  1. I couldn't agree more. The atmosphere is do damn wholesome. Very communal. I think that's what draws me to the MIAC, and d3 in general. You Hamline guys are too smart to be good at football, though your team is good this year. Great Johnnie game to catch will be v. St. Thomas in 2 weeks in Collegeville. That should give you the whole.. "experience".
  2. I got the rare opportunity to attend a game at my alma mater, St. John's (MN), last Saturday. Homecoming game, which was nice. Usually the game becomes secondary but not this time. 16 unanswered points in the final 10 minutes to win 16-14. Clinched on the longest field goal in school history with 2 seconds left. Just a minute and change after that same kicker pushed a would-be game-tying extra point wide right. Sweet, sweet redemption. Mark Lewendowski has the call:
  3. No doubt, man! I live in Cincy now, but I was in the cities for the Royals series. Didn't catch a game in person but got to watch them all on local tv, which was a rare treat. I was the only one of my family/friends who was optimistic after the Tigers series. I was telling anyone who would listen that the Twins were gonna do it: force a 1-game and win that to make the playoffs. Now, I was just playing the optimist role because nobody else was, I didn't really believe my own drivel. But then it started happening and it became really exciting and I rode that thing to death! Whatever, anyway, I'm
  4. Indeed! Yesterday was a great day for baseball. I really think the Twins are gonna do it again, win the AlCentral. I'll be disappointed if they don't but it has been another great season regardless. I'm wildly excited for the game tonight!
  5. I think they call that committing "Harry Caray". Well, that and drinking a fifth and leering at scantily clad minors.
  6. He meant "part deux"... Tim Couch, part deux.
  7. HA, thats good stuff! I, too, am happy to see the Twins on their way out of the dome.
  8. The Giants last year completely fell apart after week 12 or 14 or whenever. Most fans assumed they were 1-win in the playoffs at best, so it wasn't exactly a big shock. Hence there was little-no fallout.
  9. Vikings fan, probably obvious. I think Urlacher is a HoF'er without question and I think he has been underrated, mainly because of the shadow cast by Freaky Ray Lewis. It's like nobody wants to talk about anybody else in a LB debate. And thats just sad.
  10. "World Record Players on a Tour of Japan" ...might be a better name. Kinda funny, no? Or you could do: "World Record Players (on a Tour of Japan)" OR "World Record Player (on a Tour of Japan)" Of course, I would recommend none of these realistically.... Maybe you should just go with: "Waitin' for a Postcard" eh, thats more an album name. Im done now.
  11. espns in-game box score for Twins home games always lists the wind as "-1". Can wind exist as a negative? Vacuum effect? Physics majors? Anyone?
  12. Is there a thread for the presidents speech today? I just read it. Its great, exactly what any non-radical would expect.
  13. Terribly harsh punishment. Due directly to a sports culture of bloviating overreaction that espn helped start and most all-too willingly accept. It's a damn, damn shame.
  14. It's like everyone's just looking for a reason to make more of a spectacle of Favre's every action. I guarantee this was not the first chop block of the pre-season, but did we hear about any of the others?
  15. I won't! (Well, I don't actually believe it's in the cards this year, so I should say "I wouldn't".)
  16. Im reading What is the What by Dave Eggers. Very good, halfway through.
  17. Saw that. Huge risk, high reward potential. Giving up 2 very promising minor leaguers, if espn has it right. Big contract for Kazmir, but big talent there... Interesting. I very grudgingly like the Angels, and respect the hell out of them.
  18. That was one of the first things I heard and didn't dig it. A few years on and Wilco is second to none for me, and I certainly enjoy KT now. I think you just gotta know what speaks best to your audience. Which, of course, could be KT.
  19. Nice! I think the optimal mix is different per the audience. A friend of mine has committed to giving Wilco a shot. I sent him AGiB and a mix, chronologically ordered by release: Box Full of Letters Outtasite (Outta mind) Red Eyed & Blue Sunken Treasure Nothingsever... A Shot in the Arm She's a Jar Via Chicago Kamera Jesus, etc. (no ghost) You Are my Face Side With the Seeds Wilco (the song) One Wing (shoulda been Bull Black, alas) You Never Know
  20. I noticed that and laughed, mostly because I was looking for it after it went A.M.-Being There and I was laughing at myself... 2 other things my crazy eyes/ears noticed: the crowd noise during "live" songs was fake and one of the songs, with a straight-on shot of Jeff singing in concert was actually the studio version dubbed over a live shot!
  21. The loss of Birk is what I'm most worried about going into this year. He was/is phenomenal. Pick 6 teams in each conference for the playoffs. Should probably revisit in a couple weeks, but here's mine: NFC Minnesota Chicago New York Philadelphia Arizona Atlanta AFC New England Miami Pittsburgh Tennessee Houston San Diego
  22. I feel like alot of people are... Maybe not, idk. I haven't really done any homework on it, I just think people think they'll be better than they are. The Vikes lost nobody very important and added EJ Henderson (who I think will be one of the best MLB in the nfl, starting this year (he was last year before he got hurt)), Percey Harvin (hopefully our version of Devin Hester; even a very poor man's version would be an upgrade for any team in the league), Madieu Williams (hurt most of last year) and, of course, Favre (much better than other options we've had since Culpepper). And they went
  23. I think the bears are the most overrated team going into this season. Vikes all the way!
