  1. Yep. That was my 8-year-old's favorite thing in there.
  2. Picked this up with a Best Buy gift card, and pulled the trigger (mostly) because of the descriptions on the sticker and the album cover.
  3. "Political Song for Michael Jackson to Sing" - Minutemen
  4. I did not expect to see this suit in the Country Music Hall Of Fame: A very pleasant and very extra-cool surprise.
  5. Talking first AND last names... in song TITLES. So, your last two don't really apply here. But, I love Judas Priest, so that Sun Kil Moon title is appreciated!
  6. Just put together a mix with this theme, if anyone is interested. 7. "Barry Bonds" - Kanye West "Ana Ng" - They Might Be Giants "Ella James" - The Move "Peggy Day" - Bob Dylan "Graham Greene" - John Cale "Sally MacLennane" - The Pogues
  8. This one is a little weird, but there ARE songs out there that reference specific people in the title, by both first and last name. Of course, they are usually famous people. But it doesn't even have to be anyone that really exists. (Although Santa Claus and Jesus Christ should probably be eliminated from consideration here.) Here are a few that I can think of: "Living With Victoria Grey" - Martin Newell "Illya Kuriakin Looked At Me" - Martin Newell "David Bowie Needs Ideas" - Bongwater "Just Like Jesse James" - Van Morrison "Ruby Soho" - Rancid "Caroline Wheeler's Birthday Present" - The Ja
  9. Tom Zé - 1998(?): At the encore, this 65-year-old man, who had already been hopping around the stage for almost 2 hours, wheeled out a 15-ft. industrial saw, donned a welding mask and started rhythmically sawing away at a piece of sheet metal. His band (consisting mostly of members of Tortise) then improvised an instrumental around the rhythm, as he continued sawing, directed like a conductor, and sparks flew all over the stage at the Park West. Super Furry Animals - 1997: As the band played "The Man Don't Give a Fuck"... the shoulder-to-shoulder crowd at Lounge Ax began undulating as one gi
  10. I have news for you: This is one of the oldest, UN-"hip"-est group of hipsters on the internet. And I think that is a good thing: none of us are out to impress anybody else on here with how much we know or what obscure band we are into. We like what we like and we like to talk about it... passionately. Sure, there will be some choices here and there that will raise an eyebrow or two. And, yes, there will be those purposefully obscure choices that you mention; but not so much as I think you will see on other message boards. You are a music geek. You make lists; face it. Now, please share with

  12. He and his friend wound up dealing with middle-school hecklers (apparently, quite well), and making $7 — enough for ice cream for each of them. They were out there about 1-1/2 hours. WORK IT!!!
  13. Beau Brummels - Just a Little Fishbone - Truth & Soul Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run Brinsley Schwarz - Nervous On the Road/The New Favourites...
  14. One day home from vacation and now my 10-year-old and his best friend are on their way to our suburban downtown to busk. He's playing guitar and his buddy is playing a small drum kit. They don't even know any songs! Nor have they ever rehearsed. We'll see how this goes... (hopefully they'll just have fun.)
  15. Billy Bremner - Loud Music In Cars
  16. Just an FYI, if any of y'all want to listen to the stream at: http://wluw.org It's on The Razor and Die Show. I go on at 3:00 p.m. CDT, and I think I'll be featured/playing/interviewed for that hour. I'll probably bump this again on Thursday again. (Or post a brand-new thread, forgetting that I already posted this one!) But just giving the heads-up now.
  17. Hey! I was trying to post some video in one forum, and images in another and it told me that I was posting too many. Is one too many? Does the board track how many videos/pictures that I post over the entire history of my posting here? Is there an all-time limitation? Bummer.
  18. Bobby Fuller Four - I Fought the Law or even... Bobby Fuller Four - Let Her Dance (Now a good choice because of its inclusion in the movie The Fantastic Mr. Fox. God bless Wes Anderson and his great taste in music!)
  19. You Am I - Deliverance Erykah Badu - New Amerykah Part Two Suede - Coming Up Roky Erickson & Okkervil River - True Love Cast Out All Evil Dogbowl - Flan
  20. I was coming here to post about The Ramones. They were one of my kids' favorite bands when they were around 4 and 5. It really is perfect music for kids that age: great melodies, high energy, simple structures. Just great rock 'n roll, really. Although, I don't think that your wife would appreciate you teaching your kid songs like "Now I Wanna Sniff Some Glue", "I Wanna Be Sedated", or "Beat On the Brat". So... be careful!
  21. Okay, so not Pollard, per se... But, this is the best TOBIN SPROUT song of the GBV years. And, sadly, it never made it onto any of their albums, just an EP" Listen and love...
