She is an insanely fast knitter! In between working on that one, she whipped out cable-knit wool scarves (in a lovely charcoal) for myself and my three sisters, and also for me, a very nice but pretty much non-functional scarf out of a green and pink ribbony stuff. The pattern called for 6 or 7 needles, but she said since she knits pretty tight, she used 8s. And it was supposed to be about 12-14 inches across (I didn't measure, but I'd say that's about right; and knowing her, she measured!). The pattern also said it should reach from the floor, loop around the neck and back down as far as

One of my sisters is vehemently opposed to time travel as a plot device. Just plain too confusing. OK, we're totally off the track now. Someone knit a preemie hat, quick!

Between what's already come in through PayPal, and people who've PM'd me and told me what they're going to mail in, we're up to $840. VC kicks some major ass, y'all. Let's shoot for $1000 in the first 24 hours! OK, so this isn't like a PBS pledge drive. One of the reasons we're leaving this open for (at least) a month is because I know some people won't have the cash right away, will want to wait for their next paycheck or their tax return or whatever. But it's just great to be off to such an impressive start.

I don't know if you're talking about the more "adult" brand of fan fiction , but he's written several (as-yet unpublished) books which feature an ancient Irish time-traveler, among other Highlander-esque situations. He's a total sci-fi/fantasy geek.

My mom is universally recognized as being too sweet. She's the best. Mike, you should just come live in my parents' house. My dad has the coolest claymore. It's something like the one on the left, here: We bought it for him at a Ren Faire about 10 years ago. Trish says that if you're ever looking for a great way to meet guys, just walk through the Ren Faire carrying a claymore. Easy pickins! Although, you'd have to be interested in the type of guy who's impressed by a girl carrying a claymore...

Yes, of course you do.

I like to note that this thread hasn't even been open 6 hours (and most of the west coast isn't even awake yet, but I've got a plane to catch ), and we've already got $215! Nice work, you guys!

Happy heart-shaped birthday, Heidi!

final total: $2000.00 Shortly after Natalie's death, Kate (Reni) contacted a few of us via PM and e-mail, to discuss making a donation from the VC community in memory of Nat. After some discussion, we decided that a donation to Planned Parenthood in Austin, where Natalie volunteered, would be an appropriate remembrance and would also honor her family's wishes. We would like to send the donations in one packet, to the extent possible, to represent that this gift comes from all of us here who will miss Natalie so terribly. She played a big part in making VC a true community, so we feel t

I should have done it before, sorry. I usually do try to PM people if I move their threads, but I'm not totally consistent about that.

Bedbug gogo also moved this thread. Maybe it was the wrong thing to do, I don't know. If one of the other moderators wants to move this back, fine with me. It just seemed to me that the Wilco/residency tie-in for this thread was more of a stretch that it was for the other threads. The other threads were people coming to Chicago for those shows, looking for information on things to do/places to stay while there. Whereas this thread is soliciting people who are going to the shows, and could just as easily have been posted here in TTL as "anyone who lives in Chicago, come volunteer for Obam

Although now that froggie says it, I do love Airline to Heaven as a show-opener.

They should begin at the beginning: I Must Be High.

I don't think that's terribly creepy. But I still don't think it's appropriate to post the address here on the board. Welcome to the merry world of posting!

I knew that's what you figured, from what you first posted. It really didn't need to be repeated. I like rollerskates, but I don't get rollerblades.

You're right. I neither get nor like jokes.

Dude. And you really wonder why people here think you're an idiot?

Nels' pancake breakfast isn't physical pancakes - they're a state of mind. When you're ready to eat pancakes, and I mean truly ready, you won't have to pour the syrup...you'll already be eating them.

Nels is hosting a pancake breakfast there on Sunday. Didn't you get the invitation with your tickets?

OK, now I'm pissed! I'm not a man! Kidding. Yeah, don't take it as bashing. Some questions just get asked on a semi-regular basis, and that's one that's sort of got a standard set of replies you're going to get. Nobody meant it personally. See you there.

Not a fan of Glenn's hair. Usually I love long hair on boys, but that's just not doing it for me. The red-carpet pic is great, though!

And I know for a fact that at least one Chicago-area firefighter will be at these shows, so ask around, maybe you two can meet up and talk shop.

I agree with this. While I would love to see him win, the support he is getting in the primaries is already giving me a respect for the American people that I'm sorry I don't feel more often. I'm sorry to say that I believed a black man wouldn't have a chance, even in the primaries, and I couldn't be more pleased to see that I was wrong.
