i def prefer it's production to any other Lucero record, no question there.
-
re: the new Lucero... this change/evolution of their sound is just SO much more natural feeling to me than the last record. that said, as much as i like this new one, no way does it touch That Much Further West or Tenneesse for me, but it blows the last record to pieces. too early to say if i like it more than Nobody's Darlings, at this point it's not hit me as hard. as for the Avetts new one... yeah, the switch from a majority of banjo-driven to piano-driven songs is one of my biggest problems. plus the studio version of Kickdrum Heart is SO SO damn lame compared to the live versions they

they're amazing for sure. been pretty blessed to have seen them a dozen or so times now. expect a new album in the Spring with a world tour to follow!
-
despite it being overly glossy & sappy, it's grown on me quite a bit. lyrically there's some real gems for sure. i'd still put it way behind 3-4 of their other records/EP's tho.
-
still in my top 10 on the year i think, love that record/band they kill live too
-
yup.

this is true! THIS.

then i'd argue you're not really that big of a Beatles fan... honestly, i compared the Ebetts, the '87 CD's, and the original vinyls to these last night and it's just insane how much better and incredible they sound who cares if they're songs you've heard a million times, it's the fucking BEATLES for god sake. that'd be like me marrying Scarlett Johannsen and after 20 years of marriage saying "y'know... screwing one of the hottest chicks in the world daily... it's kinda taken it's toll on me... i don't have any interest in it anymore"
-
i was waiting to hear them before buying... but even just hearing the Stereo ones last night... god DAMN. it's going to be a fun few months rediscovering their catalog all over again in a completely new way.
-
yeah, i'd be surprised if this wasn't the time they are finally on iTunes... the timing of Apple's event (which has already been scheduled: http://www.macrumors.com/2009/08/31/apple-issues-invitations-for-september-9th-media-event/) seems too coincidental to not be. they're also refreshing the entire iPod line (minus possibly the Shuffle) that day
-
agreed... no question it will gain them a wider audience... but at what cost? it's not BAD by any means, but like you said, certainly seems like a polished/glossier pop version of the Avetts

first listen...

WOW. the last one was very good, but this one is just on another level

On Fillmore Joins The Dead Oceans Family, Announces Extended Vacation LP We at Dead Oceans have been something close to wine-drunk on the warm, alluring compositions of On Fillmore for some time now, fully under the spell of this all-to-rare pairing of musical soulmates. Now, we're thrilled to announce that On Fillmore has partnered with Dead Oceans to release, Extended Vacation, its next beautiful foray into the unknown. For nearly a decade, On Fillmore has been exploring and stretching the very definition of the term "rhythm section." An inspired collaboration between two world-class mu

even as someone who has played music since i was 11, Rock Band is insanely fun with a group of friends, especially ones who have zero actual music ability. sure it's glorified Karaoke, but still and you don't have to spend $500 to get going with it, you can get the original RB w/ all the instruments for under $100 these days, all of which are compatible with Beatles Rock Band, Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero 5, etc.
-
after that, Post-War is probably a nice logical step
-
wow. i guess i read it totally wrong when it was initially released, that's an insane amount of cash if you wanted that whole thing... damn. glad i already have all my RB2 stuff and an extra guitar. I'll just need another mic
