Why are you laughing at me? or with me? I knew it (don't get into any Neil Young arguements today) Damn it!
-
No, No, No. If we can't argue about this then we will be arguing about politics or something. At least I'd rather argue about something I believe in!

I saw the Lemonheads and Ben Lee open for Matchbox 20 and that was cool. Hey, I actually can stand Matchbox 20. Now that my credibility is shot.

Yeah everything since Rust Never Sleeps is completly hit or miss, mostly miss. Ragged Glory (Ok but lazy and redundant) Harvest Moon (Strong songs but a little MOR) Sleeps With Angels (I likee I likee alot) LOVE THAT RECORD Silver & Gold (easily underrated, some good songs but also starting to lose it "buffalo springfield again" for example) Greendale (I don't get it, sorry) Praire Wind (overrated MOR, songs don't hold up) Living With War (I politely ignored this) Chrome Dreams II (just put out the box set please) Why did I just post this, because I'm a crazy Neil Young fan who ans

SHOCKING! I can't believe I'm reading this stuff on the Wilco board. What would we all do without everything Neil did from the first Buffalo Springfield album at least to Rust Never Sleeps? First I have to deal with my best friend hating Neil Young and whining everytime I listen to him, but from you guys. I expected more. Unless we are talking about his last couple records, which I could honestly take or leave.

110% agree Patrick F is sure ringer for Jeff Tweedy Now how about the guy who played Ivan Drakoff? in Rocky IV for Nels Cline -
I had a similar dream, where I had taken family to see Wilco and it was awful, they were out of control and acting drugged out. I told my family the exact same thing "they are not usually like this". Wierd. Speaking of dreams, kind of, after the earthquake last Fri am everyone I talked to that was awaken by the shaking said their first thought after the realization that this was an earthquake was that they were convinced it was Saturday morning. Wierd. Wierd I can't spell weird!

I just wanted to get ol' dad involved here also. My dad has always been mostly ambivalent about Jeff Tweedy, but to give him credit he made Anodyne interesting to me. I was 17 when I bought Anodyne and I remember thinking this sounds a little too country or something, and my dad came in my room over hearing and said that is not bad (actually sitting on the bed and listening for a while). I think what he meant was that is not nearly as noisy as Dinosaur JR. Anyway, he loved "No Sense In Lovin" and would always make me uncomfortable when he sang the line "i can't stand it when you get....so..

I thought it was cute when Wilco was on SNL, my mom told me she was going to try to plan her period of insomnia to be up to see Wilco. I don't know if she was successfull and wonder what the hell she would of thought about it.

Pat would be a right fielder in a bad hollywood movie with his fluffy hair sticking out under his cap a la Freddy Prince Freddy Prince Jr. that is. sorry Freddy Prince Sr.?

John- Someone who would be fun as hell to hang out with Mike- Someone I would NEVER hang out with Nels- Someone I would think was a eastern european immigrant (is he?) Not that that is bad Pat- My cooler more attractive friend Glenn- Too pretty to be friends with Jeff- The annoying neighborhood kid that wouldn't take no for an answer I THINK I MISSED THE POINT OF THIS THREAD..........SORRY!

The first album (The Green Hour) is ok, very poppy and smooth, but some of the lyrics are a little cringe worthy ex. "I need a social conscious woman". Overall a few standout tracks but has never blown me away by any means. BTW, I was so excited when John & Laurie came out, only to be slightly let down on that too. Who knows, maybe I should approach them different. Maybe it is me?

Ok if this thread should be elsewhere, sorry. I have the first Autumn Defense record and was always underwhelmed (probably should give it another try), but I love John S and want to give a second chance. What songs from Circles and the newest self titled album should I sample or download?

Just a thought here, and I'm sure this has already been echoed before, but Wilco should be the poster children of not just fighting the music industry (YHF) but how to succeed and prosper when all else is crumbling. Is it just me or are they gaining in popularity, touring success and scope, financial success, all of that (continuing to make great records) while everyone else complains of the failing industry. It is like they or Tony M had this master plan of screw album sales, royalites and lets just tour our butts off and give music for free so more people will know of our music and come to

Most of "In A Future Age" I actually like the song, but I always felt like it tried too hard, which is what I love about Tweedy's lyrics, they always seem effortless. This song has that broader scope thing of i'm the artist and I can see into the future and tell you all how it is going to be. Maybe I missed the point.

Yeah, I wasn't being sensitive, I figured that this whole Wilco Only Mermaid thread would cause a little of the who's a bigger ass stuff, but at least for me it was soley musical related, even though any musician with politics up front tends to get under my skin. I do appreciate how wilco, at least on their albums hides their politics well, even though we all have a good idea of their politics but that is another thread of which I have no interest, since I like to focus on music to get away from alot of that.

Speaking of ACL, are there any plans for New West records to put on any Wilco in the live in Austin series. I mean Wilco has been on 3 times right? Where is the Wilco?

Just to clarify from my original post, it is not that Billy Bragg the person wears on me, it is more the sonic aspect of things. See I have always LOVED Tweedy's voice, from day one, even when it wasn't fined tuned, esp on AM and Mermaid AVE he sounds even better like with a bad cold or something. So I'm digging it and loving it and then Billy Braggs voice pops in, and I like the tune (cause it is largely Wilco) but the voice just wears on me. That is why I wanted a straight Wilco Mermaid Ave for some of the time. Not that I had to clarify that, but that is ultimately what I mean.

I'm going to do this, but I will admit there are some Billy Bragg songs that I don't mind off of these two records. "Way over Yonder in the Minor Key" always reminds me of my brother in law when he was 9 years old and he loved trying to sing real low like Billy. I also must admit that "My Flying Saucer" is a great Buddy Holly type thing that I always enjoyed. Overall though, I'm going for it, thanks for the ideas and support in my cause.

Well don't get me wrong, it is not like i'm going to throw away the originals, or never listen to the originals again, it is just that I would like to experience the Wilco songs without interruptions some times. Pressing the skip button makes me feel like an ass, I guess that is the vinyl lover in me, but I hate skipping songs. hate it. And it is not just a Wilco/Tweedy thing, I don't have this issue with minus 5 or golden smog, it is just some times Billy B urkes me. In the way a itchy rash would. Like jock itch.

Have any of you guys made a mix for yourself from Mermaid Ave 1 & 2 with Wilco only contributions? I was listening to the first Mermaid this week and it is not that I hate the Billy B stuff, some is not bad, but overall he wears on me. So I thought screw this, lets just make one album of mermaid ave with all Wilco. If you have done this what was your track listing order? any ideas? OR is the sacrilige (sp) of some kind?

He also scared me during a Golden Smog show in Athens GA during the Down By the Old Mainstream tour while singing "She Don't Have To See You", in his lounge singer fashion he came up on me in the front row and grabbed the ball cap off my head. The scary part was I was trying to get out of a relationship (off at college still dating high school girlfriend) YIKES! at the time and had begun seeing a new gal and I took this as a sign that the all knowing one knew.

I was rereading Learning How To Die (#342 How Do You Know You Are Obsessed With Wilco) and was on the part about the crazy/dysfunctional Being There Tour where Jeff was "challenging" the fans on a nightly basis. BTW if you caught any shows on this tour it came off as stunningly compelling in my mind, not as negative as Greg Kot portrays it. Anyhoo, I recall the Bham show on 11/3/96 on this tour where Tweedy seemed angry/stoned who knows?, but it was borderline train wreck/the most exciting thing ever. To start off, during the opener Sunken Treasure and the noise distortion Tweedy trips over
