I will absolutely check it out today; I love hearing the musical things that the folks at the board are up to. Thanks for the link!

It was (and as far as I know, has still been) released on 7" vinyl, ONLY. I have a copy, but no means with which to transfer it to digital. Does anybody here have it in electronic format? Could anybody do me a solid with this? It has my favorite Toby song ("Dodging Invisible Rays"), and I would like to hear that again. Thanks!

Just arrived!:

Oh yeah, and the best ever: The Pogues (Shane MacGowan) with Kirsty MacColl - "A Fairytale of New York" Winston is dead on it with that one. And I would definitely say that it counts as a duet; it's a classic example.
-
Anything with Gram and Emmylou, really. But, in particular: "We'll Sweep Out the Ashes in the Morning"
-
Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs Leadbelly - Where Did You Sleep Last Night? Roky Erickson - Don't Slander Me

Holy nonsequiter! I had no idea that they were relations. RIP, Soupy.

Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co. Sloan - One Chord to Another Los Lobos - La Pistola y El Corazón Parliament - Up For the Down Stroke The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man

Damn. No streaming audio there. I'll have to dig a little to find some. Thanks, Louie! I'm still thinking about covering it.
-
At least to the best of your knowledge. The one that, IMO is begging to be covered is: Thin Lizzy - "Running Back" It's just perfect is so many ways, but I can still hear some other band doing a great job with it. Hell, I have half a mind to do it, myself. It would be a lot of fun to sing and play.

I've seen him twice -- and he is really freaking intense; just as you would expect him to be. Of course, both times I saw him it was solo/acoustic, and he still blew everybody back about 40 feet -- just like one of those Maxell tape ads with the dude sitting in the chair.

Got "Hallelujah" on there. Thanks, Louie.

This is damn good. And a helluva set list, too. (Check out those last 5 songs!) 01. The Act We Act 02. A Good Idea 03. I Hate Alternative Rock 04. See A Little Light 05. Hoover Dam 06. Circles 07. Paralyzed 08. I Apologize 09. Chartered Trips 10. Celebrated Summer 11. Makes No Sense At All 12. New Day Rising

"Get Me Away From Here, I'm Dying" (Belle and Sebastian) sort of equates the writing of a great song to reading/writing a great book and/or the dying art of letter writing. Plus, it's a great song.

Looking more for references to somebody sitting alone in a room with their guitar or on the piano, trying to put something on paper. But, that is a good one for song construction, as is -- The Intro & The Outro" by The Bonzo Dog Band (which also won't make it onto this mix). Something like the ones already mentioned, or like "I Write the Songs", except not sucky. But the same type of subject matter.
-
Just added: "Fountains of Wayne Hotline" - Robbie Fulks so brilliant.
-
Ones that are about writing songs, or that refer to the PROCESS of songwriting, or that are metaphors for the songwriting process. I'm thinking about making a mix of such songs. Any suggestions? So far I have: "Major to Minor" - The Settlers "G to D" - Sloan "Love Song" - Brinsley Schwarz "I Love My Label" - Nick Lowe ?
-
The Breeders - "Fortunately Gone"
-
Which reminds me of: "The Way" - Fastball (because they were both popular around the same time.)
-
(As a 13-year-old metalhead, I used to love that record. Now I know better. Although I do still like the Scorps.)
-
Looks like I need to get me some Fred Neil. I'm a huge Nilsson fan, and so it's about time, I guess, eh?
