i don't think he's scored anything, but he did contribute songs to an indie film a few years ago, that's how he and Zooey got hooked up, with their cover of that Linda & Richard Thompson song. but yeah... he and Andrew Bird could probably quit making records and make a killing just doing films.

yup... brilliant producer, way underrated if i was forced at gunpoint to pick a least favorite song... i'd choose Shangri-La Matt needs to do a full on instrumental record some day... i'd kill for more shit like Outro

i'm divided on it... on one hand when she comes in it's like a fucking ghost or something... but at the same time i don't know how well their voices go together. i'd probably just have preferred that song w/ just him (as he played it down in Austin last year)

well... i think Pfork's review was pretty ridiculous and that score high, but i'd definitely check it out... it's pretty fun/enjoyable, and i've always found them vastly overrated prior.

hmm... at least some rockers on here, was starting to worry from the 4 songs that we'd already heard. edit: yeah, i'm liking this a decent bit so far... i'm even enjoying Life Itself in the context of the album!

sometimes not messing with a formula that works is best IMO. that said... i honestly don't think it sounds "virtually the same as the past two records". i'll admit i'm biased, as Matt is my favorite solo artist of the '00's, but i still will call a turd a turd when i hear it.

saw The Wrestler last Wed... it's pretty f'n awesome def one of the better films i've seen in the last year

yeah... not to mention just the overall positive and uplifting vibe of the record (for the most part) after 9/11 certainly didn't hurt my enjoyment of it either... a few of those songs from The Rising are still some of their best live songs as of late too

i can't stand Life Itself, sorry. Bruce's voice on it pains me. but honestly i quite liked The Rising... maybe only 2-3 songs on there i don't like. City of Ruins is one of my all time fave Bruce songs too (the studio version isn't nearly as great as the 9/11 tribute one however) and there were 4-5 really good songs on Magic. i guess that's all that i can hope for, is at least 3-4 very good songs, since we'll be hearing them plenty on tour.

Keep Me In Mind is the one song that sounds like it could have def been a Strokes outtake. kind of amusing how much they've been doing outside of their actual regular band... even Nikolai just put out a solo record under the name "Nickel Eye"

initially people told me it sounded like a sunnier and poppier Strokes, which you can definitely hear on 1-2 songs, but that comparison isn't very valid for the record as a whole at all.

ah... weird. can't say i've ever found any similarities between Andrew & Thom's voice (and for me that's a good thing ) *shrug*
