  1. I'm in the UK so I come out a winner this time....Grandaddy always got alot of love over here.
  2. My vinyl copy has arrived this morning. Its a beautiful looking thing with a really cool little lyric booklet. Its mornings like this that reminds me why vinyl is the best and that music should still be best appreciated in a physical format rather than as a file on a computer. Gonna brew up some fresh coffee and spin the black circle.
  3. Yeah, I'm not sure if it's still on there. Its a great little album called 'Music meant to accompany the art of Ron Cameron' or something like that. Not as good as 'Yours Truly' which is my favourite album of the past few years.
  4. I preferred Get Well Soon. I kinda agree with the second point but I do feel that the good title really helps.
  5. I love Circuital too. Why is it getting so much stick? Anyway, along with Circuital, my favs so far are: Decemberists: King is Dead; Bon Iver: Bon Iver (and Beth/Rest is great); and that's about it really. The Decemberists record is very strong.
  6. http://www.controlgroupco.com/store/products.php?cat=42&PHPSESSID=e9a3d3d2f5d4e73848f22bfc063d294f Sophtware Slump, Sumday and Western Freeway all to be re-released on vinyl in July. You can get all three for $45 which is a steal. Amazon is also taking pre-orders for the deluxe Sophtware Slump which has a load of extras on disc two: 1. He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's the Pilot 2. Our Dying Brains 3. L.F.O. 4. Wives Of Farmers 5. Chartsengrafs 6. N. Blender 7. Wonder Why In L.A. 8. Air Conditioners in the Woods 9. Moe Bandy Mountaineers 10. First Movement / Message Sen
  7. That would be cool. There's also a couple of 'Life' which sound good solo acoustic; We Neve Dance and When Your Lonely Heart Breaks.
  8. Wow, thats at alot of music for one guy to put out in one go. Waits and Claypool have worked together in the past if I recall.
  9. There is a exception to the rule. His name is Tom Waits. His seventies album were great. His eighties albums were, if anything, even better.
  10. I'm a bit concerned. I've just listed my favourite 20 or so albums of all time....and none of them make me HAPPY. They are mostly sober affairs with little room for joy. I need some of this Happyness music you are talking about!! On my list the only one that nearly scrapes in is Ragged Glory by Neil Young. Actually, there is some 'Happy-Jazz' on my i-pod. I have been listening to the Preservation Hall Jazz Band record that came out recently with Tom Waits, Jim James etc on. Thats HAPPY.
  11. Hawks and Doves is a strange record. I've never given side two a chance so might go back and re-visit that. I do like some of those 80s records though. Trans is great, as is This Note's for You. There are even a couple of really great songs on Landing on Water (I love Touch the Night, even if it is a bit of a re-tread of Hurricane) but the production ruins them.
  12. Another shout out for 'World Gone Wrong'. A Great Record. My favourite is the live album: 'Hard Rain'. It is a really raw and punkish record and has some great versions of the 'Blood on the Tracks' songs. Re: 'Infidels', and I'm sure this has been mentioned many times before, but you should make your own alternative version of Infidels by taking the great songs Bob decided to leave off that album (Blind Willie, Foot of Pride etc) and remove the one or two clunkers.
  13. Its far from my favourite period but, accepting the cornyness, I am enjoying the new one. Soul of a Woman is poor but, as you said, Grey Riders and Amber Jean are great. My favourite though is the version of Flying on the Ground. That is a great song. I'm still to work out what we've got to look forward to if: PS00: Sugar Mountain 1968) PS01: Riverboat (1969) PS02: Filmore (1970) PS03: Massey Hall (1971) PS04: ?? PS05: ?? PS06: ?? PS07: ?? PS08: ?? PS09: A Treasure (1985) PS10: ?? PS11: ?? PS12: Dreamin' Man (1992) Any takers?
  14. I have to agree with this. Spot on. Two great, seperate, listening experiences. The only problem is disc two contains 'Kingpin' which is my least favourite Wilco song ever.
  15. It is the kind of record that is going to get reviews from the extreme ends of the spectrum, by reviewers trying to show they know what they are talking about. I love the album but it does seem a bit marmite. mmmm marmite
  16. Yeah, I like that. Mark Olson looked really unhappy in that video for some reason.
  17. Loved watching that. Interesting comments about Ben Keith and not playing those songs anymore. He also mentioned the 20 minute version of Down by the River which some have talked about in this thread. He says it was deliberately left of 'A Treasure' and should appear in the third volume of the Archives...whenever that may be. A good watch.
  18. Looks like we'll be getting a super deluxe re-issue of the Grandaddy classic 'The Sophtware Slump. I loved that record way back so it will be nice to hear the bonus material. Jason Lytle is also holed-up making a follow up to his great debut solo record 'yours truly, the commuter'.
  19. Been listening to the new one - A Treasure. Really great stuff. 'Flying on the Ground' is a top top tune. Expensive vinyl but very high quality and worth the bucks.
  20. Old Tom is teasing us. He has just posted a lyric from his forthcoming album on his website............ http://www.tomwaits.com/news/ Very exciting. A new Tom Waits album is always a reason to smile.
  21. I agree. The song 'Gone Fishing' has some particularly nice guitar work on it. I also like Jeff Beck's contribution on 'Amused to Death'.
  22. http://www.rollingstone.com/videos/new-and-hot/exclusive-the-jayhawks-preview-new-lp-mockingbird-time-hits-stores-this-fall-20110606 Rolling Stone has a cool little preview video.
  23. Has anyone listened to the Ca Ira music that is included in this set? I have a soft spot for 'Pro's and Cons'. 'Amused to Death' is great also. If that album had been released under the Pink Floyd moniker it would have sold a lot more copies.
  24. Seriously looking forward to this album. That line up has some magic to it which I hope they can rediscover.
  25. The Bon Iver album is great. My favourite so far is the new Decemberists record. Hit me like a ton of bricks for some reason.
