revisit it... many PJ fans thought that at first, because it was SO so vastly different. knowing how much your tastes have likely changed since 1996, who knows... hearing it with fresh ears might open itself up to you. i think that's the problem so many had with it when it was initially released, is that this was a band who very much made 3 hard rock records delving into very different territory for them. it took me probably 6 months before I finally realized No Code's brilliance (kinda like me with OK Computer as well). the production on No Code is nothing short of amazing either. that and

pretty sure the chorus is very tongue in cheek.... as in... isn't that something how America works. i think that the tone of it def states is disproval, but points out that's just the way it is and has been. it's not a protest song moreso as it is a commentary on America. -

it's not meant to be rosy eyed... he's saying all of these folks who have it so bad still manage to live a full life and don't really realize how bad they have it compared to "you and me", and that those who are fairly well off often tend to forget about those less fortunate, esp in pursuit of the "american dream" (ie: little pink houses) -
just finished watching SNL in glorious HD... man they really did kill it... even more than i'd expected them too. that end of Mykonos... wow i think what's even more impressive (and at times downright scary) is that Robin Pecknold is only 22 years old... guy has a LOT of great years ahead of him and is off to one helluva start.

no... just that there's only maybe 1-2 songs post 1990 that i'd put in their top 10 i guess :/
-
oof... it was that much in stores? i'm not gonna buy the deluxe unless i can get it for $20 or less... sorry Andrew
-
honestly i haven't paid attention to Bono's lyrics since Achtung for the most part...

besides Lolla i've only ever seen Dr. Dog headline, i could see them coming across a bit flat with Wilco playing after them that said, they blew me away at Lolla and filled about 2/3 of the huge field they were playing on, spilling over into the headlining stage crowd
-
yeah... supposedly according to early listens this was the best or most impressive song on the record?
-
thanks for ruining my day off
-
ah, sorry, guess i didn't pick up on what you were getting at Re: image fair enough, i just disagree with you on Fate vs. Fleet Foxes is all, as much as i love Dr. Dog, they've yet to make a truly GREAT album 100% all the way through... the last two records, while very good, have all had a clunker or two. i much prefer Dr. Dog live to their records too, fwiw.

uh, yes. that's sort of a silly question imo. had no clue what they looked like prior to hearing them, or even before the first time i saw them. again... you can claim all the stuff about press, etc. but what about those of us who were listening to the 2006 Demos in late '07 and then when the Sun Giant EP leaked winter '07/08? clearly we all weren't swayed by the press/hype. was the hype maybe overblown after the album was released in June? i guess... but it was in my top 3 on the year, so i personally would say most of the press is warranted (esp. their live show). and i'm also a HUGE HU

fine. it's just that we've discussed this band a THOUSAND TIMES OVER the past 18 months, and if you're just now gonna come drop into this thread (which has absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH FLEET FOXES) and drop a stink bomb, that's lame and borderline trolling imo, sorry. so what i'm trying to say is, good for you, you don't like Fleet Foxes, tons of fucking people on here do, tons of other people do, we're not going to change your mind, nor vice versa, so what is your point even? especially in a thread about VW... and to say anyone who likes Fleet Foxes is just jumping on some bandwagon
-
song is pretty lame imo
-
i actually know TONS of people who didn't care one bit about them until Kid A
-
yeah... Pearl Jam fans are retarded for the most part. one of the reasons my interest level has diminished over the last decade Bad Religion opened in Casper when i saw them as well, kicked ass

if only to hear all the other non D&D songs solo acoustic, yeah
