  1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70zJVX1aB4o amazing.
  2. very good point. that's what i've tried to stress, is that For Emma just had these insane circumstances surrounding it that kind of elevated it above just being a great album for many.
  3. looks like we were down for about 2 hours this morning
  4. interesting... i guess for me, as "busy" as it is, i feel like the layers never feel like there's TOO much going on most of the time. take the 2nd track, which is my favorite. there's the driving banjo line, then organ, horns, fuzz bass/guitar, etc., but it all fits perfectly to my ears :/ as for lyrics, like i mentioned above, i never related to the lyrics on For Emma much at all minus 1-2 songs. there were a ton of lines that once i read what the lyrics actually were i almost laughed. as i said, i don't think lyrics will ever be his strong suit, at least not at this point, therefore I
  5. i feel it's worth noting that this wasn't exactly a case of having money/success and going into a "nice studio", he recorded everything at his own studio in Fall Creek that he's built up over the last 3 years. so if you have issues with the sound/production/tones, etc. used, it's moreso due to Justin's own personal tastes. it's clear he definitely has an affinity for the 80's/early 90's from recent projects. anyone who heard the Gayngs album should not be surprised by Beth/Rest (he explained it was as "There's not enough (Bruce) Hornsby in my scene" last night on Fallon ) it's a nice studio,
  6. would seem he's playing his cover of Bonnie Raitt's 'i Can't Make You Love Me' & 'Nick of Time'
  7. Calgay but according to Justin on Twitter they aren't even playing one of his songs tonight... Phil Cook of Megafaun is playing w/ him tho
  8. yeah, it's fucking awesome, especially the last 3 songs i don't love it as much as Face Control (yet), as that was my fave album of 2009, but it's still killer.
  9. fwiw, Justin released 3 solo albums before For Emma. 'Hazeltons' from 2006 is quite good, and i love a handful of songs off 2005's 'Self Record'. the one from '01, 'Feels Like Home' isn't all that great however.
  10. honestly, i love Justin, but his lyrics have never been his strong suit... they've always been really abstract and sometimes to the point of mindless there were some really WTF lyrics on For Emma too.
  11. oh for sure. and like i've said numerous in this thread, i LIKE the album, and quite a bit more than Evil Urges too, but i've already moved on to other albums sadly :/
  12. pre-order = a push for first week sales numbers usually, whether it's physical product or digital. it's not uncommon to do a pre-order special on iTunes with bonus tracks/videos/content. i've heard there's a video for almost every song on the album, so maybe some of that was/will be included with pre-orders. as for if they'll push up the release date... possibly. i guess it depends if they'll be able to fulfill physical orders that much earlier. i could see it maybe being pushed up a week or two tho if possible. it's tougher for smaller labels to pull that off it seems.
  13. i haven't heard what the official cause was yet... someone said they were supposed to put it up for pre-order on iTunes and instead it was pushed on-sale? then quickly corrected, but not before some people noticed and bought it. not sure where the blame should be shouldered just yet... it's not the first time it's happened
  14. right... i'm fine with them being bigger/huge, but it just bums me out that their studio efforts have fallen off quite a bit since i first heard them in '02 is all
  15. great points. their rise in venue size the last 4-5 years is not due to Evil Urges whatsoever
  16. yep. thanks to a screw up on iTunes yesterday
  17. 320kbps download of the first taste of the album 'Calgary' http://pitchfork.com/news/42542-new-bon-iver-calgary/ it's awesome
  18. def not... the GA price is way more than i'd pay, but the Pavilion + 1 night GA isn't awful barring we get pavilion/GA pair, i'm likely in
  19. i have a feeling the pricing for that weekend festival @ Alpine is gonna price it outta my range... i'm hoping for less than $250/per person for the weekend, but i have a feeling it's gonna be $300+ those travel packages are just ABSURD. the same hotel room we booked 4 months ago for $119 a night is now $1,999 for 3 nights per person (sure it "includes tickets" to the festival), but still...
  20. i'd be surprised if so... but never know
  21. also all over the map quality wise too i like it, but it's def not in my top 15 on the year
  22. definitely not... that MMJ one at $80 on the other hand...
