not quite as great as when i saw him open for Brendan Benson last fall. A bunch of his family members/friends were at the show (he grew up on the iron range in MN bef

the worst part about the whole Son Volt thing wasn't that he changed all the members, it was that he'd initially asked the Boquists, etc. to reunite initially and they had said yes, and then weeks later after he wanted to dick them out of their $$ revenue share, he announced the completely different lineup.

even at their best, they were never a good studio band... their live show is the only reason they had the reputation (and now legacy) they do.

100% spot on (minus the Trace comment )
-
the album cover is just the logo i guess, that is the inside gatefold
-
oh weird... it auto-resizes for me???
-
click on it it's pretty sick. i got to hear it at a listening party last month
-
yeah... and just the way it all went down, and considering how great of a dudes Serge, Adam, & Dave (Petersen), etc. were, it's just like a really ugly breakup where I couldn't help choose sides

Marah died 2 years ago. i have absolutely zero interest in this album

i got to hear this album last month and i can safely say it's not only pretty bad ass, but also the last thing you'd expect out of most of these folks... it's gonna surprise a lot of people, both fans and non-fans of Bon Iver alike. Gayngs - Relayted is due out May 11th. When Ryan Olson decided to make a record with Solid Gold members Zack Coulter and Adam Hurlburt, it was clear to them what the result would be: a collection of drugged-up keyboards and slick bedroom production almost exclusively inspired by 10cc’s “I’m Not In Love.” To be fair, they weren't entirely off. What they didn'

admittedly i wouldn't rate it nearly as high as Pfork did, but i do like it quite a bit.

due May 11th http://www.rollingst...ow-up-to-boxer/ In the Studio: The National Get Loud on Follow-Up to “Boxer” 2/16/10, 2:43 pm EST Photograph by Sylvere H. When Brooklyn baroque-pop group the National released Boxer in 2007, it was a left-field critical and commercial success that helped them score them an opening slot for R.E.M. Even Barack Obama used the stately piano ballad “Fake Empire” on his campaign trail the following year. Three years later, the National are putting the finishing touches on their anticipated follow-up, logging marathon days mixing tracks at a studio in Brid

well... you're right on Megafaun and Ivan from The Rosebuds, but a majority of the 20+ guest artists are all local Twin Cities/Eau Claire based musicians, but some of our finest... Justin is the prominent vocalist on the record, but the man behind the project is mostly Ryan Olson, a local Eau Claire musician/producer who is in the bands Digitata, Mel Gibson & The Pants among others.

hmm... R&B/electro/soul slow jams? it's pretty crazy, but also very infectious/catchy too. it's going to be interesting to see how it's received but the sheer amount of guests on the album is amazing. there's very little info about the project on the web so far, but i'm sure they'll be announcing it any week now.
-
also, speaking of Justin, Related by a project/group called Gayngs is my most anticipated album of the year at the moment. got to hear a sneak preview of it a few weeks ago and it blew me away. should be released around the end of April or early May.

it's amazing... WAY WAY better than their last record (which was in my top 10 of 2007), and is def my #2 on the year behind Beach House. but it's an album that takes some patience i suppose. it's been even more rewarding the more times i spin it too. my friend Josh just reviewed it today and did a great job w/ his review i thought: http://www.reviler.org/2010/02/15/the-besnard-lakes-the-besnard-lakes-are-the-roaring-night-review/ i still think that's Justin Vernon singing at the beginning of Chicago Train, as he tweeted about being anxious to hear the album...
-
totally agree... they're due for something truly great
-
was kind of surprised this wasn't actually out in the US yet... i bought it at their show last Nov. great album/live band
-
i like it more than the last one already, but i can't say i'm totally blown away by it (yet). but any Ted Leo is still really damn good . cant WAIT to see him w/ Title Tracks next month.
-
yeah, that Gil record is fantastic. i think at this point i like All Hour Cymbals more, but they certainly went for it w/ Odd Blood, gotta give 'em credit for that. i still don't really love tracks 1, 8, and 9 tho. ONE is SOOO so 80's that i actually was kinda turned off that song at first, but after I got over it i realized that song is pretty rad.
-
sorta surprised Pfork still haven't posted their review of this yet... really curious to see what they think. it could go either way... myself, i ADORE tracks 2-5, but overally it's kind of an erratic album. still one of my favorite newer bands (esp. live) in the last 2-3 years though.
