  1. Song is supposed to be humorous, no?
  2. Another rambling post from today. Ryan trying to "explain' himself: "Friends and Fans (and Internet Lurking Music News Hacks) I am very sorry if my blog post concerning my need to walk away for however long from cardinals( and from doing music related to the music i have made during my solo career and during my very long and substantially frustrating time at my former label ) was alarming or shocking or seemed off base. it was not my intention to be dramatic. I feel like i am entitled to my feelings and that i certainly do not deserve to be further ridiculed for my deteriorating inner ear
  3. Tell me "Outlaw Pete" won't be amazing live. Not sure why some are dissing that one. Whether you love or hate the disc, you have to admit it's the strangest album he's made. That's gotta account for something in Bruce-world. It's 100x more interesting than "Magic" was/is.
  4. My that was harsh. And quite silly. I'm a fan so I'll read what he writes and maybe even find it interesting. I think Bono writes well. Ever read his induction of Bob Marley in the RHOF?? Classic. If you don't want to read his NYT articles, turn the page. Seesh!
  5. LOVE "Surprise, Surprise". Classic radio-friendly pop song. How can you not like that song?? Folks, he ain't pulling out a "Backstreets" at this point. Embrace that and enjoy the music.....
  6. While A Live One is a nice collection of songs, it certainly doesn't feel like a normal Phish set. That's always been my problem with it.
  7. I was actually thinking from the vocal side of things. And also how the songs have very deceptive melodies.
  8. Sort of like Pitchfork gushing over anything related to Animal Collective?
  9. OK, so as someone who is first listening to AB from this release I have to say I'm digging it a lot. Knowing nothing about the guy except that he played a bunch of shows with Wilco, I'm picking up a big Radiohead-vibe on this disc. Am I wrong on that? It's making me want to seek out his older material. What should I start with? Does all his stuff sound similar or is each album different ala-Wilco? Thanks.
  10. Wow, it appears that 2-28-03 was a great show according to those choices. That's a weird compilation. Why not just grab those specific shows? Phish shows were all about the ebb and flow imo.
  11. I think teleprompters and music stands are pretty commonplace these days many major artists (Springsteen & Dylan come to mind). I know Sting had one during The Police reunion. It's really a shame because there is no way a singer is singing their best when they're reading the words. Singing the lyrics to something you know by heart is a totally different thing than reading them.
  12. See this great thread for some serious contendars. http://www.alt-country.org/Thread.aspx?ID=2659236 My vote is "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band or that one hit that Third Eye Blind had (Doot doot doot, doot doot doot doot.....).
  13. Bruces last 3 discs are anything but bland (Big Swing Face, Camp Meeting, and the Ricky Scaggs one). Just sayin'.
  14. Well, since all his solos sound the same maybe it isn't so hard. Sorry, not a Warren fan.
  15. Charles Mingus (forgot what a genius he was) Early-Genesis (Thanks to the Boxset) George Harrison Solo Funkadelic
  16. Jeez, sorry to bore you with some of my favorites of the year. Forgive me sir.....carry on with your rantings.
  17. So if you were putting this on the CD, what track would you make it? Anyone else that anal?
  18. Does Dylan's "Tell Tale Signs"count because if it does. I have no idea why it isn't on any of these lists. Everything else pales by comparison. And why no love for Jackson Browne, Bob Mould, or Lindsey Buckingham this year? I know they aren't cool with the Pitchfork indie-hipster croud but they all made fantastic discs this year. Why do all these end-of-the-year lists always have bands no one will listen to in a year? It's like an exercise in "coolness" or something.
  19. I saw them live on ACL and goofy is that last thing I would call them. In fact, they seemed so damn serious it turned me off to ever listening to them again. I'm not a big fan of epic history yarns with my rock and roll....
  20. All I've ever owned is the Legacy Box Set, Untitled on scratchy old vinyl, and Sweetheart of the Rodeo. I always that that was all I needed. Was I wrong?? I do love The Byrds.
  21. Seems really dumb by itself but I believe this is part of some rock-opera or something....
  22. Get his new "The Fireman" disc. Best thing he's put out since "Abbey Road"!
  23. Yeah, maybe it isn't good for background noise. I look at this show like the old days, when people had no TV and used to just sit around the radio and listen. Try actually listening to it instead of having it on in the background.....you will like it. I crank it in the car and have no issues. I just tell the kids they can't talk when Bob is speaking :-)
  24. Bobby sings Standing on the Moon and Foolish Heart? Not sure I'd be able to handle those without Jerry.
