Welcome to our fair city! THIS THREAD should have most of the stuff you're looking for, as far as things to do and whatnot. Also, for great restaurant suggestions, you need to start watching THIS SHOW. Every Sunday night. I love it. Good luck with the move.

STP gone all Cheap Trick on us. And I like it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spNu5jcw8xA (Although I could do without all the Axl Rose dance moves.)

Usually WXRT in Chicago does some semi-elaborate hoax for April Fool's, but I didn't listen enough to catch anything this year. Did they do anything?

And there is another one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W97WncJaBhE

"Someday, Someway" is on the short list of perfect power pop songs. Perfect.

I don't remember the mental state thing from my conversation with him, but I do remember a very, very, VERY thick Brooklyn accent. (Or was it Bronx?) Either way it was tough to understand him, at times. But yeah, I guess that he seemed a little distant, or at least defensive. Still, a good interview. And an insanely great guitar player. (As Ficca is a much better drummer than he gets credit for.)

The reason that i bought it in the first place it because I interviewed Lloyd back in 1992, and he told me (parts of) the story that he gets into more deeply in the liner notes; about getting decked by Hendrix one drunken night. I saw it as fate, that I must own this record. That said, it's solid. At first listen, it sounded a little too close to the originals -- some of his vocal inflections and whatnot. But, on a second listen, I think that I'm digging it more. Of course, the guitar playing is phenomenal. But, well, just I think it's a grower. If you have any interest in it at all, it's wo

PopTodd replied to Queen Amaranthine's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
The Pogues, The Pogues, and The Pogues. Also, there is a PBS special on "The Pubs of Dublin", featuring Frank McCourt that is particularly wonderful, if you have a chance to catch it. Amazon link -
He is a great songwriter, but I think that even more overlooked than that, is the fact that he is a great guitar player, too. The guy can just flat-out PLAY.

How did Daniel Lanois get Neil Diamond to pose for his album cover?
-
Are the Cubs out of it yet?

A caveat on that RR debut: it was produced by Daniel Lanois and released in the late 1980's. Therefore, it SOUNDS like a Daniel Lanois-produced late-80's record. His fingerprints are all over that fucker, so make sure that you like that sound... with the atmospheric, droning synths, chiming guitars, and tons of reverb (think Joshua Tree). For me, the songs are good, but the production takes it down more than a few notches, as it's just so intrusive.

Just watched this last night: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77ZmpOCqkOA Had to bring Double Nickels with me to work today. So great. And that movie gave me a whole new/different appreciation of the band than I had before. So fucking great, in so many different ways.
