It's not a terribly big deal to start a thread like this. But as I mentioned earlier, it's more an issue of trying to keep the board tidy, and not start multiple threads about the same thing. It's not like the thread for this show is terribly huge, to the point where it would be at difficult to find that information. And as Analogman points out, if/when a show is available, there's usually a thread about that in the trading section. So that's already two places where this information can be found, or will eventually be able to be found.

I don't remember exactly, although I know I still have the magazine somewhere. His talk, which I believe used portions of the same story, was about how something can be "true", but that doesn't necessarily mean that it actually happened. I still have snippets of it in my head, I can picture exactly what I was picturing 20 years ago, as he was describing scenes from his childhood, and from Vietnam. I thought he was amazing. I heard him speak again maybe 10 years ago, and I had one of those totally lame moments while waiting in line to have him sign my book, where I decided that I was reall

And you felt strongly enough about his two cents, that you needed to add your two cents? Let's not make this a big thing. In general, yes, if there's already a thread on a show, you'll usually find info in there about whether or not the show was taped, and if not, that's a good place to ask the question. It does keep the board tidier, and sometimes moderators will step in and merge a thread that's directly related to another thread. Just another suggestion: the more specific you can be in a thread title, the easier that makes it for people to decide whether or not they want to open the

I've got to start checking VC on the weekends (unfortunately, no one pays me to be on here on a Sunday). So to make up for being a day late, here's that tall cake you asked for, Donna: Happy birthday to you both, and hope to see you again soon!

Yeah, this was in the SF Chronicle yesterday morning. Not exactly ripped from the headlines of conspiracytheories-r-us.com. Anyway... I remember when Skylab was falling, my dad took us all out to the top of a hill in the middle of the night, one night when it was supposed to be passing over us and we were supposed to be able to see it. I don't remember if we saw it or not though, all I remember is being really cold out there. And as far as I can recall, it didn't land on us.

This should totally be in Now Watching, but: yes! So far you've missed Persuasion (no big loss, rent the movie with Ciaran Hinds instead), Northanger Abbey (a decent adaptation, but my least favorite JA), and last night was Mansfield Park, which I haven't seen yet, it's sitting on my Tivo, but from the previews, I don't know how I feel about the casting. They're re-running them too (Wednesday nights here), so check with your local station. Emma is going to be the one from a few years ago, with Kate Beckinsale, and P&P is the Colin Firth multi-night extravaganza.

Thank very much. Yeah, I'm hoping that he just needed some time away, and he'll show up again eventually.

I love The Things They Carried. He wrote a piece that was in GQ in the mid-80s, I only bought it because it was the comedy issue, and I'm a comedy junkie. I have no idea how that piece ended up in the "comedy issue" of anything, because it was heartbreaking. But on the basis of that, I heard him speak at a symposium at my college on Vietnam, and went on to read absolutely everything he's every written. I haven't liked his recent stuff as much, but The Things They Carried (the GQ thing was an excerpt) and Going After Cacciato are brilliant. Thank you! I've been meaning to take another

Hi folks, My friend Natalie's brother has been missing for a couple of weeks. Natalie is one of the sweetest people I know (and she looks shockingly like her mum, now that I've seen her mum's picture), and she and her brother lost their father this past November. Now her brother, Andrew, has been out of touch with his family and friends for a while, and they're worried. Anyone who wants to take a look at this news story and video and keep an eye out for him, it would be much appreciated. http://www.kent-online.co.uk/news/default....rticle_id=37763 http://www.yourkenttv.co.uk/commun

Well, I do consider myself to be something of a whore with a heart of gold, so I think I know what I'm talking about. Solace's original post announcing the creation of the Random Forum is still pinned in TTL. I thought there was something in there about those posts not counting toward total post counts, but I don't see it now.

It's not exactly about the inspiration so much as the meaning, but when that album first came out, Bridget started a thread about that song, that had some really great stuff in it: Less Than You Think thread, from the archives.

I love The Beltmann.

There used to be an on-going series of threads in TTL, that were "random thought threads". For just BSing, posting whatever came into your head, etc.; every 1000 posts or so, the old one would be closed, and someone would start a new one. At some point, the admins (there were just a few at the time, there's a much larger moderating staff now) felt that the RTT was sort of seeping out of the single thread, and things were going a bit nuts all over TTL. So, they created Ummm..., which is pretty much just a big patch of random nonsense. Anyone heading down there should be aware that all bets

This sounds lovely to me. I'll be there for the Noise Pop show! -
Isn't it standard for musictoday to send out tickets just a couple of weeks before the show? I'm not going to start worrying for at least another week.

WTF? Sign me up for Quirkyalone Day, thank you very much.

I love you, Judy.

Whatever, CNN. He wasn't a gay cowboy, he was a bi shepherd. Yeah, they're a special group of people, all right. This is sad. He was amazing in Brokeback Mountain. And of course, it's especially sad for his daughter.

He does! I never noticed that before, but now that you say it, definitely. He's a cutie... much cuter than Ryan Reynolds, in fact.
