  1. I think I really started paying attention to the NHL in the late 80s, when games became available on cable. As a kid, the only games that I could get were the local broadcasts of the North Stars. A neighbor of mine was on the 1980 "Miracle" Olympic team, but I remember being way more into H.S. hockey when I was a kid - the MN state tournament was always on TV. As a Red Wings fan, (my father is from Detroit, so I grew up liking his teams) I remember starting to follow the Red Wings when Yzerman made the All-Star game as an 18 year old. That was 84-85 I think? Maybe the year before? I remembe
  2. Sorry - meant playoffs. Starting next year, (until the inevitable re-alignment - nothing stays the same in the NHL for too long) the only possibility for them to meet in the post-season is to meet in the finals. And while the Hawks are good enough to make it to the finals repeatedly in the near future, the Wings are undoubtedly on the decline.
  3. If you have time - check out this Toronto-fan bulletin board. The link starts right around where Toronto scored to make it 4-1. The mood starts elated, and quickly goes down hill. What a collapse! http://www.hockeybuzz.com/boards/thread.php?thread_id=106977&page=50 This Red Wings fan is so happy they get the Blackhawks one last time before the two teams are split into different conferences next year. They won't be playing each other again for a very long time. I'm just happy that I get at least 4 more Wings games to watch this year. Maybe they can steal a couple games, but I expect the
  4. I think the "rejected funding" line has been proven false - at least as it was covered in the hearings so far - I think this was dealt with in one of the initial hearings last fall. IIRC, when they asked the guy in charge of security staffing if the insufficient security was because budgetary constraints, he answered that budget had nothing to do with it.
  5. I found another article that claimed that those improved choppers were merely dentures, and he doesn't like wearing them.
  6. Lovely. I thought he already got them fixed?
  7. Yeah, except the "only a couple burglaries" were committed by "our guys". What crime is being alleged in the Benghazi incident? Oh, there's not one?
  8. Here's a decent Benghazi explainer. http://gawker.com/what-the-fuck-is-all-this-benghazi-shit-an-explainer-499776059
  9. Here are the Fox News talking points. http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/hannity/2013/05/10/giuliani-benghazi-smelled-cover-day-one
  10. The issue isn't about how it happened, right? Isn't the issue trying to uncover a possible cover-up? I mean, embassy attacks are pretty much commonplace over the last 30 years or so, no? How do they happen? Well, our enemies fucking hate us, and have the will and means to attack us, that's how.
  11. Total horseshit. The NHL does it, with a single replay office in Toronto, and it hasn't slowed down any game.
  12. Peter Gammons' take is interesting Basically, umps don't like to reverse their own call, evidence be damned.
  13. What, you got me on a fuckin pay-no-mind list, kid?
  14. That's like taking style and panache over bloat and boring.
  15. Pink Lady apples are the best. Red Delicious apples are the worst.

  17. Well someone is buying the $600 seats, because that's why the ones I found weren't even on the floor. The nice thing is, on ticketmaster, right next to the $600 seats, the Stones are selling the MP3 of their Grrrr album. For only $27.11. Such a deal. Nevermind on Amazon you can get it for less than $20. I guess I'm late to the high-price ticket party. I had no idea. Figured they would be expensive, but I was thinking they would top out at $250. Oh, but let's not forget the hospitality package, which for $2000 per person, also gets you a VIP entrance (someone holds the door for you - obv
  18. Drives me nuts when someone uses "borrow" when they mean "lend." "Hey, can you borrow me your lawnmower?" Borrow isn't akin to giving, it's akin to taking.
  19. Good gravy. I just checked United Center (Chicago) for tickets, and found 2 in section 102 (side section, row 4, seats 9-10) for $622 each!! Who is buying these seats??
  20. What's wrong with Gwen Stefani?
  21. Good lord, if Biden is the Dem nominee in 2016, they have serious problems.
  22. The premise only makes sense if a Dylan album cost $1,000,000. Then, if a Donovan album cost $1, you could say that Donovan is the poor man's Dylan. But since albums all cost the same, there isn't... oh screw it.
