  1. I've sung the praises of Saadiq's last record, The Way I See It around here for a while now. It was one of the best albums of the last decade, a slab of classic soul/rnb with, with just a cleaner production to give away its release date. (And one misstep -- an ill-advised guest shot from Jay-Z.) Still, a beast of a record, so I am really excited for this one! From Amazon: Want it. Pre-ordering.
  2. Just arrived: Brave Captain - Nothing Lives Long, He Sang, Only the Earth and the Mountains First (second?) solo album from Martin Carr of the Boo Radleys. First listen. It ain't the Boos, but as it went on, I began digging it more and more. Might be a grower.
  3. Was just thinking about this band on another board. So, I remembered this thread and decided to bump it. Just in case, you know. Damn, this is an old thread.
  4. I have a couple of things from Bear Family that I am really digging: a couple of Jim Ford comps and a Ronnie Self comp. Really, really good stuff, with pretty good sound and nice liner notes that give me a lot of info without overkill.
  5. So then, you're saying that I fell for it? Guess you're right -- initially. But I usually dig deeper, and this was an initial, first reaction. Just saying that he is good at fooling my bullshit detector. And, who says that NPR is a strictly "Liberal" media outlet?
  6. This post made me really, really happy. So glad that you were able to score tix, shoes.
  7. Just heard INDIANA gov. Mitch Daniels on NPR this morning talking about the issues in his state and his thought processes behind it all. And, I have to say, the guy makes sense. I don't agree with a lot of what he said, but at least he comes off as sane and knowledgeable about the issues. This is a guy that I would listen to. This appears to be a guy that seems to be open to reasonable debate. Whether he is or not, is another matter. But I can see this guy making a serious run at the presidency in '12. And, as a lifelong Democrat (and child of the labor unions), I am willing to hear him out. T
  8. I love both of them as actors and I was really looking forward to loving both of them as hosts. Sadly, you are correct (from what I saw of the show); they were terrible hosts. I think if you're gonna use a Freaks & Geeks alum, Seth Rogen would have been a more-solid choice for something like this.
  9. Schwarz is one of the great, underrated guitar players. And I agree with the assertion that the Femmes are UNDERrated, not overrated. Their first 4 albums were all packed with freaking great songs, if not all-out classics like the first album was.
  10. Oh yeah. I saw Drivin' n Cryin' back in 1989 (opening for Living Colour). Great band.
  11. And here's one that falls into that same category as the Rodrigo y Gabriella tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPzZYDrA2v0
  12. Likewise Rodrigo y Gabriella's Metallica cover isn't "incongruous" when you consider that they two of them started playing music together in a death metal band. By the same token, I mean. But let's not get into a pissing match. There's some cool stuff in this thread.
  13. I just remembered this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFyy3XB_3Y4 Love it. And, there's another Nina Gordon-related one that you reminded me of. Let me go grab it. Somebody post something, so that I'll be able to put the video in another post, please.
  14. That's just wrong. They have so many great songs. But then again, it was a Blues Traveler show.
  15. The Replacements (twice) -- once in '89 and again at their last-ever show in Grant Park on July 4, 1991, when they broke up on-stage. I'm sure somebody else here had to be at that show, too.
  16. Now, I just got an email from Lin Brehmer (morning DJ at WXRT). He is going to answer my question tomorrow on his Lin's Bin segment. 7:15 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. CST LINK If you miss the broadcast, they do put up the streaming audio at the above link.
  17. Their first album together in a decade and this is what AMG said: I mean, damn. Any of you have this? Just looking for opinions/discussion and not links. I've become a pretty big fan of their 1979 debut and I will buy this thing soon. I just want to know what you all think of it, if anything.
  18. No, because we have laws on the books that assure good working conditions. We did need them to get those laws passed. Even considered. The right to organize is pretty essential to maintain those rights in the long run. As long as there's profit to be made, corporations will find a way to maximize that profit, rolling back one law -- one worker protection at a time.
