  1. I love cap city and disagree that it is a joke tune unless you consider the tunes by the artists that influenced it (beach boys, beatles, van dyke parks, randy newman) are joke tunes too. I think this is very accomplished take on a certain type of song. Not arguing on your opinion of liking it or not, that's your opinion and is valid as any other. Also, i think it gives the record a nice change of pace.
  2. Meh. Seriously, it's a song that on paper, i feel like i should love but it doesn't do much for me. I like it fine enough when i hear it live but i never go out of my to hear it.
  3. Wilco loves you baby. Weird emotions here. First off, took a break from the whole love last night and put on Collapse Into Now last night for 1st time in months and still love it as much as i did when it came out. Got me thinking about their history, the 5 post Bill records and what they were going to do next. Since the CIN came out, ive been of the opinion that it was their best post bill album (and stands next many of the bill era ones) and I still feel that way. Lots of sentiments around that they should have split in 97 but i disagree. IMO, of the 5 records, 3 are great, 1 is ok and
  4. Yeah, my buddy turned me onto drop box. I asked on Friday for him to rip it for me and spent 7 hours saturday waiting before i got an email to check my drop box and there it was, simple as that. Good system and good friend.....and good rip, I think it sounds great. I posted many pages back after my first listen that i liked it but wasn't ready jump to conclusions but after 6 or 7 listens I'm ready to jump, this record is a monster and belongs with the Bennett era records. I like everything this band has done but have have felt that nothing compares to BT, ST and YHF in songwriting quality
  5. That may be the best moment in the floyd cannon. Don't mistake my opinion above for a dislike of animals, I really like it, just don't think it's as good as the the other great Floyd record. One warning about remasters: without hijacking this thread as this deserves it's own topic, and there may be one if I remember right, there's this plague if you will of old records, every time they get remastered, get remastered louder and louder destroying the dynamic range. Go to YouTube and search "loudness wars" for complete explanation. Theres a great video that explains why this is done. Long
  6. Just got through first listen. I can rarely make extreme statements, good or bad, on a record after one listen and that is the case with TWL as well but i will say that i have a feeing i am going to really love this thing 10 listens from now ( if not sooner.) Not one song where it like, ugh, this sucks and more than half the thing i really liked right away. This is really what i was expecting out of this line up with WTA but didn't get. I remember the first couple wta listens, expecting something great and wondering why it wasnt there. Not this time. Agree with all the points made pr
  7. This is pretty well known but WYWH was originally going to be Shine on on 1 side and Raving and Drooling (Sheep) and Gotta Be Crazy (Dogs) on the other. The concerts following dark side in 74-75 had a 1st set of those 3 songs, usually r and d, gotta be crazy and shine on, second set of dark side and an encore of echoes. Pretty cool that a band could do a first set of all unknown material. Anyway, when they got to recording wywh the disconnected nature of the sessions gave Roger the idea split shine on in half and to write the three songs that they put in the middle to reflect the state the
  8. Yeah, ive read the priore book. I find it funny that he is still given credabilty given that all his theories prior to bwps were that smile was going to be half instrumental. It always seemed obvious to me that the reason half of what we had was instrumental because either the vox werent finished or the bootleggers didnt have them. To that point, im still holding out hope that this release will have full 66-67 vox on worms and child but I think thats a long shot.
  9. 67-73 is actually the BB period i listen to most. The albums are flawed but there are some incredible tunes there, maybe some of the most under appreciated rock records ever. I would agree with your assessment of mr. Loves effect on smile and their career. I would love to visit the parallel universe where smile came out in Jan 67 and how pepper would have been viewed. I always thought that in its time, smile would have been appreciated for what it was and pepper would not have been viewed as ground breaking but im not as sure now. I mean PS did come out in its time and wasn't appreciated
  10. Funny, i saying this exact same thing to a friend yesterday except the chances of him eating crow are none. This might be up there with the biggest loads of crap ever written. Cant wait to hear how he was the supportive voice but brians demons just didn't allow him to finish. This is going to be good.
