  1. Wings - Band on the Run And I cannot even say that about any Beatles record.
  2. Today, I still have the You Am I and McCartney albums left over from yesterday, plus: Caetano Veloso - Caetano Veloso (Tropicália) Jimmy Cliff - Jimmy Cliff
  3. Don't say that! I'm excIted to see them!
  4. Freaking PERFECT! What makes it even more amazing, is that this is a perfect TWO-FER! Two albums in one, with not a bad song, and perfect sequencing.
  5. Just pre ordered. And the first single is available for free download at Pitchfork. Just about to give it a listen.
  6. Just arrived in the mail. It has 7 bonus tracks, but I don't believe it to be an actual "Deluxe" edition. Still... looking forward to this!
  7. It's starting... I am now officially digging this. There are some songs that I am digging more than others... the ones that go lighter on the vocoder and disco beats are the ones that I am enjoying more, but even those are starting to sink their hooks into me. Give it another few listens and see what happens.
  8. Kinda... yeah. Although I like the band enough to continue to spin this one for a while longer and give it a chance to sink in and grow on me.
  9. Kinky - Kinky Danger Doom - The Mouse & The Mask The Apples In Stereo - Travellers In Space and Time Wings - Band on the Run You Am I - Deliverance
  10. Just bought my tickets to see them at the Empty Bottle (Chicago) on 7/17. At 40, am I gonna be the grandpa of the room?
  11. Im almost there with you, except.... "Don't Stop" is a pointless waste of space on an otherwise perfect album.
  12. John Cale - Paris, 1919 Brian Eno - Another Green World
  13. Oh, there is no way that he is phoning it in; I just don't need to hear another 12- bar about unrequited love. And this one goes on way too long at 6:55. Maybe if it were closer to the 4- or 5-minute mark it wouldn't stop the momentum of the album for me. But... nearly 7 minutes? For well-tread ground like this it's just too long, no matter how passionate the playing and singing. And, again, that's just me. The rest of the album is perfect (even... especially the 7-plus minute title track).
  14. Okay, so I listened to Layla, and.... it's NOT perfect. "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" pretty much ruins the perfection. It's a straight-up/cliché 12-bar blues that just goes on too damn long. Without that song, though, it would be perfect.
  15. I really don't have anything to say about it, except that I love this music. And I thought that there should be a place around here that is dedicated to this group of artists... rocksteady and Rude Boy and whatnot. My favorite albums of the genre (and really the only ones that I know at all: Plus I know a couple of Desmond Dekker songs here and there. But I know that there is some interest around here so therefore... let's see if we can get any chatter going around here. EDIT: And, I just bought this on Amazon: Looking forward to hearing it.
  16. Except maybe "Why Does Love Have to Be So Sad?", "Keep On Growing", "Tell the Truth", or "Anyday". DAMN! What an album!
  17. Here's to you, Pete: ...wherever you are now. RIP.
  18. I'm also trying to think of a flaw with: Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs but I can't think of one, off-hand. Probably the only Clapton album that I can still listen to, but what a helluva album! I've brought it with me today and will give the final verdict (my final verdict) on whether or not it is actually without flaw.
  19. Not sure. But if you find one, could you share?
  20. Ray Davies (with Yo La Tengo) - Jane Street Theater, Aug.25th, 2000 Boo Radleys - Giant Steps Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance Derek & The Dominoes - Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs
  21. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run De La Soul - 3 Ft. High & Rising
  22. I can't say what you're "missing' in it; you just don't like it. As for what hit me so hard, and why it's so perfect all the way through: The melodies are nothing short of miraculous... and the consistent feel that the band (Brian) maintains throughout, from beginning to end, very simply sucks me in and won't let me go until the final note has faded. Plus, (and this is a rarity for a Beach Boys album) the lyrics actually strike a chord with me. Yes, they are simple and straightforward.. anti-poetry, perhaps. But, the way these straightforward, even simplistic stories are communicated, is just
