for the band, I'm glad they're getting recognition. for selfish reasons, I wish that if they play Lollapalooza, they'd have to play around noon and I could walk up to the second row even when I got there late (like Son Volt).

I was thinking the exact same thing. Yeah, we get it, and I'm sure the jokes were non-stop backstage, but to the virgins and haters Jeff probably looked like the "pissy artist" he swears he's not in the Sunken Treasure dvd (that or John Lennon with roses). Do I care what those people think of Wilco? Not in the least -- but you know Jeff does. P.S. I would've paid four figures to watch that performance with Jay Farrar (you know, that guy who once told Jeff, "you have no idea what its like to be onstage every night with someone who loves himself as much as you do").

Yes. I also thought Jeff saying "awkward" was........awkward.
-
I feel like I'm in some parallel universe watching that.

That's me in the second pic!! Wait. No, that's Jeff Tweedy. Shit. What a camera-whore.

THAT SOUNDS AWESOME. I'm only 50% serious, but 50% of me is not joking.

the black album.

I don't hate new fans. But then again, I don't want to deport tens of millions of illegal immigrants either, so whatthefuckdoiknow?

That line gets so much grief, especially in a lot of SBS reviews that refer back to it. It's always been one of my favorites -- I think those reviewers did only a superficial lyrical analysis and just pass it off as pretentious. The imagery always reminds me of American's stereotypical pension for excess (like what causes the hangover) -- I love how the end he still "assasins down the avenue" even though he's dixie-cup drinkin. So yeah, YHF would be my #2 hangover album.

What Wilco album are you listening to currently?

"the show"..............hmmmm, I'm going to guess you were in attendance Saturday night? -
It doesn't, but I know what you mean -- I definitely go low volume for ALTWYS. I think its the tempo of the album that I find soothing. I can take some ripping guitars hungover, but not the tempo of Can't Stand It or Nothinsever...., Shot in the Arm, etc. By Candyfloss, I'd be 'in your afternoon, and I've been puking' Though I normally love the aforementioned ST material.

the first thing I need is another live album -- Residency Live. A dvd would also not suck.

It's an exercise in futility for me to pick my favorite Wilco album (all I know is its not SBS or AM). However, yesterday I was napping hungover and went to throw on an album. It wasn't even a question for me: Ghost is my go-to-hungover-album. The mood of the album is absolutely perfect for a lazy Sunday and it got me wondering -- anyone else have a favorite hungover Wilco album? Cheers

YHF demos and both Mermaids -
I am also sick and I blame all of you I am decompressing by going on a Wilco-listening hiatus for a month or so. Diving my virgin ears into Arcade Fire should help.

Hey Cryp -- we're in full agreement
-
That's hillarious -- I hope when I have kids they're that cool

For me its gotta be (paraphrasing): "this is way better than rehearsing for free"

For those who went to every show in the residency?
ChooChooCharlie replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
Ah, isn't Roses great. At Jeff's Vic show in January he dedicated it to my wife (he was dedicating songs to everyone who requested one with Sue before the show). I think its even better with Jeff solo, but Roses and Mountain Bed are two of the most beautiful songs I've heard of any artist. -
A bunch of bands have done residencies before (Dead, Dylan, Smashing Pumpkins, etc.) but I don't know if any of them have ever attempted to play their entire catalog like Wilco though.
-
I think it was mostly (though of course not completely) selfless considering they could have charged a lot more than $35 and still sold out a MUCH larger Chicago venue than the Riv for 5 nights. The intimacy of The Riv made it really special. Clearly finances were a minor consideration and I couldn't respect them more for that.

Yeah, this last week really made me appreciate what it must be like to be in a band. Gearing up for a few of the same songs every night, the physical toll a rock show puts on your body (plus the freezing hours waiting in line every day), and changing your life around to accommodate the shows. -
But Did They Really Play Every Song?
ChooChooCharlie replied to handfulofwheel's topic in After The Show
Absolute agreement -- that would have been so epic. Pretty sure thats what Dylan would've done just to piss off the Less Than haters . As much as I love Dreamer, it seemed a bit anticlimactic for the situation since they had already played it. But I loved every night and am just getting picky now, so please don't beat me up. although not required, that did surprise me. -

Agreed. I would, but don't need to. Boy did I spend a lot of money this past week -- tickets were only the beginning. I'm now sick and exhausted. Would I change anything? Definitely not -- one of the best weeks of my life.
