  1. Aside from me not liking the way they sounded, there was some deal about that guitar when you could flip the bridge or something and change the tuning. It made trying to learn those songs on guitar impossible (me being awful at guitar didn't help either).
  2. That's one of the songs he used that godawful Stienway guitar on...yuck. Almost as bad as the synthesizer. edit: it's not a stienway...but it's a stien-something. That dopey looking guitar without the headstock.
  3. That's pretty brilliant. Too bad he looks like an ugly East German girl.
  4. It's the sythesizer. Awful. P.S. "Jump" is awful too. "And the Cradle Will Rock" isn't awful though, but I think that might be an organ run through a distortion pedal and not a sythesizer.
  5. You'll get no argument from me that Sammy is the more musically talented of the two. Steve Vai is also a much better guitar player than Ralph Macchio, but we both know who won that battle.
  6. That's the song that pops into my head every time I think about Hagar-era Van Halen (well, that and "Poundcake"). What a shitty, shitty song that is. And I didn't have MTV then, but wasn't there a Top Gun-esque video with the Blue Angels or something? Awful. I'd much rather see and old, balding DLR struggle to sing "Unchained" while doing bad karate kicks. Like Paul Weller used to say, THAT'S entertainment.
  7. I kinda liked a few tunes on 5150, but honestly they would have been a more interesting band to me had they gotten Patty Smythe to join like they had talked about.
  8. I've never seen DLR-era Van Halen live, so I can only go based on the records. For me, the early ones are fun to listen to and the stuff with Hagar, for the most part, is lame and bores me. I also don't like the Bewitched episodes with the second Darren.
  9. I heartily endorse the Love and Otis Redding suggestions.
  10. I've still got a bunch of the SV 7"s...they used to get a lot of good bands to participate (like the awesome and underrated Doc Hopper). I think that 'zine is still going strong, although he tends to cover a lot more straight up hardcore now which kinda bores me. The other great regional zine that's still going strong is Jersey Beat.
  11. It's pretty classy how they deleted Michael Anthony's image from the s/t album cover on the website (it is on the upper right and left hand side of the main page). I wonder if they'll pull an Ozzy and rerelease those albums with overdubbed bass parts/backing vocals?
  12. You know what magazine I really miss? Flipside.
  13. I doubt I'd walk around wearing a Teenage Head t-shirt or anything, but yeah, that first album is pretty good and fun to listen to every once in a while. Mr. K - they sound kinda like a more Chuck Berry-style rock n roll version of the Ramones, if that makes sense.
  14. This is a great bit, btw.
  15. You don't seem to like Rolling Stone very much. You shouldn't renew your subscription.
  16. You're pretty annoying, dude. I know, because I am too and I can spot my own kind.
  17. I can't think of one I like better.
