  1. that's it! Ed does a killer solo cover and has done it with Mark Seymour from H&C even you can find them on youtube i'm sure
  2. ACL is confirmed: http://www.aclfestival.com/lineup.aspx
  3. they're playing Alpine Valley in August as well (23rd?)
  4. disagree... i wish i didn't, but for me Tweedy solo is 10x the performer Ed is. I've not seen Jeff fuck up that often and i've seen him solo like 8-9x now. the difference is when Jeff fucks up, he usually shrugs it off and keeps playing, Ed let's it all go to his head and often has to stop the song completely and start over or pick it back up. that to me is the diff between a good and a great solo artist, is the ability to not draw attention to their screw ups, because even the most masterful screw up on occasion. and i guess i don't find an acoustic Lukin that great (or that song to be th
  5. if Ed was as talented of a solo performer as Tweedy was, i'd pay $60 or so, but alas.
  6. ugh. so much for their stupid patch working... fucking IPB get your shit together sorry guys. hopefully they put out 3.0 soon
  7. nope. he didn't come near here and i wouldn't have paid the $70-80 after fees either. i listened to a few shows and watched a DVD of one of them, and you're right, he's certainly gotten WAY better (and that tour only helped too), but I still didn't find it all that great either I guess. he's a funny dude, but on his own I guess I don't find him that compelling (now with Pearl Jam for sure). certainly not like say Martin Sexton or something, where my mouth just hangs open about 60% of the time at his shows. i'm sure i'd still enjoy one of Ed's solo shows, just not enough to justify $75 (i've
  8. i'm sure they are fun and all, he just doesn't really impress me as a solo performer... and never has the times i've seen him do solo sets at PJ shows (like i said, the closest is his covers, esp Throw Your Arms Around Me, Trouble, and Don't Be Shy) he doesn't have the musical chops of say Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor, Pete Townshend, etc. or even a contemporary like Ben Harper, to really impress me that much live honestly. he makes up for that a bit in intensity and his vocals, but unless he improves greatly at performing solo, or his solo work after Pearl Jam are through is mindblowing,
  9. it's SO so friggin' awesome. easily bests their last one, which was quite good. probably the best alt-country/straight up rock record i've heard this year, local or national. they played a show for the 5th Anniversary of my morecowbell.net blog last night along w/ Romantica (another killer Mpls alt-country band), it was great
  10. i'm with you in that minority as well then I guess. Ed's solo shows don't interest me that much because a) a good chunk of it is Into The Wild songs, which in the context of the film are good, but otherwise too short to really make a big impact on me, and as someone pointed out, the 2 best songs on the soundtrack were written by someone other than Ed. of the actual Pearl Jam songs he plays, most are ones that he's always played solo often (Driftin', Man of The Hour, Dead Man, etc.) and he didn't really re-work hardly any of PJ's best songs to play solo c) the best things about his solo show
  11. not really... maybe become a tighter and more polished band, but they've always been pretty damn poppy. the new one has a bit more energy and some nice electronic synths here and there. it's a much fuller sound, but still very much sounds like Phoenix
  12. yeah i don't think they'll touch the first two either, but the last 2 are still really good albums that i'm sure almost any young UK act would love to have put out
  13. not as good as the first two, no, on par if not a little better than Some Cities (even if that one is paced better)
  14. Neko Case and Eric Bachmann to Appear on Late Show with David Letterman (TONIGHT) On Wednesday, April 15th, Neko Case will be the musical guest on CBS
  15. while i like United and Alphabetical, my favorites are the last 2 i think

  17. yeah, that was sorta my point w/ the comment about January, but I was too lazy to dig that up, so thanks and forgot that it was actually late December
  18. I skateboard (well as of 3-4 years ago I did fairly regularly, not as much lately) and still don't get him
  19. well straight up knob-twiddling doesn't usually interest me too much live unfortunately :/
  20. sadly their live show bored the absolute SHIT out of me a few years ago... i'm willing to give them another shot next month @ First Ave tho
  21. i'm kidding, just found these 2 kind of out of the blue. but yes, i understand... it's the first record of theirs i can say I truly enjoy too, prior to this album i found them to be the most overrated band of the '00's... they still might be, but at least they have an album I can listen to all the way through now
  22. shit band he's not THAT young, he's 22 (he just looks like he's 15). the No Age guys aren't that much older honestly. and why don't you expect a follow up... this *IS* his follow up... it's his second record in the last year
  23. looks at calendar... nope, it's not January...
  24. The Thermals are so great... their last 3 records are all just totally killer and this new one is no different
