http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120918&content_id=38609650&vkey=news_tor&c_id=tor Toronto SS Yunel Escobar suspended three games for having a homophobic slur written on his eye black patches. Escobar got himself run out of Atlanta for attitude, has had his fellow Jays' infielders complaining all season about him being a ball hog (failing to feed the 2B the ball to turn DP's so he can do it himself, running in front of them to receive grounders, and reaching over them to catch easy pop-ups, which is dangerous and little league), and now this. At what point does one stop

http://www.mercurynews.com/entertainment/ci_21535659/survivor-jeff-kent-puts-his-game-face I've never watched Survivor, but in addition to having Blair from The Facts of Life, this season also features former MVP Jeff Kent. For me, this is still must-not-see-tv.

Presidential Race (Respector Edition)
The High Heat replied to lost highway's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
A person can have character and still be an A-Hole when he needs to be. I don't think Romney has any character and will probably be an A-Hole at all the wrong times. Jimmy Carter is a man of character, but did not have a good run as President. Obama gets compared to Carter a lot, but I do not agree with the comparison. Obama can be cutthroat and shrewd. It's too bad he can't get the Repubs to sit down and work with him. They'd probably like him more than they think they would. -
It's a good thing that thing didn't go hide up in "the cave," if you know what I'm saying.

I read about that, but I just couldn't bring myself to watch the video. I guess he's "lucky" since he's still alive.

How come the Republicans didn't have a former President speak at their convention? Aren't they proud of their living Presidents? -

Obama helped me buy my first home with the housing tax credit (the second one), but my corporate employer only offers yearly 1% raises, which they usually drag their feet in rewarding it. My benefits are diminishing, evaporating or getting expensive. Two years ago my annual bonus got cut in half, then eliminated last year. All the while, my employer is creating middle management travelling jobs in a difficult economic era. Somebody, somewhere is making money off this mess, and I would guess they're supporting the candidate who will keep the cash cow alive and fat. Last time I voted I did it fo -

I don't wish to see the Panda in a speedo, but great play! That was a more acrobatic, yet far less important, version of the Bob Boone-Pete Rose catch in the 1980 World Series.

http://www.jambands.com/news/2012/08/27/bob-dylan-s-tempest-store/ To boost sales of Tempest, Columbia Records will open a temporary Dylan store in NYC beginning on Monday, September 10th. Similar stores are planned for L.A., London and Berlin.

Apparently the Dodgers and Red Sox are awaiting on Selig's approval. The prospects in this deal may have to be PTBL's in the offseason because they'd have to clear waivers right now, which would be unlikely. In the meantime the Dodgers will have to do a little roster shuffling to accommodate their new additions. It's being reported that Boston will only have to send $12M to L.A. I would have figured it would have been about four times that much, but I guess this is a different kind of bailout program. Now if the Phillies can luck out and find a sucker for Ryan Howard's remaing four years/$10

Ned Colletti has got to be one of the worst shoppers in the world.

He gets the quickest jumps I've ever seen, basically full speed at first step after his initial jump. It's kind of like putting your car in drive and then hitting 60 mph a fraction of a second later. It's insane! On the other hand, he's gotten tossed over 30 times, so Hamilton needs a little more discipline in his risk-taking choices and strike zone judgement. And he for damn sure ain't no shortstop. 30 errors!

I miss the speed game - a lot. I think Hamilton, like Coleman, will end up somewhere between Henderson and Washington. I don't think old Herb even know which end of the bat was the business side. Great card, Calvino! I had to abandon an enormous stash of cards from my childhood due to a long-distance move when I was 11 in 1982. When I think of all those cards I had from teams like the Big Red Machine, et al, I cringe.

And now for some good news! Ladies & gentlemen, the future of speed, Billy Hamilton! http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120821&content_id=37103464&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb Hamilton surpasses Vince Coleman as the record holder for steals in a minor league season. He has 147 swipes and still has a couple of weeks left to pad his stats. So far Hamilton has been playing SS, but not very well. Look for this kid to play CF in AAA next year and even be called up to play regularly in the second half as well. He may even get the September callup to Cincinnati this season. He hi
