  1. I'm a big fan of the original, so I thought I'd give the US version a go. I just finished season 2 last night and that last episode (Michael burns his foot on the Foreman Grill, Dwight gets a concussion on the way to save him) has got to be the funniest half hour I've ever seen!
  2. House of Leaves...I forgot about that one! Sadly, I loaned my full color edition out and never saw it again Ulysses is one that I've started about 10 times but never finished.
  3. I bought this years ago and never got around to reading it. This is what I'll be reading next!
  4. Forgot one: The Magus - John Fowles
  5. I was just thinking about the books that I'll never get tired of. I've read all of these more than 3 times (some of them I've read like 7 or 8 times): Lolita - Nabokov On The Road - Kerouac Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - HS Thompson Breakfast of Champions - Vonnegut London Fields - Martin Amis Steppenwolf - Herman Hesse
  6. Yeah, the first time I "read" it, I mostly skimmed the main parts and paid the most attention to the dialogues (Achilles & Tortoise) and those wonderful Escher drawings. Second time, I read the chapters a little more closely. Third time, it all came together. I think this book is a lot like a record (or at least the way I listen to records).. scan it at first, but keep it on the shelf. Sometime 8 or 10 months from now (or a year, depending on your reading habits...and your bookshelf) it'll hit you. I really think it's $30 well spent. He doesn't call it "the eternal golden braid" for nothin
  7. I completely forgot about Nick Cave. Definately in my top ten of all time list!
  8. I'd add Joe Henry and Colin Meloy to the list. Am I the only one who prefers Waits' later stuff? I love everything from Raindogs to Real Gone, and with the exception of Small Change (and Nighthawks) almost never listen to his earlier records.
  9. Someone recommended this to me, decribing it as "a hoot", and I'm still waiting for it to get interesting.
  10. Thanks, I'll give it a try. His version of Faust sounds interesting too. It seems (from what I've read on imdb) there's a lot of stop motion in his films, which I'm not a big fan of, but I am intrigued by his retelling of fairy tales/Poe/Lewis Carroll.
  11. Anyone here ever seen anything by Jan Svankmajer? Netflix recommends him because I like Werner Herzog, David Lynch, City of Lost Children and Belle de Jour. I was just wondering how his films compare to any of these and suggestions for where to start.
  12. I second "Rum, Sodomy and the Lash". Great album.
  13. I forgot about the Buddy Chronicles...good one!
  14. I've downloaded the El Famous mix, and am enjoying it so much I feel like I owe something. Anyone interested in a Tom Waits or Nick Cave mix? BTW LLCoolF - that mix was a masterpiece. The Doves to Cut Chemist was seamless - very nice.
  15. It's amazing to me how different and innovative PiL was, especially considering John Lydon's previous band.
  16. I really really enjoyed this one.
  17. Something about Tom Waits' Black Rider always reminds me of fall.
  18. The line-up for Hardly Strictly Bluegrass is awesome this year! I'm especially looking forward to Gillian Welch, Drive-By Truckers, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Billy Bragg, Richard Thompson and Emmylou.
  19. Good one! I was just putting together a Tom Waits disc for a fellow VC'er and didin't want to go too heavy on the early stuff, but Ice Cream Man, Frank's Song and So Long I'll See Ya had to be on the mix.
  20. I'm not a Beatles fan by any means...but I wonder what you mean by this?
  21. This new iTunes browse feature is awesome! instead of scrolling down by artist or title, you can now flip through album covers! It's great, something about seeing the album cover makes me want to hear stuff I haven't listened to in a long time (much like this thread).
  22. Good one. I don't listen to this one very often, but it came up on shuffle and I had to hear the whole thing.
