not the only one my friend

can't wait for this as well. trying hard to book him a show in the Twin Cities in the next few months
-
you've never listened to Avetts before???? listen to the first Gleam EP right now
-
there's already been tons of backlash on their own forum even. or check the iTunes reviews of the EP from earlier. Kick Drum Heart studio version is absolutely terrible compared to the live version IMO
-
while Dominoes does get repetitive, it's a killer single. still a lot better songs than it on there tho (in particular Velvet, which is the stronger single IMO). the ones you've mentioned, plus Future of the Left, Camera Obscura, and if you're in the UK... M. Ward
-
that Big Pink record is DAMN good imo. 4AD has had the best '09 releases of any label
-
thing is, i love plenty of slow/mellow PJ songs (Long Road, Nothingman, Immortality, Release, Off He Goes, Lowlight, Indifference), but hardly any of the ones they've done post '00 hold up to their 90's ones. the best examples are All or None or Fatal. instead we get crap like Thin Air or Parachutes heck, even though i've never been a fan of Elderly Woman, i'd take that over a lot of their recent slower songs.
-
probably should have clarified in past comments that it's basically just no frills/gritty rock n' roll. it's not all that different from Rick's last band Hot Snakes at times, and isn't a huge stretch from Drive Like Jehu, both of which i dug a lot. was kind of inevitable that i'd dig Obits. they're a lot better live than on record too
-
and thankfully Dear God wound up being the worst song on the record...
-
album is pretty good... i was hoping for something mindblowing, but it turned out sorta what you'd expect it to be i suppose. still can't help feel like these are throwaway/b-side material from their own projects brought in to collaborate a little on though. that said, Matt's tracks are def the highlight for me. i've heard the shows will be 2.5-3+ hours, which for the $60-65 after fees, it better be . still a little bummed i have to miss the Mpls show, but oh well.
-
i don't mind the opening part of the song, but when it goes into the "did i saaaaaaaaaaaaay that i neeeeeeeeed yoooooooou... did i saaaaaaaay that i waaaaaaaaaaaant you" bit, my BS detector is triggered a bit and i feel like i'm listening to Coldplay or The Fray or something. from the Promo video version of Just Breathe i was thinking that i'd hate Ed's voice on the verses even too, cuz he sounded so nasally and strained on it, but thankfully it's a little more restrained in the studio.
-
oh god. that EIGHTEEN second fade out of Johnny Guitar is just downright criminal. i don't even love the song but that is inexcusable.
-
the lyrics are abysmal. as a big dumb rocker it's fine i guess, but the band has 40+ better rock songs Thumbing My Way off Riot Act was my previous least favorite PJ song, so this is at least better than that i suppose. but SoS is just SO so dull musically unfortunately. Comatose ruled however
-
meaning it's an overly sappy MOR song it's not often i feel Ed is faking emotion for the sake of, but in that case i can't help but feel that way.
-
Just Breathe = Grey's Anatomy montage song just wait
-
hardly a hater... it's just a very average album for Pearl Jam is all. it's enjoyable/pleasant, but i get very little feeling (good or bad) out of it. my overall reaction is basically indifference. it has 3 pretty sweet songs (Got Some, Amongst The Waves, & Force of Nature), but Speed of Sound is one of the worst PJ songs in a long time.
-
about all i can muster up after 6 listens is that it's better than Riot Act at least... it's neither great nor awful, but yet another average PJ record the more of these they release however, the better Binaural fairs compared to their 90's output (which is all vastly superior)
-
i can't stand the singer of Wild Beasts whatsoever... they've been playing them on our local MPR indie station for the last 2 years and everytime i hear one of their songs i have to immediately turn it off or change the station. the worst culprit is a song off one of their older releases 'Brave Bulging Buoyant Clairvoyants'... OOF
-
fans of The Exploding Hearts take note
-
iPod's can play Apple Lossless, which is kind of their version of FLAC
-
you and 10,000 other guys she is pretty damn cute though, for sure
-
dude it's so rad. Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu were great too tho, so no surprise.
-
with Win? nah, but we've certainly chatted a few times. very funny/sarcastic guy. the whole band are incredibly fun and cool people for sure, which kind of shows in their live show.
-
besides 3-4 songs nothing else from that album stuck with me past the first couple listens
-
ah... that makes sense. TN was mine, probably why i still love it so much. ND is fantastic though. wasn't until Rebels that i didn't love a Lucero record honestly.
