  3. Kinda. She was the singer on Arrested Development's hit "Tennessee".
  4. In the past couple of years this has happened to me a couple of times: "Teach Your Children" by CSNY: Nailed me emotionally like it never had before, as I was finally really hearing it from a parent's point of view. I got it in a whole new way. "Lola" by The Kinks: Blindsided me as, after all these years, hearing it so many dozens upon hundreds of times, the incredible songcraft -- the subtlety of Ray's wordplay and the incredible melody broke through the mental callouses formed by so many years of overplay. It was like a whole new song. Today, it was: "La Grange" by ZZ Top: Of course,

  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YH0CnjXqCLE Oh, and the upbeat songs, live... are a dervish. Amazing.
  7. OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW One of the best live bands that I have seen in a long time. Really, really great. Strongly suggest that, if you have interest in bluegrass/newgrass/whatever, you RUN to get tickets to see them when they come to town. Closest thing to a Dead show that I have seen since seeing the Dead, themselves. Only much higher-energy. Everybody dancing everywhere. Also, Dolly Parton put out a pretty great bluegrass record a few years ago (1999) called The Grass is Blue. As unoriginal as the album title is, Dolly does not disappoint. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNj5P6SpdRo
  8. Maybe the best cover ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQZNkzP4kYw (And it works as an "incongrous" one, too. Sly doing Doris Day?!?!)
  9. Here are a couple of good ones from Linus of Hollywood: "Need You Around" (Smoking Popes) "Goodbye to Romance" (Ozzy Osbourne)
  10. Another Bangles cover. Bangles do Emitt Rhodes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADGCSZaSIFk And I love BF so very much. I am checking out that video now, Crow Daddy! Thanks! EDIT: Awesome.
  11. I really wish that some other folks would cover other Bobby Fuller songs, too. He has so, so many great tunes that are BEGGING to be covered. And how about this one, played the way that it always was meant to be played: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFRx4PkXeVM
  12. Couldn't find the studio version of this one. But that hardly matters, as they are one of the best live bands that I have ever seen: Primal Scream does Roky Erickson: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaUTRD8vx-A
  13. Breeders do Beatles http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lo5iSQ_ff88
  14. How about ANOTHER "Waterloo Sunset"? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7-TbC_Pr-4
  15. I'm not being defensive! YOU'RE BEING DEFENSIVE!!! I'LL SHOW YOU DEFENSIVE!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uABnKRPHMVk
  16. Okee-dokee. I'll repost just the names of the good ones that I posted from the other thread here and then find you some more cool ones: Toots & The Maytalls - "Take Me Home Country Road" (John Denver) Richard Hell & The Voidoids - "All the Way" (Frank Sinatra) Hüsker Dü - "Love is All Around" (Mary Tyler Moore theme) Dwight Yoakam - "I Want You to Want Me" (Cheap Trick) I'll find some more good ones.
  17. Richard Hell does Frank Sinatra http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4UnXauxSOw
  18. A lot of those incongruous covers ARE cool! Like this one that I just posted in that other thread simultaneously to you posting this thread: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22hgDjUB8EM&feature=related

  20. Absolutely nothing against the TDN version at all. Just saying that their version is a lot better-known than the Nilsson original. And a lot less connected to the things that Aimee Mann usually does, musically. And, if one (pardon the unintentional pun) does not know the Nilsson version, which most folks don't, it seems quite incongruous.
