That was about when I was trying to get t-shirts for me & the date. Neumos is kind of a maze as there is more than one room. To get to the merch from the balcony you actually had to exit the club on the main floor & go back in. I didn't hear it but it was probably a minute to 90 seconds in length. My back had hit the excruciating level by then, too. So sue me~!:P

i was gonna be legit surprised if they didn't play that one.

Guided by Voices were excellent last night albeit a bit short by their standards. "Only" 2.5 hours, haha. Robert Pollard is still in pretty good shape for his age & alcohol intake. & he's been on a hot streak with the records. Lots of the new material & a good spread of "hits". There were some missing like "Game of Pricks" & "Don't Stop Now" but the show was about perfect length. Sometimes GBV can run out of steam. again alcohol intake involved, haha.

  3. my all-time fave Nick Cave moment was this song; a friend of mine who was right next to me recorded it... I held up Nick by his skinny little calf as he was standing precariously on the backs of the seats.

Nick Cave is officially cool old guy now. Got a notice from the theater regarding the show Thursday. It said no opening act, Nick will go on promptly at 8. I'll be home by 11, nice! haha

i get to see him next Tuesday.

Nice work, Tim. Finally had a chance to read, and I thought you did a good job capturing the general atmosphere of the event. As expected, some excellent photos all around. That one of Mavis and Jeff from the Beach stage is great! And thanks for the new nickname for Mr. Bull Black Nova; hope you don't mind if I use that moving forward. :chickawow

Just one note: Cut Your Hair was played at the all-request/all-covers set at Solid Sound in 2013, not 2015.

Blasphemy, surely! Funny enough, I was wondering where the mariachi were this year. I didn't see them at all. They weren't on stage for the opening toast as they were at the first SBS, I don't believe. Were they just roaming around randomly? Or perhaps playing at one of the heritage shows the day before or after the festival?

thx Paul, sometimes my brain cells misfire even for events i was at; i'll make the correction.

i saw the mariachi band when i was leaving the mezcal tasting from behind where John and Nels were sitting. I was hustling off for a dinner reservation so i don't know if/when/where they played. as you noted, certainly not at the opening toast. (btw, what was that opening ceremony? I couldn't really tell)

To those who are excited about this line up.  Please make some recommendations that we can listen to.  We have been listening through many of the bands, but nothing is really standing out.

Eleventh Dream Day - if the jagged tone of Neil's Old Black excites you, i think you would like this band. track to check out:

i don't know Cut Worms all that well but if you like breezy 70s country rock you will likely find it appealing

Iceage started out pretty punkrock (first gig i saw, the singer intentionally hit me in the head w/ his guitar neck) but they have morphed into a pretty good facsimile of The Saints (Aussie band)...

i can only embed 4 vids so here's the last... Mike Watt is one an american hero, one of the nicest and most genuine people i've had the pleasure to meet. I haven't kept up w/ his solo work to the extent i know his work w/ Minutemen and fIREHOSE but live he's always a treat.

for jazz stuff, Marshall Allen is the last survivor of the legendary Sun Ra Arkestra and it's essential stuff. Check out Space Is The Place, a great film from Sun Ra. And Angel Bat Dawid takes the jazz mantle from the 60s and plays a free, joyous, communal performance. i saw her at Woodsist and her energy and positive outlook was contagious.

    hope that helps!

That mariachi band looks the business. I love a mariachi band. Probably would have enjoyed that more than Wilco these days.

no word on if they played "Jesús, Etc" or not.
