Yeah, the early Nick Lowe solo albums go for a fortune on cd. I'd say buy Silver Pistol by Brinsley Schwarz first, anyway. Hopefully they'll reissue his solo work soon enough.

What do you think? NP.

Yeah, it was a good show. If you want to hear some Nick Lowe then get hold of Silver Pistol by Brinsley Swcharz - that'd be the first place I'd direct people to hear him; then move onto Jesus Of Cool or Labour Of Lust by Nick Lowe. If you want to hear some stuff then let me know.

i've got the may issue (it's got pink floyd on the front cover). it's definately the june one (which has paul mccartney on the front). they release them at the start of the month in the uk, but are always a month in advance in terms of the issue date.

it'll be june, actually.

I assume he's talking about Rollin' And Tumblin', Nettie Moore and The Levee's Gonna Break - which contain phrases and lyrics which are firmly in the public domain, and thus from other songs. There's a case to be made that Dylan is just ripping these songs off, but the same case can be made that he ripped off Nottamun Town for Masters Of War, and ... well most of his early work contains melodies from folk/blues songs so the list could go on forever. But, that's cos he is a folk/blues musician and that is what they do - it's how the forms were developed and it's how they will stay alive and rel

Here is When I Go Away from Diamond Jubilation, for anyone interested in hearing what it sounds like.
-
Yeah, it is pretty good. I'll upload a song for anyone that wants to hear it. Give me a few minutes, though.
-
Yeah, definately agree. The difference really, though, is that the guitars on Love & Theft are melodic and are a deeply part structural of the music, whereas on Modern Times they act as solo instruments. Have you heard that Dixie Hummingbirds album I mentioned in the last post. It's really good stuff - Garth Hudson, Levon Helm, Larry Campbell, George Recile, Tony Garnier and Dr John are the musicians, with the The Dixie Hummingbirds providing the vocals. And Larry produces. The music is all religious in content, but if you're not religious, and can put that aside, it's great music.
-
Campbell & Sexton didn't play on Time Out Of Mind, but I agree that they were a major part of what made his band good recently. If you've ever heard Larry's production and arrangements on Diamond Jubiliation by The Dixie Hummingbirds, you'll know that he was a big part in making Love & Theft so good.

Icky Thump - New White Stripes album
Synthesizer Patel replied to Welsh Rich's topic in Someone Else's Song
I just think they're naff. I normally believe him to be quite a good lyricist alot of the time, but this sounds like something (as someone pointed out on another forum) Rik from The Young Ones would have written. Plus it's an over-simplification. Plus it's just trite. -

I think it's a processed bagpipe, made to sound like a guitar, which really makes no sense at all. I've heard this a few more times now, and I don't like it much. It sounds to me like someone working out some guitar parts that they are going to put into a real song, but have yet to get round to doing so - it's just a bit too stop/start and also show-offy for me. The lyrics are pretty shocking too: "Well Americans - what nothing better to do? Why don't you kick yourselves out - you're an immigrant too. Who's using who? What should we do? Well you can't be a pimp and a prostitute too!" Saying th -

hmmm, i didn't think too much of it on first listen. i'm not too keen on his stomps much though, and this is definately a big fat blues stomp. -
I'd have thought you'd have been a fan of Ram.
-
I thought you were doing a pretty fine job of finding that place yourself.

Yeah, but when there is little else to talk about with regard to Mick Jagger. All you're left with is his age, bodily appearance, and dress-sense, so anything people say about him is going to be of that nature - or, "I remember when they were good" kind of thing, which again reflects the age issue even though it speaks of their music.
-
I don't think people tend to be that ageist when it comes to older people making music if it's good. It's when it's no good (which I'd say about The Rolling Stones, as I would about Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart etc... too), then people just take the piss out of their age as it's the easiest thing to draw a target on. Really if they were younger and making the same standard of music then they probably wouldn't be talked about at all.
-
Who's been telling you it's ok? And what are they doing?
-
I think his standards got flipped upside down when he wasn't looking, and now all the blood is rushing to their head - making him talk all crazy about things. I wonder if he still likes the 30 seconds of the song he heard on best buy, which he said he liked the melody and lyrics to, even though he's now found out he doesn't like the rest of the song?
-
No apology necessary. There are definately far to many Rich's from the UK around here. It was only an email interview. But, my brother saw the band play in Bristol (it's in the South West of England) about a month before and only about 40 people were there. He said he didn't think they were anywhere near as good as they are on their recorded material, and I was rather surprised by this myself - having never seen them live I cannot comment, but he is normally very honest about this sort of thing. So I can only assume that the poor turn out in the audience must have put a downer on things, esp

Where have you been able to hear this? Or is it available on iTunes or something?

I definately was not the mainman behind it. I thought you were, or at the very least it was equal. I need to get a simpler screen name on here, clearly.
