  1. The Barrelhouse Flat is just a block away from where I live. It's great for old-timey classic cocktails, if you don't mind that the bartenders are called "mixologists" there. My wife loves it there though. A little further north on Lincoln is Delilah's - my favorite local. Great punk bar with many many scotch and whiskey options. As for a place close to the Vic, like Louie mentioned - Sheffields is a decent pick - they were one of the first places to serve a variety of microbrews on tap, some 20 years ago. It's about a block north of the Vic.
  2. Have you guys seen this? http://gawker.com/5984470/apparent-meteorite-crash-in-russia-causes-giant-explosions-forces-evacuation-of-nearby-offices-and-schools I'm trying to figure out whether or not the military is really claiming they shot it down...
  3. Catholic Boys... Warren Cuccurullo... kinda young kinda wow. His nude photo career notwithstanding, his time with Missing Persons and Duran Duran makes for an interesting Post-Zappa career on its own.
  4. Alex James, blur bassist, became a cheesemaker. Blessed are the cheesemakers. Grant Young - ex Soul Asylum drummer, purchased a northern Minnesota lake "resort" from my sister, and ran it for several years.
  5. OK, but Rome wasn't built in a day. We have to start somewhere. I'm offering simple models to start to fix the problem of legit firearms ending up in illegit hands. Is it a complete fix? no. Is it a law that law enforcment has asked for to be able to track gun ownership? Yes. Yes it's a new governmental oversight. I do have a problem with that - Government is too big as is. Unenforceable? I don't see why that is - the current car registration scheme is enforceable. A Jart is a lawn dart. Maybe that was the brand name. I remember my family having them when I was a kid. Speaking of in
  6. The regulatory agency would ask Mr Strawman to renew his registration for his legally purchased firearm, much like a car license. He would reply "oh, I don't have it any more, err, um, it was stolen" The regulatory agency would say "you never reported it as stolen, and now you are not able to ever purchase firearms again. License revoked." Boom - one less straw man on the street. You're welcome. I don't know what you're getting at - please explain. Laws change. Cocaine was once legal. Now it's not. I used to be able to buy Jarts. Now I can't. If I owned a gun, and that gun subsequentl
  7. Your missing a rather crucial distinction with the countries you've cited - in all of those, private ownership of guns is outlawed. There's not even a suggestion of a repeal of the 2nd amendment in the US. So are you taking about confiscation of legal or illegal firearms?
  8. You're saying there's more than a 50% chance confiscation would happen?
  9. So, why not require it beyond the first legal sale? Joe Citizen wants to legally sell his gun? Document and track it. Joe Citizen wants to sell it to Mr. Criminal? He'll do time for falsifying forms or for not submitting forms at all. Hard time. *taps nose*
  10. Seems that legislation aimed towards ownership documentation/tracking would aid law enforcement. Currently, it's very easy to track ownership history of an automobile. It's very difficult to track ownership history of a firearm (or so law enforcement agents say it is - I'll take their word for it).
  11. You've mentioned this stat before - you selectively remove handguns from the equation when making this statement. Why is that?
  12. Waco Brothers - Live and Kickin at Schubas.
  13. Meh - they're just boobs, and she's merely a pop star. Nothing to get worked up about. I didn't watch the show. My wife called me into living room shouting "Whoa! Katy Perry's tits are on blast!", and she paused it for me. Nice wife. Good times.
  14. What's the timeframe for releases for a given year's grammys? Black Keys won several for El Camino, but that was released in 2011... Oh, and Katy Perry's boobs.
  15. Season 4 is my favorite. Season 3 is strong too. 1, 3, 4 are the best seasons, IMHO. Then 2 Then 5.
  16. There's a work-around. I get my medication by Fed-Ex or UPS.
  17. My response would be that I don't see daily mail as a vital service. Is it reallly necessary to live? No. So you're either using hyperbole, or I don't appreciate the US Mail as fully as I should.
  18. "US Mail" pops up in lyrics every now and then. Off the top of my head: Dead Flowers - Rolling Stones Born Late '58 - Mott the Hoople I want to say that there's a Rod Stewart song too...
  19. Well then, that's the risk/reward of living in the country. He gets more fresh air than I do, I get more internet.
