  1. Okay, so I checked their Facebook page and they have a free DL there of their tune "Fuckarias". I'm listening now and it's pretty cool. LINK
  2. It's rare that AllMusic bestows 4.5 stars upon a new release from a relatively new artist. So, when I saw this album listed on the front page, with a 4.5-star denomination, I had to read the review. Here is what it said: So I now come to you, VC for your musical wisdom and insight. Have any of you heard this thing? I did a search and came up empty, so forgive me if you have already posted something. But this sounds really good and I wanna know what y'all think. (Heard a couple of :30 clips at AMG and thought that it could go either way.) Thanks!
  3. Reading my paper today, I came across this note (taken out as a full-page ad) by the recently released Bears DT. Class act.
  4. Covering the (original) Nilsson version makes sense, yes. But for those who only know the song via Three Dog Night, I think that it makes a lot less sense. I think that she completely nails it. It was just not something that I would have heard her playing, I guess.
  5. Aimee Mann - "One" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5DHquP1HWU (No, that's not Aimee in the video, it's a fan video. But that is Aimee singing -- from the For the Love of Harry Nilsson tribute album.)

  7. There are so many Weezer songs that I cannot listen to because their lyrics are so freaking terrible. I don't know that I've ever heard the one that you posted, but it may very well suck too badly for me to listen to.
  8. Didn't grab anything on my way out the door this morning, so I'm, listening to stuff that's already on my iTunes and am going to update as the day goes on. and... Brinsley Schwarz - Rarities

  10. Check out this video of Raphael playing acoustic at the NPR studios as part of their "Tiny Desk" series: SAADIQ on NPR Damn!
  11. I was having a conversation with a friend on Facebook about Luna and the lyric from "Sideshow by the Seashore" came up: "You're out all night, chasing girlies You're late to work, and you go home earlies" I mean, that is BAD. But he somehow makes it work, in context. Anything that you can think of similar-like?
  12. Listening to Good News for Modern Man right now and just hoping that he doesn't wait another 10 freaking years before putting out another record, damnit. I think that Grant's solo stuff is just as good as Bob's, and more consistently good. (Maybe that's partially due to the 10-yr. layoffs, but I could still do with another shot of Grant songs a lot sooner.) Love ya, Grant and glad to hear that you're doing okay!
  13. I've sung the praises of Saadiq's last record, The Way I See It around here for a while now. It was one of the best albums of the last decade, a slab of classic soul/rnb with, with just a cleaner production to give away its release date. (And one misstep -- an ill-advised guest shot from Jay-Z.) Still, a beast of a record, so I am really excited for this one! From Amazon: Want it. Pre-ordering.
  14. Just arrived: Brave Captain - Nothing Lives Long, He Sang, Only the Earth and the Mountains First (second?) solo album from Martin Carr of the Boo Radleys. First listen. It ain't the Boos, but as it went on, I began digging it more and more. Might be a grower.
  15. Was just thinking about this band on another board. So, I remembered this thread and decided to bump it. Just in case, you know. Damn, this is an old thread.
  16. I have a couple of things from Bear Family that I am really digging: a couple of Jim Ford comps and a Ronnie Self comp. Really, really good stuff, with pretty good sound and nice liner notes that give me a lot of info without overkill.
  17. So then, you're saying that I fell for it? Guess you're right -- initially. But I usually dig deeper, and this was an initial, first reaction. Just saying that he is good at fooling my bullshit detector. And, who says that NPR is a strictly "Liberal" media outlet?
