  1. fantastic new record... i saw them last year w/ Laura Marling and Johnny Flynn and they were brilliant live too.
  2. could be... there were a bunch more movie references in last nights episode too. i feel like so far the show is really really good, but just shy of being truly great. the character development has been really good so far in only what 4-5 episodes? but in time can see getting tired of the "sitting around the table" aspect that makes up a good portion of the show...
  3. i thought last nights Office was just outstanding and i was crying i was laughing so hard during a lot of it (mostly Pam's phone call to Jim after Andy tore his sack "and Andy is in my room icing his balls" ). My wife and I had to rewind it numerous times to catch things we missed while laughing so loud/hard. Community is pretty damn funny too, but sometimes tries too hard to reference 80's movies so far.
  4. whether you think the Beatles are overrated or whatever, fine, but as long as people never deny their significance and just realize how HUGE they were (even outside of the world of music), i don't have a problem. it's the people who can't understand that piece, or think they didn't deserve all of the attention, etc., that make my blood pressure raise a bit. OTM. i guess i can understand it, but i can't imagine why.
  5. maybe sounding like the album as a whole, no, but there weren't exactly that many groundbreaking musical passages or studio breakthroughs on that record either. The Beatles just showed SO SO much growth from 1964 to 1968 it's kind of hard to even fathom in my head still. i'd agree with people that Dylan started out ahead of the Beatles, but they quickly passed him up in that time period.
  6. i was talking in a straight instrumentation/studio sense. not saying anything about his music in general.
  7. i can't really argue with someone who thinks Dylan was better or more important than The Beatles... but just realize that saying that or thinking is likely a much more "controversial" statement than saying the Beatles aren't all that. Dylan has always been a much much more polarizing figure & musician than The Beatles. but even though i love both, i'd agree with the person above that musically/instrument/soundscape wise, Dylan didn't really bring that much new to to the table. You can't say the same for The Beatles.
  8. the DECC Arena isn't much better than Roy Wilkins for sound. unfortunately 2/19 is my Wife's b-day so i won't be attending that show likely. Maybe i'll roadtrip it to Madison the next night (a Sat) if the weather isn't awful

  10. http://www.google.co...Tt4jVS7H7EA0b2g begins on 2/13 w/ a free show in Vancouver for the Olympics
  11. best game i've ever been to, no question. wow.
  12. i've always loved their Driven To Tears cover... but then again i'm a huge Police fan and yeah, from the brief video i saw of Mountain Song it looked AMAZING
  13. imo, verrrrrrrry. don't go in expecting much movement or banter onstage, but if you dig great musicianship and some scorching guitar work, i can't see not enjoying a BTS show
  14. i totally get what you're saying and feel similarly. it IS a good album, i'd never argue otherwise, but it just doesn't hit me like their past stuff does, and i def feel the "forced emotion" on a few songs. their stuff was already super drenched in emotion, no need to add anything artificial to it.
  15. 1. Vitalogy 2. No Code 3. Yield 4. Vs. 5. Ten 6. Binaural 7. Pearl Jam 8. Backspacer 9. Riot Act on any given day those first 4 can be my favorite tho...
  16. it's not just you... on the diff PJ forums i'm on, Riot Act is usually the consensus least favorite, but it does have it's fans
  17. i've probably seen The Shins 5-6x over the years and every time i do i wonder why i keep going back, since i've never come away from one of their shows thinking "wow, that was a REALLY REALLY great show". i suppose 2 of those shows i went to mostly because Calexico & Rogue Wave opened and Calexico blew them to pieces both nights . and the first time i saw them (before i knew their music) i went just to see Preston School of Industry. they're not a BAD live band, just a very average/mediocre one.
  18. they played their first set already, yeah. they played One By One and Deeper Down, with a little banter between Garrison & Jeff before 1x1
  19. this is true... good point. also, The Shins have never ever been THAT amazing of a live act, so maybe mixing things up a bit will change that.
  20. i THINK just the keyboardist Marty & drummer Jesse, but yeah. and he's putting out a record with Dangermouse soon.
  21. actually there's not a single song on Inverted that i dislike... i just like 2-3 songs on it MORE than anything on Chutes, is all i said. that and i'm not too big on Those To Come on Chutes... it is a consistent and more cohesive record with better production, but i just prefer the more electric sound of Inverted too. both are great records, and i don't really bat an eye when people claim either one is better, but i do have to question anyone who says Chutes is VASTLY better is all. sad that it seems like The Shins will dissolve very soon. that said, Beulah >>>>> The Shins,
  22. wildly? uhm. not really. not amongst big Shins fans at least, it's pretty even. that said, the 3rd Shins record is definitely VASTLY inferior to both. Inverted > Chutes, sorry, i'm with Dr. No on this one. Chutes is great, but there's 2-3 songs on Inverted that i like way more than anything on Chutes... ie: Caring Is Creep, Pressed In A Book, etc.
  23. No Doves or Elbow? as for now Built To Spill... honestly, even tho BTS are one of my all time favorite bands, their '00's output hasn't been THAT strong... certainly not compared to their late 90's output (Keep It Like A Secret, Perfect From Now On, & There's Nothing Wrong With Love being their best records). Ancient is one of their weakest, You In Reverse was very solid but won't make my top 200 either, and the new one is too new to consider yet, but i doubt it'd be on my list either.
  24. very very good show, despite the crap venue the sound was decent (but echo-y/boomy) up front at least i definitely saw at least once taper come in before me too. Jeff did his best David Lee Roth impressions/stretching during Hummingbird
