  1. This is amazing. As long as tickets stay available for Richmond long enough Friday morning, this is wonderful.
  2. John Mayer is far from awful. I don't listen to his records, and his songs are a bit bland, but he can play guitar damn well when isn't singing soft pop songs. And his acoustic cover of Kid A is great.
  3. Man, these things are great. I'd never listened to PJ Harvey before, but my Josh Homme crush made me buy this, and I enjoy her songs on here very much.
  4. I'd agree with Nirvana and PJ too. I'm no PJ fan, but they're too big to not make it in. And Nirvana deserves every ounce of acclaim they get. As long as there's no lame "tribute" to Nirvana, I'm 100% OK with them going in. Modern rock is littered with people poorly ripping off Kurt's vocals, they don't need to show someone doing it to his actual songs. I know Dave and Krist have enough integrity, and respect for Kurt, to keep this from happening, but it wouldn't shock me if Courtney Love did something of the like. Anyway, yay Soundgarden reunion. Been listening to Badmotorfinger and Superun
  5. Now that you mention it, it'll be interesting when the grunge scene reaches hall of fame years. Nirvana has to be a guaranteed inductee, but what about the other big Seattle bands?
  6. That can only mean one thing. Wilco and Radiohead are becoming one band. Their new album, Kid Foxtrot, will render all other music obsolete.
  7. My top five would probably go as follows: Dar Days/Light Years - Super Furry Animals Dark Night Of The Soul - Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse Them Crooked Vultures Further Complications - Jarvis Cocker Journal For Plague Lovers - Manic Street Preachers W(TA), Lotusflower, Phrazes for the Young, Together Through Life and Blakroc would probably round out the top ten. But honestly, those may have been the only new albums I listened to this year. I got really into jazz this year, so that was a lot of my new discoveries.
  8. I'd forgotten that story. One of my favorite Onion bits.
  9. I don't know about you all, but I think this is great news. These guys rocked pretty damn hard, and I'd love to get a chance to see them. Cornell's voice is still in great form, and this could do a lot to make up for his questionable solo decisions. Anyone?
  10. I love R. Crumb, so that cover is great. But Blues For Dracula is a complete turd, as far as album art goes.
  11. I saw the Roots at the 9:30 Club last night. Needless to say there's a new number one show of the year for me. Seriously, those guys might be the best live band out there, bar none. Great records, but you can hate them all and still love them in concert. Number two would be Them Crooked Vultures at 9:30. Seeing Dave Grohl drum in a club. 'Nuff said. Number three would be Super Furry Animals (and Real Estate, who I had no idea was so big in the indie community these days) at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. I took a bus 8 hours each way for this, and it was worth it. I know their ATP set got b
  12. Yeah...not great. Boring vocals and drums, which made it hard to listen to, for me. Valiant attempt, though. IATTBYH is hardly a wedding standard.
  13. Seeing these guys next week. This record is outstanding.
  14. The Roots, The Roots, The Roots. If you don't enjoy them on record, see them live. Easily the best hip hop band around, and one of the best live bands around, period.
  15. Spoon do not ever do wrong. So yes, I'm psyched.
  16. Might have to check it out. I tend to not like female vocals too much, but her voice on the Neon Neon album is great. And Gruff Rhys has never led me wrong with music. Is there a single out I can listen to?
  17. It's a sort of inside joke with Jim, I think. How is that? I loved her voice on Neon Neon's album, and she's signed to Gruff Rhys' record label, so there has to be some wonderful talent there. Worth checking out her album? Also, the album won't come out 'till 2010, but the Roots' "How I Got Over" is such an incredible song that I want to throw it out there anyway.
  18. I can't say I agree, but not a bad choice.
  19. I've only been to the National once (Of Montreal) but it sounded great, and really seemed like a wonderful venue. And it's general admission, always a plus.
  20. Ideally, I would choose the National for a full band show. But tickets would then be harder to get. But seeing them in that place would be sweet. But Richmond should definitely get some Wilco show.
  21. I can try, but my fellow students are overwhelmingly awful people. Richmond drivers, from my experience, are very patient (at least, compared to DC). So students take advantage of that. I will likely never bring a car to Richmond, just because driving around campus seems to suck. And walking is great. And the Richmond bus system is quite reliable. Still, the Landmark is a good place for Wilco. That or a two night stand at the National.
  22. The Landmark would be a great place for Wilco. I saw Monsters of Folk there a few weeks ago, and it sounded great. And I live a block away. So there's that.
