  1. can't stand the singers voice for the most part. i've tried to get into it the last few months to no avail.
  2. i still love the shit out of that album. he's due for a new one
  3. Dan said last night a few times that they would be back "soon"
  4. yeah, i wouldn't use "weak" to describe the album, just most mainstream and poppy and not as interesting/original instrumentation wise. i'd agree there's some nice lyrics on it. i'd recommend the first Gleam EP honestly, that's what got me into them first. Backwards Through Time especially. after that, Mignonette, Carolina Jubilee, & Emotionalism.
  5. damn that sucks! our show wasn't even sold out (full tho)
  6. i saw SDRE last night at First Avenue and they absolutely KILLED it. i'd only seen them previously with the later-era lineup sans Nate Mendel, but this show blew that one away. they're playing mostly everything off Diary & LP2 which Sub Pop just re-issued remastered + bonus tracks versions of, but they're playing some stuff off 'How It Feels' too (Guitar & Video Games last night). they even debuted a brand new song that was quite good. if you even remotely liked the band back in the 90's i urge you to go to one of these shows, it seriously was one of the best shows i've seen all ye
  7. i like this new one a bit more than Alopecia (both were actually recorded at the same time here in Minnesota). might still be my favorite record this year, not sure. Why? are all about Yoni's lyrics, which are often pretty amazing.
  8. 'Say Please' was 10x better on Conan than on the record: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zphKAjooKY&feature=player_embedded cool that it was Mogis playing that solo all the time and not Matt or Jim as suspected
  9. yeah... it had some factual inaccuracies (it's their 9th album for one, and the song that sounds like the Ramones is Supersonic not Speed of Sound, which i think they've since corrected), but overall the take is pretty decent. score is too low, but typical for Pfork and major releases. however their Monsters of Folk review today is just TERRIBLE writing.
  10. 2 of my friends who went to last nights show said Unthought Known sounded very rough and not that great last night
  11. the "vault" shows are all from like '04-'05-'06-'08 and have all been released already. it's lame
  12. fwiw, the regular version is only one disc... so i guess calling it a double album is a bit of a grey area http://www.amazon.co..._mus_ep_wlb_dpt
  13. good lord... the lyrics to Magic Marker are SO abysmal
  14. http://billions.com/...l-tour-in-2010/ Pavement : Coming To A Town Near You (If You Live Near A Big Town) In 2010 September 17th, 2009 at 9:00 am by Gerard (photography by Gail Butensky) Ever since that fateful night in late 1999 when Pavement left thepublic eye with a final show at London’s Brixton Academy, we’ve oftenfantasized about the day when we could finally tell the world “yes,Brooklyn Vegan scooped us, Pavement are back.” After years of speculation, the most important American band of the1990’s is returning
  15. this is pretty f'n amazing... the last one was super hit or miss (more miss than hit too)
  16. this sounds pretty awesome. i was rather worried honestly
  17. http://pitchfork.com/news/36505-holy-shit-pavement-reunion-is-real
  18. Dear God is a sad attempt at a Gil Scot Heron cover for me
  19. you're not alone nodep... it very well might be my least favorite full length of theirs yet (definitely doesn't touch Mignonette (easily my fave), Carolina Jubilee, or Country Was). not to say it sucks... far from it. but even the great 4-5 songs on the record area kind of ruined by the production and arrangements. it's just nearly the opposite of the reasons i got into the band a couple years ago. way too much piano driven songs, not enough banjo, etc.
