A collection of unreleased stuff from the short lived Stephen Stills band Manassas is out! This thing is a wonderful surprise and you can listen to it for one week here: http://www.spinner.com/new-releases#/37 You're welcome!

Lost my virginity to that album. To much information? Sorry. Needless to say it has always held a special place in my heart. Is that a good idea for a thread?

Yeah, I do not understand the price point of new vinyl these days. I just bought the double Plant/Krauss "Rising Sand" for $15.99, a older Yo La Tengo for $17.00, but The Drive-By Truckers last one was $29.99 and the Wilco's are a lot. I guess they realize vinyl is a fringe thing that people who love it will pay for,

Oh I love Summerteeth. I'm just wondering why it would sound so much better since it was never mastered for vinyl in the first place. It was made for a digital format right from the start. So did they actually go back and remaster it for this release is my question?
-
So since the original wasn't mixed for vinyl in the first place, does this mean this was actually remixed for vinyl? It must have been if all you guys are saying it sounds so different.
-
Can anyone comment on the actual sound quality of this on vinyl? I'm just wondering if Summerteeth is even a good vinyl record since the whole thing has sort of a "processed" sound to it. Or was that just the cd?

The Wiggles introduced my kids to the joy of music, so there's certainly nothing wrong with that.

Wilco sounds more like The Grateful Dead than any band playing today

Well call me an MOR sap then. It's my favorite track on the disc.

Since I never heard some of these in mono, it is fun to check them out as a curiosity. After the thrill has died, I'd bet I go for the stereo's most often....
-
Thank you and just.....wow. This project is so damn confusing.
-
Well, did he actually change the panning and stuff in the 80's or just clean them up? I was referring more to the "effects" of the stereo in post-Rubber Soul stuff. Also, what is the deal with the '65 stereo mixes included on the mono Help and Rubber Soul? Are these somehow deemed better than the '80's mixes? If so, why weren't they used on all of the stereo remasters?
-
I just cranked up "Helter Skelter" in mono. All the hairs on my arms are still standing up. Wow. The weird thing with the mono vs. stereo is that some tracks sound better in mono, and some just don't. I think Magical Mystery Tour in mono sounds simply dull. I realize the arguments, but they really did do a good job mixing these in stereo back in the day, whether the and was involved or not. The stereo effects on many songs simply add an whole other dimention to the tracks.
-
I've heard Joy and I totally disagree with you. I think the songwriting is very strong and it may be their most tuneful album well.....ever. Is it you don't hear the "songs" or just don't like them? Compared to Round Room, this is a Phish masterpiece.
-
Wow that sucks for those who ordered the box, unless they dropped that price too...
-
Aren't these drastically different?

While The Beatles may have recorded in Mono (up 'til "Yellow Sub"), I find their stereo releases to be quite inventive and exciting to the point where I really miss it when I'm listening to the mono versions. I'd have to think Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Hendrix engineeres obviously took their cues from The Beatles stereo versions.
-
I just (for the first time) listened to all of "Sgt Pepper" in mono (Dr Ebberts rip). I found it.....interesting. I liked some of it more then my well worn stereo version (clearer vocals, heavier drums, punchier bass) but I really missed the stereo sound on much of it. I also didn't think it was THAT different as many claim. It really felt like listening in black and white as opposed to listening in color. Admittedly, I have heard the stereo version for most of my life so I find it difficult to really "hear" it another way.
-
Does anyone think Best Buy will have it cheaper the week it comes out or can they not really go lower then the pre-order price?
-
Do those stores even carry any box sets? I don't think so.
-
Now Amazon is sold out of the Stereo Box. Insane....

I can't tell if this whole box set thing if fun or a major pain in the ass, but what is the sence that the Mono Box is truly "out of stock" as it seems at this point. The have to make more, right?
-
Why not on purpose? Where does it say these were screw ups? If we can hear them, I'm sure the band and engineer's did too and didn't fix them. Why wouldn't they have been fixed in the '87 cd releases?
