  1. i may have found my favorite album of 2009... this is WAY diff from their past stuff, but damn
  2. yeah, 2500 vs. almost 6000 they'd have to play 2 shows at the Orpheum, which would be fine by me, but then that usually limits bands to just the major markets and they'd skip a place like Iowa City
  3. gotcha. my friend who turned me onto David around '98-99 was working for RCA at the time and sent me a bunch of his stuff all at once, so i think i'd just heard a handful of the songs that made up Lost Songs prior to it coming out.
  4. re: Analogman hmmmm... could have swore i had Lost Songs before WL. maybe just the songs from various sources i suppose. ok, so he's sucked since The EP's in 2001
  5. totally is true. this venue is definitely along the lines of Eagles & the Aragon. it's one of the worst mid sized venues i've been to in the midwest. even the lame Myth nightclub in Maplewood (which is a former shoe-store) and seats 4000+ has really good sound at least
  6. WL was great, but not his best. his best release is actually Lost Songs by a country mile. but yeah, he's sucked pretty much since WL
  7. sadly, yes. it's insanely echo-y Stan will have his work cut out for him, but it can be done.
  8. 8.1 from Pitchfork not too bad i'd argue it should be higher + Best New Music, but it is Pfork afterall.
  9. my assumption/hunch/fear was correct. Roy Wilkins is one of the worst sounding venues i've ever attended a concert at (yes, worse than Eagles Ballroom) That said, a good sound person can make it sound tolerable/good if they know what they're doing (see: Arcade Fire) i'm glad they're coming back, but it's fairly bittersweet. edit: I already have tickets for Tortoise @ The Cedar that night... *sigh*
  10. yeah it's a bit high... i'm expecting $25-35 here in Mpls

  12. One of my favorite records of the year so far came out yesterday. It's pretty stunning (esp. The Longest Day & Guns). The album definitely has some elements that remind me of YHF at times. Megafaun are made up of 3 ex-members of DeYarmond Edison, a band which featured a certain Justin Vernon , and have also toured as Akron/Family's backing band anywho, here's what Justin had to say about the record: their first record 'Bury The Square' is really good too, but this new one is something else. they're also really REALLY fucking great live too (just saw 'em again last night). i
  13. a Minneapolis/St. Paul show in October will be announced in the next week
  14. hmm... can't say for the webcast, but they sounded ok live in person. i enjoyed their set. Thermals were a blast as always. i'd already seen them cover the Nirvana & Breeders songs back in April, so wasn't too taken back by those, but 100% & Basket Case were pretty hilarious/awesome too. The Lips were just OK honestly. not one of the better times i've seen them musically whatsoever, but still had a great time (impossible not to at their shows)
  15. shoot sorry... that was the fix for the ampersand deal was to turn off the ALL CAPS TITLE option :/ annoying trade off. i'll enable that again and keep looking for fixes for the ampersand in the title issue
  16. The Fixer is pretty cool. not overly great, but def a very solid first single. Not very big on the effects on Ed's vocals on a lot of the track, and the "yeaah yeaah yeaaah" bit gets tiring, but besides that it's a pretty solid first single. just hopefully as per previous PJ records post Vitalogy, the first single isn't even close to the best song on the record. also, fuck Brendan O'Brien and his 15 second fade outs
  17. so with the 3.0.1 upgrade this should be closer to how it worked in 2.3.x
  18. yeah, i read that... some decent logic, but it's definitely way more than 100 million, no question about that when you consider the artists who have soundscanned over 200 million.
  19. over 100 million albums? try 750+ million (and that's pre-Soundscan estimates, it very well could be higher) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_music_artists#500_million_to_999_million_records

  22. he has some of the worst artwork around lately, yeesh
  23. it's the ampersand that causes it to break, only fix is to rename it to and, which just needs to be done on a thread by thread basis. i'll fix it.
