Interview with Laurie and Cary

Is that your boyfriend? How in the hell can she be 20? Happy Birthday.
-
Well, even Larry says Pop was rushed and unfinished or some such thing. I see what your saying though. Maybe it's just one of those deals - like REM - when a band moves away from the sound/lyrics you love, some people get upset. I am one of those people most likely.
-
I think there was some mention of a dvd coming out this year - I forget where I read that though. Must have been in with the news about the box set.
-
Good point.
-
I think I am the other way around on that statement also - I thin Bono spends all his time on political matters these days - and very little time on lyrics. Maybe things will be different on this new one. I wish they would get back to writing more political type songs, actually. I loathe Pop/Zooropa - but I do rather like that song Please.
-
Maybe I will make that. Neko was just there - I think.
-
I'd wait for a proper taper recorded show.
-
We've had this talk before - I think my early Tom Petty and U2 cds have advertisements for other cds inside them/generic album cover art on the back and spine. That shows how old they are. I have Boy---->The Joshua Tree on vinyl.

Those songs are out there to snag. Personally, I am not that big of a Syd fan and not really into PF all that much to begin with. If I listen to them - it has to be Meddle/DSOTM/Live At Pompeii type stuff.
-
I hope those who got in have a good show - I had been waiting to see him since 1997 - and I was not disappointed. Although - I wish his hand had not been fouled up.

Just like Bruce, Tom Petty and REM - the early U2 cds - Boy/October/War - sound like shit and really need to be re-mastered. Of course, I own them all so it would mean buying them again. 1980 Boy 1981 October 1983 War 1983 Under a Blood Red Sky 1984 The Unforgettable Fire 1985 Wide Awake in America [EP] 1987 The Joshua Tree 1988 Rattle and Hum 1991 Achtung Baby 1993 Zooropa 1995 Original Soundtracks No. 1 [Passengers] 1997 Pop 2000 All That You Can't Leave Behind 2004 How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb

exactly Speaking of live covers - I would like to hear him cover this song - I jumped in the river and what did I see? Black-eyed angels swam with me A moon full of stars and astral cars All the things I used to see All my lovers were there with me All my past and futures And we all went to heaven in a little row boat There was nothing to fear and nothing to doubt I jumped into the river Black-eyed angels swam with me A moon full of stars and astral cars And all the things I used to see All my lovers were there with me All my past and futures And we all went to heaven in a little row b

Well - that was the last Whiskeytown album - and if I recall correctly, that was not the first mix, but rather the one that came out. I use to hate that album - but it's alright. I guess I have always viewed Almost Blue as Elvis Costello's cover album of country songs. Almost Blue, the song, is one of my very favorite EC songs though. another alt.country precursor- cowpunk

I have lightning If the stars dry out to guide me I have soft clay To knit my bones astride What a miracle they say Dark clouds gather Velvet holes Gaping wide oh And they pour it down And they sing to me Of wonders Unseen Like clouds that rise From the sea, oh And I'm sorry I'm so sorry That I missed the point Of this pageantry But I'm grateful That you love me

Stuff older than a day? I am not sure.

For me, it's the three before that - The Unforgettable Fire/Joshua Tree/Rattle and Hum.

I meant those dudes were into punk as well as country. So they mixed them together - some more than others.

Supposedly Paris Hilton is out of jail already!

Yes - I got the name wrong. He actually talks about meeting The Clash in that HARP magazine Joe Strummer issue from a few years back. I have never been to that festival or Wheeling very many times for that matter. There are, however, some amazing Victorian mansions one can check out there.

It went from the House of Whores to the House of Horrors. - still one of the greatest BTM quotes.

It is my understanding that term Alt.country came about as a way to separate Uncle Tupelo and the like from the country music of the day - such as The Judds, Garth Brooks, etc. As LB said, no one was calling it alt.country in the early 70s - it was called country rock. Which I think is different from so-called alt. country - I mean, I don't see The Eagles or New Riders of The Purple Sage having anything in common with Uncle Tupelo. The other thing one finds in alt.country, is a punk background, which I don't think The Flatlanders ever had - as they pre-date the punk era of course. Although, B
