i bet they play in Milwaukee too (probably around Pitchfork) and Bob, nope. but wouldn't surprise me if they play almost every major festival but Lolla (if they're playing Pfork)
-
headlining Pitchfork 2010 according to Consequence of Sound: http://consequenceofsound.net/2010/01/11/pavement-to-headline-pitchfork-music-festival-2010/ i'd expect that night to sell out in a half hour or less if true. playing Sasquatch too
-
out of what records? lol. Beach House - Teen Dream is the best album of 2010 so far for me by far. guessing it gets a pretty insanely high score on Pitchfork next week.
-
ii don't like the first 2 songs too much... but starting at Who Makes Your Money'... the second half of the record is fantastic. 'Trouble Comes Runnin' is some nice lo-fi old school Spoon. one of my fave songs of theirs in a LONG time. I Saw The Light and Out Go the Lights are both fabulous too. i'd say i already like it more than Ga so far, but maybe not quite as much as Gimme Fiction (and obvs not as much as Girls/Moonlight/Sneaks).
-
not exactly... Fool's Gold sound fairly similar, but take the afro-pop influence a bit further.
-
I Think UR A Contra is up there w/ their best songs, but besides that there's def not any singles on here as good as A-Punk, Oxford Comma, or I Stand Corrected. it's a much more refined and less frantic record than the first, so there's no doubt that the youthful energy is lacking more than on the first. Horchata is lame, as is California English, but other than that i dig the record for the most part. solid 7.5/10 or so, but def not as great as the debut. more cohesive of a listen though...

the promos they sent out were protected

hoping they do more "reunion shows" in the future, the one i saw in Oct '07 when i saw Justin play as Bon Iver live for the first time blew my mind.
-
i'd agree that it definitely flows better than the first. not exactly breaking any new grounds, and they probably did play it a BIT safe, but i'd rather see that than an all out total flop (see: CYHSY's 2nd album). solid 7.5/10 for me... but boy does that song w/ the auto-tune shit (California English i think?) kind of bug me
-
they weren't known for being horrible live, they were known for being hit or miss live (as were The Replacements and numerous other bands). big difference.
-
it is pretty damn awesome... sad they've done nothing really since though certainly mellower overall and not quite as fun as the debut, but still some pretty good songs and i'm enjoying it on this blistery winter day. the last song (I Think UR A Contra) might be my favorite on the record actually. it's streaming on their MySpace now too i guess
-
Soundgarden were never really a true arena band even in their heyday outside of Seattle, so i'd expect them to play venues between 5,000-10,000 if they do a proper US tour
-
you mean like Pearl Jam are doing all this upcoming year?
-
it has one good song on it (Check My Brain), but for the most part it sounds like they're completely stuck in 1993
-
easily one of their best.
-
well, on the last 2 yes, i'd agree, but prior to that i wouldn't. Badmotofinger's production is pretty good i think, and was their first "big budget" production to speak.
-
yeah, other than the last 2 SG albums i'd argue they were hardly "slick" either. Badmotorfinger is still one of my fave albums of that era.
-
no thanks. i don't need to hear a barrage of cymbal crashes every 20 seconds during a song plus it's clear they didn't like the guy on a personal level back then, why would they now? agreed. SG will get a nomination (and POSSIBLY P.U.S.A. (the RRHOF likes quirky one hit wonder (so to speak) bands sometimes), but i don't know that they'll ever make it in.
-
as long as Cornell's voice is up to the task, i'm all for this. not all that surprised though, i knew it was inevtiable, just a matter of when. i'm guessing it's a bid for their Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame bid in a few years now maybe Pearl Jam could bring back Jack Irons for this year's touring/shows
-
yup! the first album was on Caldo Verde. new one is on Sub Pop tho. i think he may have produced the first one too? i forget.
-
Mark Kozelek of RHP/SKM was actually involved and even toured with Retribution Gospel Choir on one tour, sadly he had to cancel the one time he was supposed to play in Mpls with them

not happening for me... possibly clear your cookies for viachicago.org? guessing it's related to the 3.0.5 update from last week. -
