  1. this record is just insane... the song w/ Tom Waits & Kool Keith blows my mind
  2. agreed. bodes well for The Frames
  3. i'd say it's up there too, but gonna take quite a while before i connect to it like i did w/ Sirens wish there was something like Razor Town or The Magician on here somewhat...
  4. that's one of my faves, even if it reminds me of Grown a bit musically
  5. i'm with you 100% on this. Dirty South would be my first recommendation, then Dec Day and probably SRO and BTCD after that. never really cared much for the first two... production is lacking imo.
  6. fair enough... i like Fleet Foxes & Vampire Weekend a lot too... that said, i'll good music over "interesting" for the sake of being interesting any day . plenty of bands Pitchfork lauds are "interesting", doesn't mean i think their music is any good. TGA remind me a lot of Marah... nothing that band did was very original whatsoever, but i still loved the hell out of them (mostly live). or even The Drive-By Truckers... again, nothing original whatsoever (maybe less in fact than TGA), but damn if that band doesn't kick my ass. i think that's the thing w/ TGA... they've made 2 really s
  7. it's just nice to hear a band of early 20-somethings with good taste vs. the usual emo-tinged bullshit imo as for "nothing to get excited about", y'know i thought this the first month i listened to the record, but after a couple months and seeing them live, i totally disagree, they are a pretty exciting young band (their debut is very solid too) thing is, i think the rest does hold up. sure Furr is an amazing song, but if you're looking for more Shins-esque acoustic numbers like that, then i can see how someone might be disappointed in the rest of the record...
  8. hmm... i've never been a big big Old 97's fan, but from the stuff i've heard and of Rhett's solo work, can't say i find them very similiar vocally. but i do know tons of folks who swear by the '97's, so what do i know? as for the album... it's just meat & potatos rock n roll, no frills, no glam, etc. kinda like the Replacements were. sure TGA wear their influences on their sleeve, but i think that they do what they do quite well, if you dig that sorta thing. they're a much better live band though i think.
  9. it took me about a month to fully get into Furr, but once it sunk it's teeth in, they never let go! and yeah, tangara nailed it... those 3 are amazing, as is the opening track imo (Sleepytime In The Western World), totally reminds me of Grandaddy. I also really love the last 2 tracks a lot. only song i don't fully love is Love U
  10. there's like 90 second or so samples of the entire thing on the label's site i'd imagine it'll leak soon enough, promo's just went out yesterday it's REALLY good though... but i'd say at this point i definitely prefer Sirens, although I can see that mabye changing. it's much less rock and more soul than Sirens however.
  11. sorry you didin't dig the rest, but there's 2-3 songs on there i like as much as the title track honestly. do you like their previous stuff?
  12. oh yeah. i can hear that then esp. on Save Me
  13. hmm... other than there's a bit more layering and it has Mogis' usual production tricks, it doesn't sound any more "polished" than Post-War for me, idk
  14. absolutely killer video of Anonanimal from a show i saw in December '07:
  15. fine... he's more famous than you or I, i'll give you that i'll join you
  16. he's famous???? dude's entire catalog has probably not even cracked the 150,000 mark
  17. yeah, i personally think Joe's score would have been an 8+, but the score is weighted, and PFM has never been nearly as kind to Andrew's records as he deserves (save for that crazy ass 9 for Swimming Hour). but yeah... Heretics BLOWS MY MIND every time i listen to it
  18. oh it's totally the case. speak to him in person and you'll hear exactly where his froggy singing voice comes from. so if by me guaranteeing you that his voice is 100% grade A Authentic... does that help you? . but i mentioned Louis because Matt's voice has always reminded me of Louis from time to time. personally he's one of my favorite singers of the last decade. i realize he's not for everyone, but his voice, much like Neko Case, etc. is timeless. would have fit in the 40's/50's easily.
