yeah... i'd say this will end up more like the Flaming Lips/Cat Stevens deal... which was pretty obvious, if unintentional f'n love that movie
-
alright... i didn't really hear it listening to them seperately, but here they are layered on top of each other: definitely sounds like some melody borrowing going on in spots, but it's not even close to a flat out copy or warranting of a lawsuit...
-
yeah... regardless of your thoughts, these guys were def the cream of the crop back then... Vai, Satch, Eric Johnson, Paul Gilbert, etc. (i never liked Yngwie and didn't know anyone who did... thought he was a joke even back then)
-
oh i like the EP, don't get me wrong... but from the live versions of Blood Bank, and the other 2-3 new songs he's been playing, i expected a much more rousing fuller and psychedelic sound on these tracks is all they're good, just that only Blood Bank is up there w/ the tracks on For Emma in terms of quality for me. in fact i like the track Wisconsin more than the other 3 songs on the EP. that's very possible... there was talk about the EP in July, so these could actually be from this past summer/spring even.

yeah, i stopped listening to guys like Satch around '92-93. that said, even though i don't listen to them anymore, i know the enjoyment i got out of a handful of those players and records, and even still love "Always With You, Always With Me" to this day, so i could never write them off completely. oh for sure... not denying that, or that Vai talking about him didn't help (heck, even Wikipedia agrees! ) just saying that Satriani had a bit of buzz going on his own

hmm... as a fledging guitarist in the late 80's/early 90's myself, i got into Steve's music with Flying In A Blue Dream, then revisited Surfing With The Alien, all before hearing Steve Vai (my first exposure was seeing him play with Whitesnake in 1989, then his Passion & Warfare record the next year). i was a pretty avid guitar mag reader too, so maybe i just missed the boat and got into them in opposite order of most, idk as a guitarist, while he doesn't have the feel of say a Neil Young, i don't think i'd go as far to say that he's "all notes" either, especially if you're not familiar

gotta be honest... am a little disappointed by the EP... it's good, but the studio version of Blood Bank isn't nearly as powerful or emotional as the live versions they've been playing. the other songs are interesting, but definite b-side/EP material (especially the last track)

Satch ruled up until The Extremeist... he's sucked and been pretty f'n lame since
-
my vinyl copy and 10" EP & 7" singles came today.. weee
-
lol... fair enough, AAA is a pretty broad term imo, some AAA stations are great, some suck
-
potential AOY '09 fuck yeah. Doves are my favorite UK act of the '00's bar none
-
there was def some crossover from JAMC to the Pixies (even besides the obvious cover of Head on the Pixies did) back in the day, so it's pretty interesting how much this song meshes both bands
-
sounds like Jesus & Mary Chain marries The Pixies... i'm in love with this new song
-
The Breeders!!!
-
i dunno... he gets played ALL the time on the AAA station here already (89.3 The Current)
-
kinda like the Killers... nothing special honestly don't really hear The Killers at all (have you heard their abysmal new album? it sounds like Hall & Oats) not saying these guys are re-inventing the wheel or are amazing (yet)... it's just no frills textbook rock played extremely well, which i realize is boring to some it's very American music, i'll give you that, but i'd argue this album is way more interesting, exciting and sincere than the latest Kings of Leon, yet they get way more press (especially outside of the US) for their age (mid 20's) they have a lot of promise imo. wil

hah, yeah, apparently i've forgotten that much about it i can't even recall the name right 4-5 great songs on that one, about it. i actually quite like this new one a lot save for 3 songs, but it doesn't touch Dirty South, Decoration, or SRO
-
i still think their latest blows away Blessed at least... but yeah, while it's still a very good show these days, it's not the same or nearly as enjoyable for me w/o Jason, since he was my fave singer, guitar player, and songwriter. and yeah, ixnay the spoken word shiz
-
hmm.... can't say i hear that at all, but i love the National, so fine by me
-
i've always thought a Built To Spill & Wilco joint tour would be amazing
-
Low are definitely a fantastic band, but i can see not being a great fit for opening for Wilco (then again they opened for Radiohead in Europe at the request of Thom personally)
-
but after shipping it's over $30
-
i'd guess all CIMS stores will get it, dunno after that
-
yeah... i'll get the deluxe at my local indie store and if i can score it for like $20 or under, eventually i'll get the LP