  11. Yeah, thats what.i thought, it just makes me sad watching all those vids from 89 and seeing how engaged he was and how clearly he was having fun and then to see how fast he slipped, just ashame.
  12. I saw that YouTube channel the other day, good stuff. I'll check that 94 show out. I have been looking at some of the 94-95 era vids on YouTube and it's kind of amazing to me that they just kept the bus going. I understand they felt obligation to everyone, office staff, fans etc to keep it going but how it was fun with Garcia in that condition is beyond me, it looked like he was about die (which he was i guess.) Glad i was at least able to see him in good shape. Kind of morbid question but does anyone know when he got back on the shit? Guess I'm curious because from what I've read, the
  13. Wish i saw them more, embarrassed to say i only saw them twice, 9/9/88 and 10/19/89. Tickets were always such a pain in the ass to get and i got heavy into alternative and kinda left that stuff alone for 10 years. If i liked them then the way i like them now, i probably would have ended up on tour. Makes me pissed i missed those 90 shows. I agree with the other post above about gems from 91, i love what Hornsby brought to the sound, makes me wish Brent had a grand piano instead of that electric thing. I love Brent but some of his songs, to me, are downright awful. Just a little light
  14. http://www.amazon.com/Fooled-Lifehouse-Quadrophenia-Genuine-Jawbone/dp/1906002355/ref=pd_ecc_rvi_cart_2 Wont get fooled again, the who from life house to quadrophenia by Richie Unterberger Do you have track lists for those unreleased albums. I thought I've seen them mentioned elsewhere
  15. I think ive said it before but 87-91 is my fav dead period. What you loose in jerry being off from time to time, you more than make up for in a fuller sound imo. They're like freight train. I get why people may not like that but for me, nothing better. I hope spring 90 is next after this e 72 box although with a few exceptions, there are matrixes/ultramixes out there for most of that tour that'd be hard to top.
  16. I think I may have to cancel my order and get one of those. Btw, I checked out thesmiley board and there was a thread about what is now the best umreleased album. Alot of talk about lifehouse which pointed me towards a real comprehensive book on the who from to 73. Cannot wait to readit, love tje lifehouse period.
  17. Ive been on fall '89 kick lately, got 10/23 going, the show that opens with cali earthquake and the matrix I have of this show is sweet. Never been a huge let it grow fan but this version is really good.
  18. Yeah, saw that. Never did a pre order before, do you know if they charge your card right away or when it ships? My 3rd BB box as well. Pretty funny, i have 3 sinatra boxes, will be 3 BB's and 4 or 5 more of other artists.
  19. The price of thia thing is like stock futures, I may have been the last in at $146. Crazy
  20. Saving $40 would've been nice but I'd have paid $1000 + for this thing 20 years ago, shit 7 years ago. Can't wait.
  21. Thanks Aman, thought I could count on you to update the thread when it became official. This thing looks sweet, so glad the original 12 page booklet is included. Gonna be a good fall with TWL and this. Edit TRACK LISTING FOR BOX SET! Disc: 1 1. Our Prayer 2. Gee 3. Heroes And Villains 4. Do You Like Worms (Roll Plymouth Rock) 5. I'm In Great Shape 6. I Wanna Be Around / Workshop 14. Vega-Ta
  22. Is the Pit GA Floor? If so, got 3 myself.
  23. Not sure I have a ton of interest in seeing them, I think they kind of douched Jon. It's one thing to replace a key member when they are gone or they decide to leave, it's another to do it because they are sick and you want to tour, just my opinion. I would be shocked if this thing is even half listenable but I'll give it a shot.
  24. I was huge yes fan in the 80's but was pissed I missed the glory years in the 70's. 90125 tour was the second show I ever saw. Now, the only 3 records I would think to listen to are going for the one, drama and 90125. Not that the troika of yes album, fragile and ctte aren't great but I just wore them out and have little.interest. I have seen video of this jonless lineup and thought it was kind of a joke but being a drama fan, this record with horn producing and geoff downes in the band has my interest up a little. Would've been cool if they they totally replicated the drama lineup and ha
  25. Yeah, it's sappy, no doubt about it. Wouldn't usually be my thing but I dig it for some reason.
