  1. Annie's great. i still prefer Marry Me to Actor, but both are worthy purchases but no she wasn't part of Camera Obscura, she toured as a guitarist for The Polyphonic Spree tho and also toured as a guitarist in Sufjan Stevens band
  2. http://blogs.citypag...l_jackson_4.php The King is dead By David Hansen in Obituary Friday, Jun. 26 2009 @ 6:27AM The story ends here. What began in poverty ends in unknowable wealth. What began in a crowded, working class home in a crowded, working class city ends in a vacuum of isolation. What began in tragedy ends in tragedy. In the pantheon of popular culture, Michael Jackson's spot is singular. There can be no comparison made to anyone that came before him, nor to anyone that came after. No performer so totally dominated the consciousness of his time. No performer rose as h
  3. you misunderstood my initial point then i guess
  4. if you don't report an abuser/molester, you risk the very likelihood of them doing it again to someone else, which at that point you're partially responsible for allowing that to continue.
  5. right... but at that point i'd argue that makes the parents on the level of the abuser for forgoing the welfare of their own child for monetary purposes.
  6. exactly. if the parents truly believed he did it, but hushed up just because of $$ then they are just as much at fault for letting their kids spend time alone with Michael. i mean the '93 accusation? fine... we didn't know how much of a weirdo he was quite at that point... but the 10 years in between that and the 2nd lawsuit? come the fuck on... that's just parental negligence then
  7. hmm... it's setup to show new content from all forums, i just double checked, weird.
  8. And people forget how truly loved he was all over the WORLD... in fact he's loved in many countries WAY more than he ever was in America. when people claim that music or musicians can't change or have an impact on the world, i'd like to think you could point to MJ's musical career (before any of the weird shit) and claim otherwise
  9. i don't think it can be put any better than that... thank you
  10. the evidence that OJ did in fact kill 2 people is pretty undeniable. at the same time, so many people are quick to forget/dismiss the fact that Michael himself was abused as a child (and i'd be willing to bet sexually too). doesn't make what he allegedly did right, but it does explain things greatly. the circle continues to be unbroken with the kids he supposedly molested too. doesn't mean someone can't focus on the amazing talent & music he gave us before any of that happened. celebrate the music but not the person, pretty easy to separate the two imo. hell, am I going to never list
  11. i sure hope that if i was ever not-convicted of but rumored to have molested kids that at least some people would maybe give me the benefit of the doubt... not saying i don't think he was a kid toucher or not, but at the same time, the parents of those kids are on the hook somewhat too then if he paid them off. i mean Pete f'n Townshend was almost convicted of child porn too, but in his case I actually believe his story (he's just naive and a bit stupid however)
  12. Paul gets his songs back now at least: http://www.spinner.com/2009/01/06/jackson-leaving-beatles-songs-to-mccartney-in-will/
  13. sad thing is, besides the whole molesting thing (which he was never actually convicted of, just saying), Britney Spears life has kind of reminded me of MJ's to a point...
  14. have you ever read about his upbringing at all? the guy never stood a chance. not saying he was a saint by any means, he was a fucked up dude, but a lot of that came from his abusive father/upbringing too. but yes, it's unfortunate that the cycle likely hasn't been broken
  15. yup. they'd been in contact with his family all afternoon... guessing it was a matter of legality/coroner confirm on the major outlets part (which is a good thing)
  16. KTLA also confirms http://www.ktla.com/news/landing/ktla-michael-jackson,0,4138163.story
  17. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/06/pop-star-michael-jackson-was-rushed-to-a-hospital-this-afternoon-by-los-angeles-fire-department-paramedics--capt-steve-ruda.html LA Times update says he's in a coma with family by his side
  18. cardiac arrest is worse than a heart attack. he has died: http://www.tmz.com/2009/06/25/michael-jackson-dies-death-dead-cardiac-arrest/ very sad Farrah & MJ same day, crazy
  19. lol, nah it's cool. i know a lot of folks who think Z is their best album too, it's all good. but i think even most of those folks agree Evil Urges was flawed
  20. hmm... dunno if I saw that. i remember Jesse Greene playing w/ them once, but not a full string section
  21. true, but it took a while for the current lineup to catch up with the previous lineup with Johnny Quaid & Danny Cash. the first few shows I saw with the new lineup were pretty bad
  22. i like You Never Know some, but was fairly indifferent to that performance i suppose (neither bad nor great) I'm The Man That Loves You with the horns on Conan was probably their best late night TV performance
  23. downhill is a relative term in this case... in that just based on my enjoyment level of their albums post At Dawn has nearly decreased with every release. sure they're still a great band, and like you said, Evil Urges is mostly just bad by their own standards. like, Pfork score wise, it's probably like: At Dawn: 9.4 It Still Moves: 8.8 Z: 8.7 Tennessee Fire: 8.3 Evil Urges: 7.2 so not terrible, but a far cry from their best stuff for me too. i just would really love for a new MMJ album with only 1-2 songs i don't like (ie: like on It Still Moves & Z), or even better, that i like ever
