  1. This post made me really, really happy. So glad that you were able to score tix, shoes.
  2. Just heard INDIANA gov. Mitch Daniels on NPR this morning talking about the issues in his state and his thought processes behind it all. And, I have to say, the guy makes sense. I don't agree with a lot of what he said, but at least he comes off as sane and knowledgeable about the issues. This is a guy that I would listen to. This appears to be a guy that seems to be open to reasonable debate. Whether he is or not, is another matter. But I can see this guy making a serious run at the presidency in '12. And, as a lifelong Democrat (and child of the labor unions), I am willing to hear him out. T
  3. I love both of them as actors and I was really looking forward to loving both of them as hosts. Sadly, you are correct (from what I saw of the show); they were terrible hosts. I think if you're gonna use a Freaks & Geeks alum, Seth Rogen would have been a more-solid choice for something like this.
  4. Schwarz is one of the great, underrated guitar players. And I agree with the assertion that the Femmes are UNDERrated, not overrated. Their first 4 albums were all packed with freaking great songs, if not all-out classics like the first album was.
  5. Oh yeah. I saw Drivin' n Cryin' back in 1989 (opening for Living Colour). Great band.
  6. And here's one that falls into that same category as the Rodrigo y Gabriella tune: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPzZYDrA2v0
  7. Likewise Rodrigo y Gabriella's Metallica cover isn't "incongruous" when you consider that they two of them started playing music together in a death metal band. By the same token, I mean. But let's not get into a pissing match. There's some cool stuff in this thread.
  8. I just remembered this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFyy3XB_3Y4 Love it. And, there's another Nina Gordon-related one that you reminded me of. Let me go grab it. Somebody post something, so that I'll be able to put the video in another post, please.
  9. That's just wrong. They have so many great songs. But then again, it was a Blues Traveler show.
  10. The Replacements (twice) -- once in '89 and again at their last-ever show in Grant Park on July 4, 1991, when they broke up on-stage. I'm sure somebody else here had to be at that show, too.
  11. Now, I just got an email from Lin Brehmer (morning DJ at WXRT). He is going to answer my question tomorrow on his Lin's Bin segment. 7:15 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. CST LINK If you miss the broadcast, they do put up the streaming audio at the above link.
  12. Their first album together in a decade and this is what AMG said: I mean, damn. Any of you have this? Just looking for opinions/discussion and not links. I've become a pretty big fan of their 1979 debut and I will buy this thing soon. I just want to know what you all think of it, if anything.
  13. No, because we have laws on the books that assure good working conditions. We did need them to get those laws passed. Even considered. The right to organize is pretty essential to maintain those rights in the long run. As long as there's profit to be made, corporations will find a way to maximize that profit, rolling back one law -- one worker protection at a time.
  14. Country is moving backwards; taking away rights in the name of fiscal responsibility. People say that with the unions, we can't compete with China, Korea, and India. But, do we want our laborers to work in and live in the same conditions as they do over there? This shit depresses me. Where are we headed?
  15. Had that Omegang chocolate stout the other day and it was surprisingly drinkable for a 7% ABV brew. Tasty, to be sure. But, of course, "drinkable" can also be used as another word for "there isn't much to it." Sadly, this was the case. I mean, it was enjoyable, but if you are looking for something to get lost in, like a really good Trappist, this is not your beer. And for the price, it's certainly not bringing bang for the buck. Unless it was all just too subtle for me to catch. It had a very foamy head that did not dissipate... ever, which was nice, but it wasn't as thick as the head on a s
  16. Kid-friendly sketch comedy by a troupe called Barrel of Monkeys. And not only is it funny, but it's EDUCATIONAL, fer chrissakes! http://www.barrelofmonkeys.org/performances/ My wife and I laughed our asses off; so did our kids. Seriously one of the best times you can have in the city of Chicago that does not involve sex, booze, drugs, or any combination therof. In fact, it's better than a lot of things that you can do that DOES involve lots of those things. Go. Seriously. Especially if you have kids.
  17. Thank you for the snark removal. And that is a very cool Snoop Dogg cover, too. That is what this thread is all about! Nice!
  18. Oh yeah, I saw Archers of Loaf on the All the Nations Airports tour. At Lounge Ax in Chicago. They put on a really good show.
  19. Great one, Richard! I heard the Britney version recently and I didn't even turn it off, because I was thinking of this one the whole time. Gave me a new appreciation for what a well-written, hooky song it is. Glad to have heard it performed by somebody with a different sensibility.
